I watch a lot of UK youtubers, so I sometimes randomly say UK slang, and one day, I started saying, "I rate that," and my husband HATED it. He's like, "you rate it what?" I was like, "no, it means I like it. I'm okay with it. it's cool." and he was like, "great, but you can rate something you hate. You just rate it low."

Ceiling fans help circulate the air inside the home since hot air rises and cold air falls (In the summer, they blow cool air down. In the winter, you can adjust some models to blow cool air upward, which dislodges the hot air stuck near the ceiling). They can also cool you if the air is hitting your skin directly. They are not connected to the HVAC system (air con/heating). They are part of the electrical system.

they are also common in australia, particularly in somewhat older houses that were built without an inbuilt AC, my childhood home had them everywhere because it was like 40 years old and wasn’t built with AC, so we had celling fans to compensate for 40°c days

It only fits the lexicon of people who have lived here for a while, I think. You need to have been drained of your sunshine, bullied heavily at school, and heavily desensitised towards being shouted at by drunk fat old men outside of pubs. You need to have lived in these grey, dreary summers full of rain and sadness 😂 you can't make these types of insults sound sincere, unless you've become numb, and speak in a dry monotone. You can't truly hurt a British person's feelings, if your insults are too passionate. It has to be dry, monotone, and with a robotic facial expression, for you to be taken seriously 😂 god why are we like this lol

So, the gratitude thing... I say it would be a 50/50 split that people would participate and the others would ignore the email and laugh behind her back. 😂 That being said, I think a lot of us do try to remain grateful because so many people in our country have it so much worse. It's a bit easier to stay happy in a world that's burning if you just try to be thankful for what you have. Your example, of the person at work being like "what do I have to be grateful for?! This sucks"! But I just try to think about how my job gives me money so that I have a roof over my head and food in my belly. Soooooooooo many people in our country don't have any of those things. It's not so much a "there's always someone who has it worse" mentality as it is "it could be worse for me, and I am lucky for what I have". I know this video is meant to be funny and I just got all serious 😅 but a grateful heart is a happy heart 🤷♀️ And I would definitely be the one to ignore the email and laugh behind her back. Keep that shit to yourself 😂

I've always thought the British term for a cigarette comes from the word for a bundle of sticks. It's the same word. Maybe because they look like sticks, especially in a pack of maybe because they're cancer sticks. I grew up and spent my first 32 years in the US, but I live in Belize, a former British colony. We only got independence in 1981, so there's still a lot of British influence on word usage and pronunciation but also much from the US because the advent of cable TV was in 1985 and most all channels before Satellite came from the US. We definitely speak a funny kind of mixed English in Belize and since I've lived here 22 years, I use it when I travel. It can confuse my US relatives. I really enjoy when you do the comparison videos.

8:03 I see why, and I think it's actually well designed, to have a ceiling fan and maybe a tower/pedestal one if need be. As hot air rises, the cold air from the fan cools that hot air, as a result leaving cold air near the ceiling, to cool the room down quicker? It's probably more energy efficient, i've only seen the ceiling fan in one UK home.
