Some of your comments were so well explained. I’ve been making a living as a director, cinematographer, writer and actor in “Hollywood” for over 30 years and was shooting super 8mm and 16mm from the age of 10 before that. Your point about the “paint brush” is so important. The lens is what we use to capture our story and that story should drive that lens. And there is no one answer as each filmmaker feels it different. Anamorphic may not be the tool for one person (well loved Roger Deakins is one) and be the total end-all for another. I shot one feature film as a director with anamorphic after begging and pleading the producers (this is after directing a dozen features on spherical) and could not until the last couple years go out and practice or even attempt a low budget (under 100k) feature without anamorphic til now. Not every one would I want to use them on but I bought the A set last month out of the Burbank office and shot in Asia with them the last month right out of the box! Was learning their traits as I went. This B set I don’t even know about (I just landed back in the US 6 hours ago)! So thank you (and curse you) for making me aware of the new set and for explaining what you did as I feel most KZbinrs/filmmakers get very confused on what they are talking about when it comes to “looks” and lenses and why we use and choose them. Like people, they are varied and gloriously different and “perfect”.

The 50mm seems like the sweet spot. Once the 33mm comes out, the 50mm and the 100mm would pair up with it very well. Blazar are making very interesting designs. And thankfully these are PL mount rather than some mirrorless mount which are very hard to adapt.

Thank you so much for this Cam. I've been waiting out for another sale on the A-Set but this B-Set is next level! With the 33mm as a 4 lens option as well, I'm totally sold. Also agree with your anamorphic comments too- they're often not clinically sharp and that's why people love them. Keep up the good work man!

Wow, can't believe they pushed out more quality lenses this year. As always, amazing videos Cam! You and Ed Prosser are my favourite on the platform. I've been loving the 45, 65 and 100mm silver flares. The 33mm and 125mm have me concerned about my savings.

Blazar are really offering an amazing line up. I am most interested in the 33mm as I already have the A set. The 33mm brings a wider look, which you can't cheat by cropping! Love filming close with wide lenses! ❤
@ChuckRiseUp
@ChuckRiseUp 4 ай бұрын
Finally someone saying it real : anamorphic lenses are NOT meant to be used wide-open. They are way too soft and doesn't make your image looks good. Most DP use them at T4 / T5.6 or even T8. It's great that you are debunking these false ideas that wide open is not creating a more "cinematic" image. For me the B-set is definitely a better choice since the 50mm is clearly the most useful focal in the whole set.

I totally agree with stopping down on anamorphic's, I grew up on movies from the 80's such as Star wars, indiana Jones even Die Hard, they all used Panavision C series and all of them where stopped down. I have been on an anamorphic trip over the last few years and you summed up a lot I have found. We are lucky that there is so many options. I have been having fun trying the Samyang anamorphic adapter and it has a surprisingly nice look.

@theranchhand I do feel with the focus lengths being so close you will not see that much of a compression difference plus they have slightly different flares I am solid on having 4 only. But that is just my opinion. If you haven't got the A set then B set may be good, but I per shorter focal lengths

@@waynosfotoscameras thanks for the quick reply. I’ve been going back-and-forth with it. I guess because they have such a big discount on the set it almost seems worth it but, at the same time the 5-10mm differences may be more apt for constant weekly working shooters. Where with the 33 mm, I could see paying their couple hundred dollar discount right now and having a nice set of four that are fairly varied. I like the 50mm a lot but it’s so close to 45mm like you mentioned there may not not be a huge difference for the kind of independent filmmaking I’m doing. But thanks again for the two cents. You may have just rocked me back to the 33mm and save the grand for a camera upgrade.

I recently shot a feature with the A set on the Venice. Footage was amazing. Blazar is killing the game. One the best investments I made. Will definitely cop the 33mm. I really wish they had a focal length between 200mm-300mm. In order to get a ECU had to put a +3 diopter on the 100mm which required us to always use a different matte box when going for ECU. Great lenses still.

I truly understand your frustration when people come to anamorphic world haha I got approached by a couple of buyer who's interested in buying my sirui anamorphic lens. They mostly take picture of models and portrait then complained the lens was too soft and not crystal clear sharp like... bruh that's how anamorphic lens works.... They don't even know what chromatic aberration and barrel distortion mean. Really makes me think us cinematographer understand our gear way better than most photographers... Not to look down on them so of course I did gave them some free education on anamorphic lens and what type of lens that suits their need.

