The update aquatic made a big change. The chute up used to be just alternating water blocks and signs. Much easier to make. But since mobs 'forgot' how to swim, we now need soul sand and preferably kelp.

Spider spawners are very usefull, they give you string wich you can use to trade with villagers, the string can be used to make beds for mining netherite and you can make normal wool and build with it. It isnt even that harder to make.

Actually is still better to use a sword intead of punching since ot has sweeping damage, attacking more mobs and you'll gain more xp overtime. So just have a bunch of wooden swords around to grind the farm.

This farm is done wrong. Spawns can only occur a block above the spawner, but the spawn point is at the feet of the mob. This means if they spawn at the top of the block, they are blocked by current roof. As a result, *this design has about a third of its spawning spaces invalid*. Failed spawns reset the timer too, so you lose a huge amount of efficiency. Just remember to fill the single block column above the spawner, so nothing spawns and gets trapped up there and stops future spawning. e. Watched it again, this is also too shallow and too thin! The mobs can spawn in a 3x9x9 area, but if they spawn at the edge of it they can collide with the wall and get blocked. Dimensions should be 11x11 for this reason. The mobs are also still within the spawn area while they traveling in the water at the bottom, preventing spawns. Since they can jump out of the water as well, we need at least 5 blocks of space cleared under the spawner, accounting for freak accidents to gain them another block of height. So, final dimensions should be 11x11x9, with the spawner on the fourth row down, and a three block column above the spawner block. The water layout doesn't work anymore, so a fresh design for source block placement is needed.

Nah string can be good tho if it’s an afk spider farm and is in simulation distance of your base, ez wool for ancient cities (even though an elytra is all you need) and string for bows for dispensers.
