Can't you just input something on the front input of the interface and enable direct monitor?
@trylleklovn
@trylleklovn 4 жыл бұрын
Exactly my thought. I've got a similar focusrite scarlett interface to drive my monitors and I've occasionally used the inputs on the front with direct monitor for various synth stuff. I'd think the behringer version would have the same feature.
@camerongray1515
@camerongray1515 4 жыл бұрын
It does allow direct monitor however each input on the interface is a mono input with no pan adjust so if I were to use direct monitor I wouldn't be able to get a stereo output. [EDIT] Looks like it would actually work, see my comment below

@@camerongray1515 should have got a Focusrite Scarlet - they have pan controls on their software interface.

Cameron Gray hmm, I’ve used my 202HD in a stack like this, chaining a couple of interfaces, they still pan left and right as input 1 and 2.

@@mstratforduk Oh interesting, looks like that actually is the case, never thought to try it! community.musictribe.com/t5/Recording/UMC202HD-input-L-R-question/m-p/143343 Suppose that means I didn't absolutely *need* the mixer then for that use case! Still nice to have though for easier level controls than using the interface (interface would have a separate level for each input channel and I'd then have to adjust the PC volume in software to compensate for the lack of physical level control for that as the main out would affect both the PC and the external input) and it's handy to have around as a "tool" which was part of the reason for me purchasing it.

Even simpler with the stereo to mono example just plug them into the stereo input on the mixer and then pan it over to the output you have plugged in

Good to see Behringer are still using the same psu that their budget ranges going back over 15 years used. Ive had one of their 8 channel desktop mixers since 2006, not even a scratchy pot in that time.

The 802 has stereo aux return, so that might be what they are calling the 8th channel.
@AlexKidd4Fun
@AlexKidd4Fun 4 жыл бұрын
Inputs are typically what the number of channels are rated on. But I can say the big bonus in the 802 really is the dedicated control room output as that’s what the headphones would be connected to avoiding the issue you had with both volume knobs being connected on this 502.

I have the units the 202hd and 502usb … I,am trying to use them together and I am not quite understanding your set up. You are plugging the speaker jacks from the 202 into,channel 4/5 does this mean that you can use the 2 xlr ports on the 202 and run them through the mixer?

Are you sure the 2/3 and 4/5 are not affected by the main EQ? The user manual says that the EQ works on all input channels. And as far as I know, EQ and gain does not cover TAPE/2-TRACK. Thnx.

I have the Q1202USB as well as a normal 502 (non usb) and been using them for a few years now. That transformer, be very careful with it, 1 of mine split in half along the seal exposing the transformer. As for the USB interface, its Rubbish. For me I get allot of interference whilst trying to record over it so what I now do is use Main out and plug that into the input on 1 of my sound cards and it has worked wonderful that way. I use the Phones out for the speakers and headphones (I have to swap obviously) but this has worked really well for me over the years. Major downside to the 502 I find is no FX Send to split the audio. So what I mean is for me I output audio from my PC into this and Input it whilst using the Mic, now whist in a call you dont want the system audio bleeding into the call, this is where FX send comes into use, you mute the rest of the channels and have your mic via FX send for the call. But for a cheap Mixer I agree with you this is a great buy allough I would get the non USB one now after my personal experience

Hi there, I have a sub zero SZ-MIX04 and a behringer 802 (Both audio mixers). I need a bit of help as I also have a focusrite solo usb. I am on virtual meetings (Zoom and Microsoft Teams) alot and wanted better sound and wondered how to link this all up or do I need all this equipment?? Confused at the moment. ......I am a beginner and also thinking of recording music - guitar and vocals soon enough as a hobby. Any advice Cameron! Thank you

Hello, thanks for the video review very helpful. I just got mine set up, and I honestly don't understand what's going on to my headphone monitoring. I cannot just hear the output from my headphones without hearing the Speaker Main out. can it be just my mixer? or is this somehow not possible with this mixer? I have some Beyer Dynamics DT 770 Pro 120 ohms, and I also tried it using 3 other headphones. Thanks for your input if possible!

That's the standard behaviour, seems a bit weird at first but I can kinda see what they're going for. The Main Mix control adjusts the overall level of the mix, the Phones control then adjusts the volume of the mix in your headphones to be comfortable to listen to. Doesn't make sense in a scenario like mine (and I imagine yours) with the main out connected to speakers but in a recording setting where the main out is connected to a recorder you'd want to be able to use the headphones to monitor the output level based on the Main Mix control. Definitely annoying when it's being used as more of a "playback" device instead of in a "recording" environment.

Hi, I recently bought the same mixer, but I get a static-like noise even with only the headphone and power supply plugged in. I use a BM-800 which requires phantom power and when I set it up, it only amplifies the noise. Could you help me what I'm doing wrong?

im a newbie on this stuff and i was doing some research, im planning on upgrading my mic setup with this q502usb and mxl 990 mic. im just wondering if the q502usb have the sufficient amount of phantom power for the mic.
@camerongray1515
@camerongray1515 4 жыл бұрын
The Q502 only has 24v phantom power whereas the industry standard voltage for phantom power is 48v. Whether it'll work or not really comes down to how your mic handles it since you'll be running it below the voltage it's designed for. Personally I'd go for the Q802USB instead which is a bit more expensive but has proper 48v phantom power so you'll be less likely to have issues. I'm using this mixer to drive speakers and therefore will likely never use a microphone with it, if I was going to use a microphone, I'd have absolutely gone for the Q802USB for the 48v phantom power.

I've got a reasonable amount of cupboard space but it's nothing crazy. Aside from the vintage computers which I don't really plan on getting more of (and keep stored away under my bed), almost everything I buy is something I actually plan on using in which case I generally don't need to worry about storing it away, for example this mixer will just sit out on my desk. Once I'm finished with something or upgrade to something better, I tend to sell/give away/otherwise dispose of the old one so that I don't end up with it sitting around.

Hey. Nice video. I have a dj controler and I want to buy an audio interface to live stream my dj mixes. Do you think I could use this mixer to send audio to my monitor speakers and to my smartphone? Because my controller has just one output rca.Thanks
@camerongray1515
@camerongray1515 4 жыл бұрын
With the correct cable you could fairly easily connect the headphone output or 2 track output to a phone. You'd need an adapter that splits the 3.5mm jack into separate headphone and microphone ports - a standard 3.5mm cable will end up with you connecting the mixer to the phone's headphone output instead of the microphone input since they share the jack. The only downside with this approach is you'll only get a mono audio signal to the phone since they only have mono microphone inputs. The other option would be to stream from a PC with a webcam rather than a phone - connect the mixer to the PC over USB then use it as the audio input device to the stream.

The Xenyx can't be turned off. It's always on. The power cable is of terrible quality and if you somehow lose or break it, you're screwed because of how hard it is to find a replacement cable. One of the worst purchase I've made.

@camerongray1515
@camerongray1515 3 жыл бұрын
You can use the built in USB as an audio interface although you'd just need to bear in mind that there isn't a level adjust knob for the USB input, just the main mix level and that the sound coming out of the mixer gets routed back into the input so you couldn't use the mixer to output sound to speakers and then capture a different source at the same time without recording what is playing through the speakers. On the other hand, an interface will have independent inputs and outputs so you can play something from the output and capture something different from the inputs.
