Camila Cabello’s past behavior has landed her in hot water after resurfacing, and she’s issued a public apology, buuut some fans aren’t as forgiving.
What’s up guys, it’s Emile Ennis Jr. back here on Clevver News, and Camila’s past has officially come back to haunt her.
We’ve seen this happen before as tweets or past behavior resurface with many celebs, so we’re just gonna take this as yet another learning lesson that what happens on the internet, definitely stays on the internet, and will probably come back to haunt you…
Anyway, Camila’s new album celebrations have died down all thanks to tweets that resurfaced on Wednesday featuring screenshots of Camila’s old Tumblr account where she posted offensive and racist memes and comments.
The posts show the screenshots dating all the way back to 2012 when Camila was a teenager, however, it doesn’t matter how long ago this happened, because, well… they still happened.
The memes and comments contain harsh language including multiple uses of the n-word and racial stereotyping toward the Black community.
Naturally, this circulated the Internet quicker than the plague, and Camila’s team was forced to do some major damage control and take down all of her past Tumblr posts, however, this didn’t stop fans from coming for her.
Camila then responded to the viral tweets, taking to her social media accounts to post a long apology statement to fans.
In the statement, she wrote, “When I was younger, I used language that I’m deeply ashamed of and will regret forever. I was uneducated and ignorant and once I became aware of the history and the weight and the true meaning behind the horrible and hurtful language, I was deeply embarrassed I ever used it.”
Camila went on to add that although she wishes she could, she can’t go back and change what happened in the past, but “once you know better, you do better and that’s all I can do.”
She stated that now that she is 22 and an adult, and that those mistakes don’t represent the person she is, or the person she’s ever been, and that she now uses her platform to speak on injustice and inequality and will continue to do so.
Camila’s closing sentence stated, “I can’t say enough how deeply sorry and ashamed I feel, and I apologize again from the bottom of my heart.”
The apology drew mixed reactions from fans on Twitter, with many criticizing her response, but also many coming to her defense.
A fan tweeted that age does not matter when it comes to knowing what racism means, writing, “People defending her because “she was young”... that’s a dumb excuse i mean i’m 16 and i’m well aware of what racism is.”
But many fans did defend Camila, noting that she was a young teenager and didn’t know better, saying, “She was 12-14 and a lot of people in that age don’t think long enough or hard enough for what it really means.”
A fan slammed that the user’s statement, adding, “girl shut it, she was 15 and was grown enough to know what the word meant. Even 15-year-olds know what to say and not say, these excuses won’t cut it.”
But as many fans also pointed out, this isn’t the first time Camila was forced to apologize her past behavior.
Back in 2016, she released another statement after her fans swarmed her Fifth Harmony bandmate Normani’s social media to the point where Normani was faced with harrowing experiences of online racism.
Camila addressed the issue back then, saying that she “...won’t tolerate on my timeline any kind of hate, racism, or discrimination toward ANYONE. Period.”
The timing of Camila’s apology was pretty coincidental after Normani recently opened up about the racial trolling she received while in Fifth Harmony, saying that while her bandmates, including Camila, “offered support... I'm not sure they could be there in the way that I needed because it's not their experience.”
She added, “They don't have to face on a day-to-day basis the things that I have to. I definitely learned after that that I had to walk a different way. I can't look like everybody else.”
So let’s take Camila’s and many other celebs’ mistakes, as a learning lesson that your online presence will stay with you for years to come, so let’s try and spread love and positivity, yes?
But I know you guys have a lot to say about Camila’s apology, so I want to know your thoughts. Did her statement seem genuine, or do you think she should’ve known better at the time regardless of her age?

