We plan to walk the Camino, beginning May 24th. Our son and I will begin from SJPdP, my wife and our daughter will join us in Leon and walk the rest of the way with us. We are very excited!! We were supposed to go in May-June 2020, but covid had its say in that! Really enjoying your videos Stacey. They are very well done.

That sounds wonderful! That is a little like what we did. My husband and older daughter met us in Santiago for the walk to the Coast. Pablo had originally planned to meet us in Leon, but life intervened.... To be truthful about it, as happy as we were to see them and have the experience walking with them, it was a little challenging to adjust to their presence. After 32 days, Molly and I were used to our quiet style and were in great walking condition. They were more chatty and not used to the hills. We worked out how to make it work and were very happy they were there in the end.

@@staceyandmollypilgrims thank you for that insight on your family joining you in Santiago. I never thought of that, but it makes a lot of sense! I am enjoying your vlogs very much. I watched day 14, 15, and felt they were so good that I had to start at the beginning. So just watched day 1,2,3 &4. Bing watching since I’m home sick. So, thank you from the East coast of 🇨🇦

We stayed at Casa el Cura in 2017 and the hosts are fantastic. I dropped in to say hello as I rode my bike past there again in May this year. Loving watching your journey

Thanks, Bernie. Yes, the Casa el Cura was a cool hotel. It had a great bathtub, which was worth its weight in gold after all of that walking. The owners were also super nice.

7:30 I recall Sahagún pretty vividly for events, but not these sights. A Danish girl actually walked with me a few km up to the albergue, and she helped me sing in the street with her friend. They lay down and beat the time signature with fists on the ground, while I did the actual singing. For a Danish song I had heard of and never actually heard, she sang it for me while we were walking, but this was "Poor Lonesome Cowboy" and "Det var en lørdag aften" (a Danish song we both knew, and probably my best performance of it). I think she went further than I that day, or whatever, I was not in her company that evening. A Jewish girl from the Holy Land offered me yoghurt for supper (you know those four small pots of yoghurt which is the main way it is served in France or Spain).

If we were singing for our dinner, we’d go hungry. That’s not a gift of ours.

@@staceyandmollypilgrims With Camino walks, you improve your breathing and your sense of rhythm. My best time as a street singer was on and after the Camino up to and including 2005. In 2006 I saw places where singing for money was basically impossible, unless you played the guitar too, and since 2006, I have had too much colds.

3:22 There is priest shortage. Many of these are open around 1 h per week or month - when there is a Mass or perhaps also when there is a Rosary. The sacred vessels are precious and some thieves could get ideas when there are too few faithful inside and no priest.
@staceyandmollypilgrims2 жыл бұрын
Yes. We thought that was probably the reason. It was a shame, though, because I love those small town churches in Spain. The communities put their hearts into them and it shows.

@@staceyandmollypilgrims While converting in Sweden, a priest told me about churches in his Switzerland, where they would put bars around the altar and bolt the sacristy outside hours of services, Mass or other. That way, one could get in and pray, but the holy things were still fairly secure against thieves and sacrilege. At least it worked back then (late 1986).

Really enjoying your videos. Can I ask what backpacks you both used?
@staceyandmollypilgrims2 жыл бұрын
Thanks. We both used the Gregory Jade 38 (which was 35 L for the XS/S that we used). We could have gotten away with the Jade 33 or even the 28, but the extra size didn't add much weight, and we figured that these would be more flexible for future trips. We really liked them. This was our second Camino with these (we did part of the Norte and the Primitivo last year).

You covered a lot of distance by Day 17 of the camino. You can get a certificate that you've passed the halfway point at the Santuario de la Peregrina, which is a bit out of the way, but near the city of Sahagun, only less than 1 km away.
@staceyandmollypilgrims2 жыл бұрын
We had heard about those halfway certificates in Sahagun, but didn't know where to get it. We would have like to see that sanctuary, too.

2:17 Yeah, a town doesn't need to be huge to have a name and an independence as municipality. Did you know that the Meseta (except Madrid-Zaragoza) is among the least densely populated parts of Europe? Highlands and European Russia have more people per square km, only Lappland has fewer.

Or wait, that is perhaps just a specific part of the Meseta (8 / km^2 against 3 for Lappland).
