Stefanie, thank you for doing this. Most Camino packing checklists are pretty much the same. You have made a few very unique choices so people will realize there are options. Secondly your emphasis on earth friendly products is great. Absolutely agree with your opinion on Patagonia products. Excellent designs, ethical manufacturing and overall commitment to the planet is worth the extra cost. I have been a fan since the ‘80’s (I know I’m old) and have products that I have had for decades. Thank you for another great video.

Another alternative for water, use a small dry bag. i used a 1.5L, and clip it onto the shoulder strap. It easily fit a 600ml bottle of drink, a few muesli bars for snacks, and a little extra room (rolled up brieley book or an umbrella). Easy to reach, easy to unclip if needed. Worked well.

For all the people out there in the market for micro-fiber towels: they are usually made from plastics, but there is light weight alternatives like cloth diapers or organic cotton travel towels from a brand called 'valleys & hills' (not sponsored, I just got one myself, but honestly also haven't tried it yet). Just wanted to say a more eco-friendly alternative exists. Since Stefanie cares about it too, I thought a few of you out there might care as well.

I don't know about in the states but I can buy small woven bags in the supermarket near the veg stands that are intended for buying loose onions etc. They are a useful size maybe a foot square with a drawstring top, and I'm looking at these for other purposes too as I don't like plastic bags either. All I was thinking is that you're going to find it difficult locating small items in your rucksack unless they're in bags. I use packing cubes and find that if I don't pack them full to the limits - leaving some room - then it works better than leaving items loose as I'm always loosing stuff in my bags unless I have order.

Ah yes, I love that idea! I’ve decided that next time I’ll definitely bring a canvas tote for my day bag. Luckily my backpack has a lot of different pockets and compartments, so I never had trouble finding things without packing cubes. I did use a couple of small pouches to separate things like underwear and electronic chords. I think I only needed a plastic bag for my shower bars and eventually my toothpaste after it exploded in my front pocket multiple times 😂

Hi Stefanie, I finished walking the Camino Francés on 25 July (just over 4 weeks ago). I first thought of doing it on 1 June and left New Zealand on 16 June so I had little time to prepare. Amongst others I watched your videos and I want to say they were a big help. I only wore Keen Newport H2 sandals, no socks - fantastic. I have just decided to walk it again next year and leave a week or so later to catch the sunflowers in bloom, and am considering following your lead this time and wearing Chacos - were they as good on your 2nd Camino? I found the Keens superb although slightly too narrow for my feet (I often walk barefoot, and might walk parts of it barefoot next time). I love it. So … are you going to do another? Maybe the Primitivo or Portuguese? I want to walk the Francés again because while I walked the whole way, I want to stay in different towns and albergues, learn some Spanish before I go so I can communicate with the locals better (which I loved doing despite the language barrier). Take care, Alex

Such an interesting video! 🥰 So glad that you're back on KZbin, Stefanie. You were missed! Wishing you the smoothest Camino possible. 😊 I live in Portugal and the temperatures in Spain are very similar. It's extremely hot atm during the day and night, but in late August and September it tends to get a bit chilly during the night, so the Mexican blanket is definitely a great option!

As far as the sandals, one question. I have been rucking since September '23 and went from boots to sneakers to sandals and found nothing is more comfortable than sandals. However, the one thing I noticed is that these little pebbles get kicked up by the back of the sandals and imbed themselves under my feet, and I walk over pavement, causing me to stop periodically and slip my sandal off to get them out. I cant imagine being barefoot, as I wear shorty socks, and this happening when walking a great amount of time over unpaved roads, like you do on the Camino. Are you able to just shake them out or do you have to stop and slip them off to get them out? BTW, very informative video, thanks for all the info.
@StefanieHurtado
@StefanieHurtado 7 ай бұрын
Hi! Thanks for the question! I do sometimes get the tiniest little pebbles caught in between, and they’re always sharp 😂 but yes, I’ve always been able to shake them out! I don’t think I’ve ever taken my Chacos off on the trail. Hope this helps!

I wish everyone would stop leaving their tissues behind. I don't understand how people can just take a dump right on the edge of the road instead of going out a little further into the field or into the bushes. You see this all along the Camino, someone squats down and takes a dump right there on the edge of the road. Seriously? The worst is when you've been walking for 5 mi on a hot day with no shade and finally there's an oasis, a single tree casting shade and when you get there everyone has decided to use that shady spot as their toilet, like their biggest fear is the government satellites seeing them pee. You can't just squat anywhere else? You had miles of open field, tall wheat fields where you could hide and no one would see you or what you've left behind. And yet with miles and miles of open space, they choose to do it right in the only shady spot you're going to see in a 10 mile stretch.

Nice video, indeed! But... too much stuff, IMHO. I'm always very sad to see overloaded staggering Pilgrims on the track and desperate people in albergues looking for things that are lost in the bowels of an enormous backpack. 😒 In the first Camino we all carry too much stuff, anyway. And it's a big lesson, when back at home to split in three categories what we brought with us: A) things that were used often B) things that were seldom used: were they really necessary or were they only in the pack just to calm our anxieties? C) Never used: beside the First Aid Kit, in next Camino leave the rest at home.

I actually did a gear review video just recently, and went over the topics you mentioned :) This was my 2nd Camino and every single thing was put to use, with the exception of two small objects, so it was the perfect pack for me! It was super light, never hurt me, never lost anything haha! I actually love the feeling of carrying everything I need on my back. It felt very spiritual to me this time. But of course, everyone is different :)

So true 😅. My first Camino backpack was overloaded with unnecessary things I have rarely or never used and I based my list on many videos from KZbin. Truth is that you need to make your own journey and your own mistakes because everyone has different needs. I took too many clothes and too many toiletries, also way too many frist aid. Many things I didn't even use and was missing other things that I had to buy on the way. I'm getting ready for a short trip in beginning of May from Sarria which I did along my full route last year, but this time I take friend with me to show her a bit of Camino. This time my list will be more accurate and much smaller ☺️