Damn... These look sooooo goooood! I actually love all the softness and bloom and usually shoot wide open with my A set. I'm not really sure I need any of these B set lenses especially since if I need to a little bit closer in with any of the A set lenses, there's always clear image zoom on my Sony. But they really do all look really great. If I didn't already have my original set, I might have chose the 33, 50, and 85mm since those all seem like the focal lengths I normally use. Although that being said, anamorphics are obviously a lot wider than those focal lengths that I'm used to so it's hard to tell if there would be an advantage. Also, @cammackey, Do you know if they're going to send you the 33mm? That's the one I might actually just buy on its own to fit in that extra hole in the case. ;)

I got the cheaper Lumix S5 so I could afford one of these lenses. Now, it turns out I'll mostly be using some ASP-C-like portion of the sensor because of the cameras limitations. Photo Mode(?) FF 30fps could be useable occasionaly. Does it then make sense to go for the 33 mm FF even though much of the edge distortion will be cropped out? I have nothing against the 35 mm s35 other than that I don't feel like limiting myself to a smaller sensor area just because of the camera I have at the moment. If all the math adds up in my head I should be getting close to a 50 mm FF anamorphic in horizontal field of view, which seems like a ...reasonable choice, right? Any thoughts from people who have owned the S5? I'll have to watch AnamorphicOnABudgets video about the S5 shooting modes again.

I had sold my KX because I’m able to get my hands on one whenever I need! But if the Raptor X drops in price…. Might be the move. I kinda hate 8K tho. Wish they would make a full frame 6K X version

@Framesbyfrisby 4 ай бұрын
@@cammackey yesss I feel like 8K is definitely not needed unless you’re doing a lot of cropping and reframing, but even then 6K is a sweet spot !

I know that PL is king when it comes to these type of lens... however, can I get them in EF or would I have to mod them?

The rest of the Remus lenses have swapable mounts. I would assume these would also work with the EF mounts you can buy separately.

Hi Cam, would stacking couple of 77mm (same as lens filter thread) filters on the 50mm cause any vignetting issues (16:9 frame)? Amateur here. TIA.

I'm not convinced over the difference in field of view between the 45 and 50. Is this really so noticeable? Do u have any information why its not possible to buy the 125mm separately? Do u gonna make a video on the 33mm? PS: Rolling Shutter when u tested the 125mm was crazy xD

I also have the A set and though the deal they are offering on the B set is great for A set owners, I’m hesitant to spend the money on the B for what I see as being only small variations on the other set. I get wanting to have 7-8 lenses if you are a super active and professional shooter but I am more a director so would be using specifically on small features and docs I shoot on low budgets. I may just buy the 33mm and with the 45. 65 and 100 it covers a good range. But…. The brain starts screaming for $700-800 more you can have 50, 85 and 125. Our creative and financial battles!

@@executerdelta they sent me the discount code and gave me an extension and I keep adding and subtracting and thinking it through. 33mm is a definite, 50mm is a nice addition and the 125mm is a sort of “could be helpful”. If I drop the 2200 (with tax) on the B and the 1200 on the 33mm later, that’s a nice chunk to be spending with really only one got-to-have lens and several others thrown in. But…. We are also getting great glass for less than one lens 5 years ago! I also need to upgrade my dinosaur a7s2 … haha. Thank god I make at least some money doing this!

I don’t know. I bought the Great Joy branded lenses and although they can look awesome, especially the 50mm, the 35 and 85 lack sharpness, even stopped down. Maybe the Blazars are different, but knowing what I know now, I wouldn’t make the investment again

@@WhiteRabbit-ci4oyGet the lens in PL mount and a PL to E adapter. You'll find adapters online from Nisi, DZO, Meike, Metabones to name a few. Then get the Lidar system. Not sure if you need additional accessories to make it work.

I love this review thank you. I wasn't quiet happy with the blue flare set. If I want to keep the set I already own. What would be your take to add the B set with the silver flare? BTW I canceled the amber flare set, as it took blazar ages to sent it out. The store was kind enough to let me cancel the amber, but they held the money for a down payment for the cato set (Silver).
