How do you play a triplet bomb blast? In this video I break down the blast beat and explain what each limb is playing at varying tempos. The bomb blast is essentially a combination of blast beat and double bass drumming. When measured in 16th notes a bomb blast consists of 8th notes on the snare played above 16th notes on the kick drum. Most drummers play this beat by leading with the snare, while the traditional blast beat is usually led with the kick. The bomb blast became popular among 1990s death metal bands such as Cannibal Corpse, which is why the bomb blast is sometimes referred to as the “Cannibal” blast.

I'm kinda confused here, basically the snare is on triplets, but the cymbal and bass are quarter notes?

He did that with the cymbal hand just to clarify the sextuplet numbering. In reality the cymbal hand would probably go as fast as the snare hand or whatever accented thing you like. The point is that you are doing this in triplet.

Sounds militaristic. Anytime I hear triplet bomb blasts, I just wanna march to it like a soldier. Which is why I call those blast beats, "marching blast beats".
