You seem to have a good grasp of the way the connection between the camera and the network functions, I wonder if you can answer a question for me regarding a Canon 80D? Whenever I connect the camera to the PC to download images using the WiFi from the camera it always seems to go via the wireless router, then into the EOS app on the PC that controls the download and remote shooting process. Normally on my PC I never use WiFi as everything is hooked up using Ethernet. So if you can picture the way the connection works (as far as I can tell) Camera TO Wifi (Router)- TO Ethernet- TO PC, do you know is it possible to let the Ethernet just work as it normally does and deal with the internet and day to day throughput, but then to make the Camera connect independently using ONLY the WiFi on the PC (my PC has its own independent Wifi connection which is never used) as a sort of separate network? I am thinking WiFi Direct, but cannot seem to find enough info about this type of connection. It would be great to link the two without the need for the EOS program, just a direct link bypassing the router and ethernet completely. Thanks!
@cameralabs5 жыл бұрын
As you know, the PC needs to be on the same network as the camera to talk to it. I think if both the PC and the camera are connected to the same Wifi access point, then it should work AND you should be able to connect to the internet / wider network with the PC. But if the PC is on wired ethernet only, it may not be making a connection with the camera. It's a pain.

*Can the RAW uncropped, wider-than-24mm image be rendered with software, since 24mm can be too tight for vlogging?* Is there a way to remove lens corrections with software, so the wider, somewhat fisheye image that the lens actually captures could be filmed instead of the tighter 24mm crop? *DxO and other software do this for stills.* Does any software do this for video? This could result in a much more pleasant field of view for vlogging.
@cameralabs5 жыл бұрын
Hmm, interesting question but sadly there's no way to turn off lens corrections for video or to record in a raw format prior to lens corrections being applied. So no, sorry!
@jefffenske19585 жыл бұрын
@@cameralabs Thanks for clarifying. That makes sense. I was hoping I was onto something. Bummer. We need some wider focal length compact cameras then, or a compression that allows the image to be uncropped for video. They could call it "Vlogging Mode." I imagine RAW files would be too big without some compression.

@@cameralabs Well, at least we got mic inputs. Thanks for repeatedly mentioning that in your reviews! I'm going to try vlogging with an old Olympus PL5 and the 9mm body cap lens, using the SEMA mic adapter, which blocks the screen that tilts up. Hopefully the fast shutter speed needed is doable.

Tamron 17-28 is going to fail like sigma 20-35F2. People either need wider than 17mm ultra wide or longer than 28mm for a normal fov. The sigma was very good optically and reasonably priced, however the use case is still too niche to grasp a sizeable market share.

Great video, thank you. I even enjoyed the guest appearance of the seagull. I shoot Sony. I have a front dial that is not calibrated that I can allocate it to alot of different things. I have a rear dial that is not calibrated that I can allocate to alot of different things. I have Custom Bittoms that I can allocate to many different things. Then I have an Exposure Compensation dial that is calibrated and is also dedicated to exposure compensation. I shoot 99% manual, so I have a large dial taking-up a lot of top-plate collateral and I never use it. Why can't this be customisable so if people want to to be exposure compensation they can set it as such. And, for those of us who don't, we can set it to ISO or White Balance.

Yes, I'm surprised (to a point) that the RX100 VII can still demand US$1,200, but I think that's because it's probably the best-in-category. It might sell for US$999 in a more competitive environment.

I think vloggers all over the world were excited that Canon & Sony finally added an external mic jack to their G7x & RX100 cameras. But then were disappointed with the horrible focus of the Canon & the f2.8 lens & lack of an ND filter of the Sony. Hopefully both Canon & Sony will listen to their customers again and add these features in the next update. I know they want people to pay up for their mirrorless FF cameras...but continuing to cripple their high end point & shoot cameras only upset their loyal bases who are looking for the perfect travel vlogging camera.

Actually they have tried that before with strangely little success. I think since everyone always has a phone with them anyway, it's wise to leave the connectivity to that and just try as much as possible to make the link to the camera as easy as possible - Bluetooth is really helping with that, I'd say we're almost there.

I can garantie that the iPhone camera in my pocket didn't get any better in the last 5 years, so no need to get so much better for my pocket cameras. I don't understand why a mic input should be such a great feature. How many people will use that feature? 2% of the buyers maybe?
