Day 15
Bercianos del Real Camino - Mansilla de las Mulas - 25km
Had a great night at the Albergue. Got chatting to a couple of kiwis who were walking from Burgos to Santiago.
A bit of a sleep in this morning as we are only doing 26km today. So up at 6:30am and on the road by 7:00am. It was a nice brisk morning, even had to don a jumper.
Another lovely sunrise greeted our day. This has become my most anticipated photograph.
We did a 7km walk to breakfast and then a 12km walk to have a rest and a bite to eat.
Today we bumped into Helge and Robert again. We hadn’t seen them for about 9 days and thought being young they will be miles ahead of us. What a lovely surprise to turn a corner and there they were. So hugs all around and a chat about the last 9 days.
Just after our second stop of the day we bumped into a lady who was looking for the Municipal Albergue to get a stamp for her passport. We stopped and had a chat. Jane 82 years young from Massachusetts was walking another stage of the Camino. Jane said she had been looking after her elderly sick sister and didn’t realise how much that had taken a toll and how depleted of energy she had and said she was finding it a bit of a struggle this year. Jane said she had started her walk 2 years ago and does 200km each year. Next year she will pick up where she finishes this year and complete her journey to Santiago. Jane walks 20km each day for 10 days. What an inspiration.
Another blister for me makes 5 now and 5 for Jim. Both our little toes are giving us grief the others are manageable. The pharmacys are making good money out of not only us I suspect - with gauze, tape, compeed and antiseptic. I get to play nurse every night dressing our wounds.
It was a beautiful day for walking today not to hot relatively flat. We anticipate walking between 25 -28km for the next 3 days. Hopefully the less time on our feet will be beneficial.
We can see mountains looming in the horizon. So I guess at some stage it’ll be up an over them.
Our Albergue Camino Hostel was magnificent, as was the Pellegrino’s meal. The courtyard had a canopy of grapes that were so tempting.
Jane also had tea there although she was staying at another Albergue, so we got to have another chat with her. She had some tales to tell and is a bit of a go-getter by all accounts. After Jane retired we were joined by a couple from Geelong, Australia - Matt and Alexandria. They also left from San Jean Pied de Port and are cycling. Said they had done heaps of training prior to setting off and even cycled to Orisson a day before just to do it again the next day - crazy buggars.
Well it’s been a long night so time to hit the hay - so goodnight from us.
Until tomorrow Buen Camino

You're only two of many that have said the El Camino leaves you with daily lessons. That's great to hear.

Did the walk with my wife in June/July 2019. A fantastic experience to share. We are Aussies too. Thanks for the footage. We recognise a few places and funnily enough I can remember things that we did on this leg of the walk. Might do it again we think