@TatzRules Yay What? Okay there are some people out there that do say stuff like that but to say that every dark skin person does is really ignorant. Theres a difference between the n word. The N word with the ER originated from slave owners, the n-word did as well originate from slave owners but was modified so it didn't sound so hurtful for us darker skinned people. Sorry if that's not what you're trying to say but your OPINION is very ignorant and insensitive. Have a great day!😊

because you see other people using that word and you think its a common word to say, for example some people that are still learning how to speak english get some terms all wrong, like "smh" some people associate it with "somehow" or when they find out that it means shaking my head they think its like the agreeing motion, I know some people that thought the n word meant "dude, bro" and they stopped using that word and felt ashamed once they realised what it actually means, in korean theres a really common word that souns exactly the same as the n word, not everybody is a english native speaker and most have to learn on their own, it would be much easier if people tried to explain the meaning instead of coming after people that didnt even meant it in a bad way and got in cold water for not knowing what it really means.

Being young is not an excuse for racism. As a person of colour myself from South Africa I knew racism from a very young age. My parents brought us up to stand up against racism and we did it throughout our lives: as children when we would fight other kids if they used racist words and stereotypes and as young adults whenever we saw racism. So her saying she was young is crap. She really showed her home. Her parents and people around her must be racist too cos thats where she learned this from.

But yeah, I hear that every day in high school, now that I’m in college I don’t. But this is just my experience in Chicago ( I don’t know if that makes a difference or not) but black, white, and Latinos say it all the time, and its in songs all the time (n word). So it has become really normalized, maybe thats also the issue?

Why are other black people not mad? Are you perfect, you have never made a mistake? Why won't you accept her apology from back then and now? Why do you think fighting hate with hate is better? Why do you believe ppl can't change, and learn from their mistakes? Only God can be the judge! And you all keep giving me the same answer oh at 14 everyone knows what they are doing, lies not everyone is the same. You guys answer oh she still a racist, lies how do you know her true heart. You answer she hasn't changed again your opinion on a person you don't know personally, oh she let her fans Bully normani, when that's lies and she asked her fans to stop the bullying and even normani herself said camila was there for her when all the bullying was happening. You guys say once a racist always a racist, again you guys opinions. Why can't we just be more humane and hope for a person to actually become better to be better or educate them in the matter. I even heard other blacks insulting blacks because they thought camilq was a foolish teen, and those ppl are getting bullied by their own race. If Christ himself forgave those who crucified him and he was a perfect man, who are we to judge when we are full of flaws and we all make mistakes.

Plus, even if she apologized when she wasn't caught. I'm pretty sure loads of people still wouldn't forgive her. Edit: I'll make it more clear. if they get caught that's why they apologize its their punishment. The same is when your in school and you do something bad, you get detention. oh boo yourselves i'm garrett bobby ferguson I completely disagree. If one isn’t allowed to do it, then no one should. And also this is a completely different situation from saying that parents are aggravating. In that sense a person truly means it. When you say that your mom is annoying you genuinely mean that your mom is annoying. In a joke it doesn’t matter who said it but their intention behind it was in a joke and not meant to be taken seriously. So if you can take it as a joke from one you should be able to do the same for another. If not then it shouldn’t be acceptable from anyone.

I recently watched some old videos I downloaded when I was 12-13 that I found really funny back then and only now realised how problematic they were. And I remember a lot of creators saying stupid things back then. The Internet now and then were very different so you really cannot compare being a teenager now and then. Coming from a smalltown on the countryside, my family and friends used to say a lot of bad things in my younger years and I thought it was normal, I didn't realise how hurtful they were to other people. Growing up, becoming a part of social media and seeing the people who were actually affected by racism, sexism anf homophobia changed me a lot and I have been aducating everyone around me about these issues ever since. And even though some of them refuse to change and become better people, my grandma knows better than to use the n-word in front of me, because she knows I'll give her hell for that. There have been a lot of arguments, but I'm not the kind of person anymore who just stays silent and doesn't stand up for others.

