I never cared too much about what vengeful producers / screenwriters / writers thought. Richard Poole is indisputably alive. We´ve got Fanfictions! Good video, really. But I only see seasons 1 and 2. His death was bizarre and unnecesary. The producers took it with him for leaving for the exact same reasons that the rest of the DI's left. Then they found out that they were seriously wrong. Today, in July 2021, Richard Poole is indisputably the best and most fondly remembered DI of the series (for me and for many the only one) and, since then, no one else has been killed. What can I say! Late very late. I'll stick with the FanFiction, with the books as long as Richard is the only DI starring and only seasons 1 and two of the series. Over the years you realize that the world has not come to suffer unnecessarily. And less for a fictional character. I explain. They have the ability to be immortal. Well, let's take advantage! I don't feel like crying that much, especially when it's not necessary. You don´t see the disgustind and horrific ep. 1 season 3 and it´s enough. . And, of course, neither the rest of the seasons. But people are free, indisputably. I prefer to have fun.
@kelsiaramaple3 жыл бұрын
I knew this video would be hard to watch for those who can't accept the unnecessary, cruel death of Richard Poole, myself included. I cried making the video, because in all of Series 2 we see Camille and Richard growing closer and it was brought to a cruel end. It's a tragedy that they never got a happy ending. Why couldn't the producers have him go back to the UK in theory, leaving the option for return even if it would be many years later? I understand why Ben Miller left for family reasons - of course, family must always come first - but loathe the decision to kill Richard. Thank goodness for fanfiction; those writers are amazing and in reading their stories I see that Richard Poole is very much alive. I watched all the other DIP series, and for the most part I enjoyed them. However, they are not even close to the brilliance of series 1 and 2 which is in a class all of its own. Ben and Sara had amazing on-screen chemistry and the original police team (Richard, Camille, Dwayne and Fidel) plus the Commissioner and Catherine are just the best.
@JamesTobiasStewart3 жыл бұрын
@@kelsiaramaple That to me is the issue, I have no issue with Humphrey or Jack (haven't seen much of Neville yet, can't judge) & I understand why the cast rotates, both out of universe (actors struggling with the heat or wanting to spend more time with their families) and in-universe; realistically a small island police force like this is gonna be a stepping stone to anyone with any aspirations to be promoted. Only officers like Dwayne who are happy just keeping their home peaceful are gonna stay for the long term. The UK officers were sooner or later going to get homesick, Camille had career aspirations beyond being second in command of a 4 officer station and officers like Fidel were gonna go where they they could get more money to support their family. All that being said, Richard's death feels all the more grating when you see the genuinely well done and pleasant farewells they gave Humphrey and Jack. Each was written off in a way that made sense to who they were and didn't require them to become a victim. But Richard... Richard got treated as another victim of the week and from episode 2 of season 3 everyone had pretty much moved on. That to me always felt like the show itself was eager to forget all about him.
@kelsiaramaple3 жыл бұрын
@@JamesTobiasStewart Absolutely well said! I agree with everything you've just written. Also, for me, Series 3 was the worst (having watched all 10 series), not least for the way the team 'moved on', but because they tried to force Humphrey and Camille together and I felt it was all one-sided from Humphrey. And coming after Richard and Camille shared all those scenes which implied a deeper understanding and respect for each other, it was like an insult to suggest that Camille would fall for Humphrey (who didn't challenge her intellectually or push her to grow in her role). Humphrey seemed to settle down by Series 5, but it did bite when he and then Jack Mooney got to have their peaceful exits, unlike Richard.

And I’ll bet Commissioner Patterson probably regrets the fact that he tricked Poole on the one chance Poole had to move back to the UK. Technically the commissioner had no way of knowing Poole would end up dead just because of staying in Sainte Marie but still, his conscience might prompt him to reflect that if Poole had gone back home to the UK, there’s a chance he might still be alive, whereas on the island he ended up murdered. Note that Patterson never again played that trick to fool his DIs into staying on island.

Yeah, the remaining team from Ep 1 seemed to be over Charlie Hulme's death quite quickly. I think when they saw how Richard Poole worked, his work ethic and being dedicated to the job and wanting the best from his team, Dwayne and Fidel stepped up their game at work. I liked that about Richard - he didn't shirk his duties and was prepared to put extra effort into solving the case, often teaching his team new ways of doing things (e.g. the fish tank to obtain fingerprints using heated superglue). He raised the team and celebrated the achievements of his team members.
