The new automatic correction tool for perspective is a game changer for artists that need a time saving tool for initial layout. It turns the camera Lucida app from a useful tool into a must have. Brilliant. Having viewed the video I’m off to find my OSMO mirror. Thank you for the brilliant update. Ray Jones Cheshire England

What's holding your tablet up and how would someone keep it out of the way when drawing the portrait? I've been tracing (outlining) my portraits for about a year or so and was excited to see there might be an easier and faster way to produce my work.

What happens if you need to go back to the drawing after having to interrupt the session? Does everything line up perfectly again so that you can continue just as before?

The app has a feature for saving and restoring drawing sessions. It uses computer vision to line things up automagically for you!

Purchased a copy today but if I have two iPads, do I need to purchase a version for each one? I tend to use the one more for taking photos but the other, an older version, is the one by my drawing table that I use for references.
@evilAshTheDog3 жыл бұрын
Nope! Once you've bought it, you and your entire family can install it on all your devices without paying again. Checkout Apple's family sharing to add members of your family. To install on a different device, just make sure you are logged into the App Store with the same email address you used when you first bought it.

Where do I purchase the 13.0 app please And does it work on an apple iPhone

I’m unable to get the front camera to mirror image onto my paper. I just see the image over my face. I have the 11.0 and I have an iPad Pro. It’s four years old. Would that have anything to do with my problem?
@evilAshTheDog3 жыл бұрын
To use the front camera, we usually use a small mirror attached to the top of your iPad to reflect your drawing surface into the camera. Are you using a mirror? That’s what the little red thing is in the second half of the video.

@@evilAshTheDog I was wondering the same thing. I just downloaded your app and watched the intro video! I tried it on mine and couldn’t get it to work. I was watching the video in the app but saw the YouTYube logo and clicked on it hoping I would find my answers in the comments section… sure did! I had no clue what the red thing was and that you need a mirror, that would be helpful to know in an introduction video!

@@weerifcho you're welcome. By the way, the sliders were removed because they were the number one cause of support emails, confusion, etc. A few users understood how to use them. The AUTO! feature has been in the works for years and uses a different technology than the sliders, so to integrate the two into a single user interface has been, well, difficult. But, when users speak, I really try to listen!

I guess this video confuses me. In the beginning you simply aim the front facing camera of the iPad at the paper. Later, you begin to use an Osmo device, which I’m not really familiar with. Are the instructions at that point referencing the Osmo, or the app? Also, does use of this app require use of the Osmo device?
@CameraLucidaApp2 жыл бұрын
Judy, the app doesn't require the use of a mirror, but by doing so, you can have your device placed in a more comfortable and natural position. The confusion is probably because the app can be used in a variety of ways. You can use whichever camera you choose. You can now (with 14.0) use a second device as the hosted camera. There is a lot of flexibility with the app - which is great because people like to use it in creative ways. It does, however make creating a single video that shows it all a bit difficult. I apologize if this one was confusing! This video is still valid, but keep in mind that the app is now up to version 14.0 and has a ton more functionality since this video was created.

Thank you for the reply. If I were to pick up a used iPad what would I need in addition to the iPad and you're application I thought I heard something about mirrors devices you attach to the iPad?
@CameraLucidaApp3 жыл бұрын
Ken, in this 11.0 video the first half uses the back camera pointed straight at the drawing surface. In the second half, I use a mirror attached to the top of the iPad that is used to reflect the drawing surface in front of you into the iPad's front camera. There are other ways of using the app as well such as tilted setups with the back camera. So many options! To begin though, you need at least an iPad pointing at your drawing surface like I do in the first half of this video. Which setup you use depends on your preferences, you're willingness to try different setups, etc. As for a used iPad, any iPad with a camera will work - all the way back to the iPad 2 - but if possible try to get one that was made within the past four years.

How do you get the iPad as close to paper as possible so you can see both?
@evilAshTheDog3 жыл бұрын
Hi Suzy5111. The distance your camera is from your paper determines how much of your drawing surface the camera can see and because of that, how large your final drawing can be. You can digitally zoom in if you want to get closer, but I prefer to just move the iPad because of the limited resolution of the cameras. As for seeing both, that usually isn't a problem at all, and for much of the process you're not even looking at your paper. (Which is weird, right?) You are drawing while watching your own hand, paper and reference image on your iPad's screen. Most people will indeed set the app aside after they have done a certain amount of drawing - but that's up to you.

If Im doing a 10x10 canvas, how high do I have to be from the canvas? I know you mentioned it one time but I can't find the video. I bought the ipad stand that you featured in another video but not sure how high and what the formula is for height? Thanks

I just watched a video saying if you want a 10” drawing you have to have your iPad 10” above the drawing surface.

Peter I Have another question. No matter how much I enlarge or shrink my image, it remains the same small size on my drawing paper. I have also clicked on the maximize image and it remains small as hell. What am I doing wrong?
@CameraLucidaApp3 жыл бұрын
Heather, the final size of the drawing is going to be limited by your camera's field of view. Hitting that maximize button is great - but the distance your camera is from the paper is the biggest factor in determining what your camera can see. So, I'm interested in how far your camera is from your paper. But, my guess is that you're zooming in while you're in the drawing mode. When you do that, you're just magnifying your view to get more details. What you want to do is to zoom into your subject and crop your image *before* you hit the draw button. As you do so, the image will fade and you will see it overlaid on your drawing surface. As you pinch to zoom, you'll see how it fills more of your paper. The general rule is that the size of your final drawing's largest dimension will be about equal to the distance your camera is from the paper. This assumes you've zoomed into your subject and filled the screen with it before you start drawing. Also in the version 12.0 video, I do a better job of stressing this, so maybe take a look at that.

Will you have an Android version coming out
@CameraLucidaApp3 жыл бұрын
Ken, sorry, I have no plans on creating an Android version. One of the reasons my app is so fast and works on so many iOS devices (all the way back to iOS 9.3x) is that I make use of very low-level routines that are not available on cross-platform development environments. There are several Android copycat apps out there that you can try, but I'm afraid I can't recommend any of them as I don't own Android devices myself.