To clear things up she didnt call normani a racial slur those were proven to be fake , and she was 14 when she used that word, yes it is wrong but she was little and ignorant and at a age where ppl learn by making mistakes and ppl saying “ım young and I know what it means “ well in 2019 we as a community and a society are more aware of it , ppl shed more light on it now , back then it wasnt discussed that often and ppl even in movies used it , so its normal that these years teenagers knows what it means cuz they are more aware and active about it in the past ppl would even joke about racism and sexism and it wouldnt be a problem ppl didnt used to care thats why a lot of ppl didnt knew what it was, camila was at an age that is very easy to get effected by the ppl around them , no one tried to Cancel Ariana or justin or any other celebrity on this list but when its camila …… , and a lot ot ppl forgave jeffree star because of what he Said in his early 20’s but when some 14 year old says it without knowing what it means and apologizes twice after and does nothing problematic after the sittuation ( basically learns from past mistake) you cant forgive her? Smh you cant forgive someone who learned from their past mistake ?

All the people who say it doesn’t matter that she was young , she knew what she was doing. Let me ask you this , the 13 and 14 year old who stabbed that college girl Tessa Majors while robbing her . Using your reasoning , I assume you support a decision that they should be tried as adults right? Because at that age they sure as hell know murder and stealing is wrong. So they should spend the rest of their lives in prison or be executed right? There shouldn’t even be a family court and all people of any age should be tried as adults and there should be no age limit at all. Because these 2 killed this poor girl for nothing , they chose her because they were afraid to take on a man as they had planned to do originally. Figured a woman would be easier to handle , wouldn’t have worry about getting their punk ass’ beat. Well good for them , they got their street cred , maybe they can do an album with that 6x9 guy. My point being that there IS a difference between the mind of a child and that of an adult and the justice system recognizes this or they wouldn’t have been set up that way.

Here's the issue with the Camila situation, including many others like it. While I do believe forgiveness can serve a purpose, it can also come with a detriment at the expense of those on the receiving end. All too often forgiveness can extend the invitation to repeat offenders that this behavior can happen again because many people are willing to forgive and forget. In comparison, unforgiveness can drive the message that whatever act took place in the past was in fact a steep grievance and violation against the sufferer, which cannot be overlook. This, being unforgiveness, doesn't make one a victim, but it is a defense mechanism and holds the line against disruptive and disorderly behaviors. And, I think it can make the offender and would-be ones consider their thoughts and consequences before taking action. Apologies will always be statements made where the recipients had to decide whether they're believable in good faith, which is another issue. How do we know if apologies are sincere? Simply put, we will never know a person's thoughts. Regarding this situation, I will not forgive her because behavior shows a complete pattern. Not to be lewd, or explicit, but if 15 yr olds. know how to have sex (not all), make purchases, use computers, drive cars, and read history, then they're honestly aware of themselves and mostly the world. I do believe that she knew the gravity of her comments, but didn't care at the time because they held little impact until now where they threaten to undermine her profit potential. It's all about the money.

It's a long one if you have time, good if not then keep scrolling. There's 3 screenshots about camila being rasist, the 1st one is from a 1D fan account that she had in 2011 and there she used the n* word, which she apologised in 2013. In 2014/2015 ,2 other screenshots came along where in one of them she supposely insulted normani and the other girls of 5h,later on, these were proven fake and the person who made them apologised after the fans attacked them. Now Camila in her apology as 2019 was referring to the one from 2011 and this Tumblr staff and honestly in other terms I would be pissed but I couldn't, because if you look it up you can see that in her use of the word she didn't mean it as an insult she literally said " why is everyone hating on obama # myni**a " she use the word as equal to "dude" something that a lot of people do in middle school without understanding the impact that it has on black people which of course it's bad but I don't think you should label someone as a racist just from saying the n word, racist is a very strong word and from all I know camila has always been supported of humans rights, blacks lives matter, lgbt, active volunteer of savethechildren ect. hell one of her best friends is black. What makes the n word an insult to black people is the intention behind it and how people use it to low them and no I dont think that that was the case. Before judge someone take a look at yourself and question have you ever said something ignorant or rude that if your life was public it would probably be enough to make you look a bad person...and then answer yourself are you indeed a bad person? perspective is everything and I wish this world was more understanding.
