Refeeding an emaciated horse is a huge undertaking for the first month or so it's kind of round the clock. It's hard work, but very rewarding. Definitely not for amateurs. Fantastic job.
@blazingmyway14 сағат бұрын
@@Sherralyn thank you! The first few days were very hard, it’s difficult not to dump food in front of a skinny horse but I had some wonderful dietitians that helped me gain access to some super high quality feeds that were designed for the refeeding process. It really made the transition smooth!

This is so wonderful. It's sad and scary to think that such a good horse got into such a bad state. One would hope that a good-minded, broke, nice horse like Slim would never fall victim to neglect, but it obviously happened. And if you hadn't intervened, he would have died for no reason at all other than people had failed him. You kept telling him he was "a good horse" and he truly was. I have to believe he was loved at one point in his life and then fell into the wrong hands. What a shame it would have been for him to die and never have the chance to be someone's "good boy" again. That's all he wanted to be. Thank you for what you did for him. You're a good person!

Congratulations on caring enough to save this precious horse's life! I don't know if you've ever watched the "Clever Cowgirl". She has successfully saved many horses from starvation and she follows a very careful protocol in the refeeding process, and also in determining when they are strong enough for a farrier or to manage a trip to the vet. This greatly helps to avoid the risk of them dying from the refeeding or a vet visit etc. If you have a vet that's pretty invested in helping starving horses, they may be willing to come to your place for that first visit. So glad that everything turned out for the best!
@blazingmyway30 минут бұрын
@@jenisecoronado5555 that is incredible! Yeah the 2nd vet visit was with a new vet that cares enough to come out to the ranch, he is incredible and the only vet I’ll ever use again! After I told the first vet Slim was peeing red and I needed a vet to come out to test him immediately, they basically told me I was out of luck, so I either had to get him down there or figure it out. The 2nd vet, north Texas veterinary hospital, goes out of their way to make sure all my babies are comfortable
