The round pen has the big advantage to avoid any corner, in this way horse won't feel stuck in a corner. But I admire her for doing this job in a non round pen.

Hey! You’ve been so helpful, but I’m having a problem with my untouched mare. After working with her to touch and coming up to her, before too long she gets mad at the work and thinks about lunging at me, pinning ears and threading to kick. I have a carrot stick and flag to defend myself. What do you recommend I do? Thank you!!

Hi Camille! Do you sell your mustangs as well or do you train for other people? I'm located in Europe and it has been my dream to own a 'makeover mustang', so I'm exploring my options and looking into trainers that I like and I really love your approach.
@ShinLeeChan3 жыл бұрын
She doesn't own any mustang that is going to take part to makeover event. So she can't directly sell anything to anyone. I don't really know if you can even make any bid from europe since auctions are live at the event.

I don't quite understand why when you first start touching him with the whip you push him over his threshold a few times... instead of giving him release after only a short touch, them building on that. I'm way more of a dog trainer so correct me if I'm wrong, but would it not be better if he didn't get used to running away when uncomfortable ... as far as you can help it that is. Release should ideally be matched closely in time to the right behaviour just as with training any animal.... Or that's usually the go. Or did you do it for impulse control reasons?He did fairly well as you continued so it perhaps isn't a problem, I'm more asking about your technique/thoughts on timing with release instantly after desired behaviour etc. I'm considering adopting a brumby, an Australian wild horse, so your videos are always interesting to me. Can't wait until you can get rid of those matts on his side!
@wintersilverrain92913 жыл бұрын
I felt this too, the amount of time the pressure is released doesn't seem long enough to let him think about whats being taught.... It all seems a little too fast for the first day tbh. But then like yourself I train dogs....but had horses (still have a keen interest) many years ago now. Just looks a little like bombardment rather than lessons.

She did just fine, this is not a dog. Lol I think all should do your research before getting a wild horse . Us horse ppl breath eat and know wat horse want. Thats like us horse ppl go and try to train a dog. ( we dont know wat were doing ) just watch and learn because u don't know wat ur doing and u can get hurt. You need to know the horse's limits. Have a blessed day.

@ShinLeeChan3 жыл бұрын
She took him for an event called "Extreme Makover". She has 100 days to train him and then take part to the event. Best horses will be then adopted with an auction. Nobody can go to BLM take a mustang then sell or trade him (unless 1 year passed from the adoption). There are strict rules for these horses to avoid any buyer that could send them to slaughter.

Have you been in the pen with him? I think because mustangs are used to eating from the ground and running from predators it might be a bit confusing for the horse? I think what Camille does in this video with just trying to stay close to the horse until it shows interest in you and then backing up 3 or 4 steps to relieve the pressure the horse feels from being a prey animal close to a predator (us). Does that make sense?
@bryannagrace5193 жыл бұрын
@@amiekp yes it does! i’ve been watching alot of her vids and trying different things with my mustang to see which is most effective with him. anytime i feed him, i stay close to let him come near me on his own, which he does and now he comes up to the fence when he sees me coming :) he also nearly ate hay directly from my hand, he came up to smell me twice as well

I think that you are doing really good so far, but boy he is a very reactive type isn’t he. I’m glad that you were able to get his tag off. I think that he might be slower to trust in the beginning but you’ll get there with your methods. Do you ever just sit or stand in his pen with him and just watch? I’m just wondering if that would help him with the human trust issues. Keep up your great work and I’m enjoying yours and Sam’s videos of these great training methods. 👍
