I've been doing ankle technique for 10 years and have almost mastered it!.. ankle technique is the hardest technique which takes time to develop when it comes to double Bass drumming cause it's also all about control. But once you get it it definitely is worth it!

100 percent! Don't even think about playing fast with no control. Glad to hear about your success!

I really like the helpful comment as per bouncing a ball. Provides a nice perspective concerning the technique. Being a heel down player for too many years it is a natural progression to the ankle technique. Getting much more power with the ankle technique. Consider me subscribed!

I just couldnt start learning the ankletechnique with medium spring tension and try to play at like 160-180bpm (Im running Tama Speed cobras) So I just did this: ✅ Set the spring tension to loose ✅ 45 beater angle And then I noticed I could play ankletechnique at 140bpm. Then I just practiced combined 8th notes and 16th notes, and now about 2-3 months later I can play 165-170bpm ankletechnique and Im still running loose spring tension. Im getting progress almost every week. Cameron: What do you think, When should I crank up my spring tension?

Hey man that's great news! Glad to hear you've found success, and figured out what way works the best FOR YOU! The only thing that I'd suggest is to keep with the settings you're already using. Otherwise, it might just throw off your double bass drumming all together. The difference in spring tension and your ability to control the pedals will change if you make adjustments now. Keep your current settings, stick with it, and see where that takes you. Let me know what you think!

Can you still do ankle technique even at slow tempos?

Nice video! I have been working with the ankle technique for almost a year. I'm not there yet. I saw that you lift you entire leg (static) while doing the technique? Static contraction of the hip flexor? I tend to put the entire weight of my legs on the pedals (tip of the foot). And leaning forward. So no static contraction. Is this wrong to do? I have a hard time getting control this way. Should the feet "hover" over the pedals while doing the ankle motion?

great video mate! my question with this technqiue is that, do you need to stick your foot on the pedal constantly since youre kinda like tapping your foot? im wondering if im doing it wrong because as i am tapping the pedal im not able to stick my foot all the time it tends to keep a distance

Try adjusting your spring tension. The pedal should be following your foot.

Really stupid but I just can’t bounce my stronger foot up and down quickly at all. But I can my weaker side really frustrating

Is there a reason that you have your foot half way down the pedal (if you know what I mean). I've noticed that a lot of other drummers do the same, particularly those that use ankle technique. I'm asking because I generally have my toes quite close to the end of the pedal, even using longboards (and my heels don't hang off like yours do). Just wondering if I'm doing something wrong here?
@CameronFleury Жыл бұрын
I'm doing this because I also use the heel toe technique. It allows me to drop my heel for the technique. Basically just a sweet spot that works for me.

Hey Cameron, what settings would you recommend for playing double bass at around 100-120 bpm?
@CameronFleury Жыл бұрын
That's going to depend. Try them out at different tensions to see what works best for you.
@Kianabulhosn Жыл бұрын
If you’re wanting to play 16th notes at that tempo then a looser tension/full leg motion is best.

The importanter question is: Are those pink post it notes or pink tape? 😁 I'm currently using 2 inch painters tape with sharpie.
@CameronFleury Жыл бұрын
It's actually gaffer tape! You can find the stuff on Amazon. Great for cables too as they won't leave any residue.

@@CameronFleury thank you. I'm always into the weird little stuff like that.

What bugs me about your videos: You literally look like you could be the brother of a friend of mine. Seriously. But... he's a guitarist.
