For the people mad about the clip, it doesn’t have to be interpreted as transgender. It’s literally just someone wanting to be themselves. Which can include being trans, but it can also just be someone loving video games and their parents want them to “be productive” or a kid not wanting to be pushed into an activity/career their parents want them to pursue. It’s about being and coming out as yourself, be it trans or anything else. Have some of you guys just never heard of disapproval?

For those mad about it, yes it could be a phase. It's a freaking puppy wanting to be a cat. The solution isn't to scream at it, treat it badly, or do anything else but love them. You do not get to decide for that puppy, or anyone, if it's just a phase. You can just accept that person for who they are NOW. Not who they could be, and certainly NOT for who you want them to be.

Personally I don’t think so, being neurodivergent isn’t trying to be another species or gender, it felt entirely trans-coded because the puppy wanted to be a kitten, which is something it physically cant be; it’s kind of like a kitten being born in a puppy’s body. while trans people are a gender born in another genders body.

i mean everyone can have their own take, but im both autistic and trans, and this reads closer to neurodivergence to me too. i was confused why the video was phrased as "coming out", when i was watching and just went "ohhh shes a catbaby" (as other folks have mentioned here and there, you can get dogs like this irl bc theyre raised by cats) she never outright says she wants to *be* a cat, she just acts like one- she isnt "behaving normally", and this is an obstacle to getting adopted. i also imitate sounds to stim and have generally found that people are more willing to tolerate me being trans than me just abruptly meowing or trilling. plus the whole "very skilled at pretending to be the kind of person others want". its been a long time since i watched this but she "matched" with a lot of different personalities, right? that suggests more of a masking/people-pleaser behavior (honestly the assumption of transness feels to me a bit like avoiding the autistic)

I haven't seen the whole episode so I don't know if the puppy was specifically trans-coded but I think it's still nice and important for a character to be weird and be themself to be happy. As a trans autistic adult I'm still learning to enjoy the things that really make me happy and express myself rather than all the stuff I did and ways to limit myself to be accepted by others, I feel there's a lot of overlap with those things, like it's harder to be accepted by others as your gender unless you dress, talk, and act a certain way, and similarly it's harder to be accepted when you get too loud when you're excited or flaps your hands or when you respond to small talk genuinely and alot more. In general I hope ppl become more accepting. I've only seen these clips but it seems nice and genuine.

Was this character made with the intention of being a trans parallel? I'm going to be honest; probably not. Doesn't mean it doesn't read perfectly as a trans metaphor and it doesn't mean the creators would be adverse to that interpretation but I think its just a more generic statement of being yourself, wether that includes being trans or not. However I don't know the creators intentions so as far as I know I could be totally wrong and a trans narrative could be the intention.

Actually as a trans guy it feels like it is supposed to be an umbrella tactic to include a lot of people but i actually appreciate it. They have to be careful with kids tv and its hard to make individual characters that are an allegory for different minorities that would make sense without the show or episode getting taken down. my dog is like this too! a dog in body, a cat in spirit. she's 9 now and she's living her best life as an odd little dog-cat. this also hit home with me being autistic and acting a little 'weird' at times, especially with my gender expression. no matter what allegory they were aspiring to create, with gender or with neurodivergency, i think it's a good way to let kids explore their world

Not 4 minutes of Pound Puppies clips bringing me to tears 😭 I used to watch this show when I was really little, like maybe 5, so this taps into some deep hidden part of my psych and makes me empathize with my inner child. I’m trans gender/non binary and before I came out I remember thinking just like Camilla “I can’t be who I really am, nobody will like me!” It’s a really painful fear to have and it really wares on a person to have to pretend to be something they’re not. These themes kinda went over my head as a little kid but now I’m really appreciating how the show handles this topic. It’s an imperfect specifically trans allegory (species and gender function differently, and Camilla is still a puppy in the end) but I like how it applies to anyone who is different than what people expect them to be, like the girl who likes firetrucks. They’re challenging gender essentialism by using cats and dogs and saying it’s not in all dogs nature to bark just because they are a dog, some dogs like to meow and do more typically cat like things and that’s just a normal part of who they are. They are saying that instead of conforming to some arbitrary standards in order to earn people’s approval, you should be brave and be yourself because you deserve to be embraced and accepted for who you really are. Even if that’s different from most people. My life improved exponentially when I transitioned; I was finally able to feel like I was an honest version of my self and thus finally capable of forming genuine relationships.
