I am fascinated by these tiny Camino towns. They are at once so isolated and yet people from all over the world walk through. So interesting!
@NadineWalks2 жыл бұрын
I agree, it really is so fascinating! And I'm sure that the Camino has helped keep some of these very small villages alive.

I liked your break adventure @9:00. My hiking partner and me call it the 'law/curse of the break'. After searching for a good stop for too long you settle for one that will do. One corner away the ideal stop will materialize. Without fail. But only after you have stoped.

Yes! Without fail!!

So…. True,…. I walked from SJPP to SDdC, in May/June 2022 , it happened three times , I took the break when I needed it so bad , but there was no place to sit or take shoes off.. and then when start walking within 5 minutes, over the curve, behind that bend .. there was rest area with either chairs or concrete benches etc., I could have scream 😱, but could not because I was on the Camino. Mystiques of the Camino. Cheers to all. 🇨🇦

That is so funny Nadine the things I lost on the French way, or should I say left behind, 3 hats, after buying new ones, two T-shirt, brand new diamondback hiking poles that's a lomg story, shampoo, the list goes on, what the camino takes, always gives back it was raining one day and I found an umbrella 😂👍🇬🇧
@NadineWalks2 жыл бұрын
This is great! (and, well, I'm sure frustrating at the time!) On my first Camino I lost so many things, too: a pair of shorts, a t-shirt, a pair of socks, my guidebook, my earbuds... now I'm MUCH more careful! (but obviously not perfect)

The Camino provides… OTHER people with your lost stuff. Everything you lose will be somebody else’s lucky find.

I forgot my towel at the albergue at the day before I got to Astorga ( I think, can't quite remember). The owner of the albergue called me and he had to go to town to do some shopping and brought it to me :P One of my favorite moments on my last camino :D
@NadineWalks2 жыл бұрын
Oh how kind! The thought crossed my mind that maybe someone from the albergue might find my hat and somehow be able to transport it ahead and I would find it again... but I knew the odds of that were very slim. I'm hoping another pilgrim who really needed a hat was able to find it!

On my 4th day when leaving albergue in Zubiri , I forgot my micro fibre towel, and I phoned them and tell them where I’m going to be in Pamplona , but never heard a word of it, Bought new one in Pamplona for over 15 euros , on Day 30th in Ponaferrda , I forgot that in the albergue,… I could have scream.. but I did not .. but stayed calm, decide to keep equilibrium because I was walking on the Camino. Wishing you well, Buen Camino ! 🇨🇦

Why do you not do thru hikes in the US? Camino de Santiago must be very addictive. I enjoy your videos, than you for taking the time to post them.
@NadineWalks2 жыл бұрын
Thanks, I have so much fun making the videos (and reliving the memories!) The US thru-hikes are not really my thing- I LOVE walking long distances and I think there are parts of the AT or PCT (for example) that I would really enjoy, but camping and carrying a heavy pack and food, etc, is a very different level than something like the Camino. For now, I'm very happy to do walks where I have a bed to sleep in and the option of a hot meal and coffee breaks during the day :)

Did you ever use an umbrella, to protect against the sun?
@NadineWalks Жыл бұрын
I haven't, mostly because I always carry a walking stick, plus take a lot of vidoes/photos as I walk, and juggling an umbrella as well would be a lot. I know there are ways to rig up a small umbrella on your pack so it's hands free, but I've never figured it out! But some people bring umbrellas and really love them to protect from the sun.

One difference between your vids and any other sites is you take us with you. You look at us as we are hiking next to you and nobody does all the caminos that you do. Not saying you do all of them, but the ones you do....we are there with you. Also i wouldn't think of hiking France unless I spoke the language at least as good as a third grader. Hey 3rd grader speak perfectly

Thank you for these kind words- when I first started taking videos of my walks and speaking to the camera, I was sending the clips to my cousin (she had walked the first few days of Le Puy with me and I wanted to include her in the rest of my walk). I was uncomfortable in front of the camera but it helped to know that I was "talking to someone", and I think I've continued to think of it like that... I'm always imagining that I'm talking TO a person in these videos, and so I'm glad to hear that it feels as though I'm bringing you all along.

I sometimes fashion a head or at least a neck covering from a t shirt if I don’t have a hat…
@NadineWalks2 жыл бұрын
I thought about that... I had a buff that I put around my neck and that helped (I do that anyway, with a hat too), I just really needed something to protect my face!

I honestly couldn't figure out a way to rig up something that would keep the sun off of my face! My neck, top of head- no problem, but not my face! (maybe I wasn't being creative enough?)
