Camogli, Italy stars in this travel vlog about the Italian Riviera and one of Liguria’s prettiest villages along the coast near Genoa and Portofino. Camogli Italy on the Italian Riviera will charm you with its beauty and dreamy setting by the turquoise sea. Camogli is a small coastal village with a history intricately tied to the sea.
This Italy travel guide takes you to Camogli’s location on a pebbled beach between Genoa and Portofino, where its dramatic position hugs the Portofino National Park. Pretty Camogli, Italy is a secret that Italians have kept to themselves. You don’t see too many foreign tourists on this part of the Italian Riviera. Unlike Santa Margherita and Portofino, there are no designer stores, celebrities, or super-yachts. Camogli is decidedly low key in a very charming way.
Camogli Italy translates to houses of wives - a meaningful name for a village where women ran the village while their spouses were out for long periods at sea on naval missions or fishing industry.
In Camogli, the tall, colorful homes at the seafront across from the beach reach taller and stack closer than the buildings in most Ligurian villages. So, it was easier for the Italy Riviera villagers to spot the of sails of the boats returning home.
Our absolute favorite restaurant in Camogli is ‘La Camogliese’. The restaurant rises from the beach on a tall pedestal and looks out over the sea. Try the swordfish and pistachio pasta. Or the octopus salad. Or the fried anchovies. We asked Maurizio, the owner and manager, to tell us the story of this marvelous place on the Italy riviera.
Charming Camogli’s small harbor is home to many traditional Ligurian fishing boats, called gozzos. The wooden gozzo arrived in Liguria Italy several centuries ago, introduced from the east into the Mediterranean by the Arabs. Local builders perfected the construction of the gozzos along the Liguria Italian coast to reflect the characteristics of local fishing.
Another way to describe Camogli is vertical. A steep staircase connects the promenade and the next street over. Camogli’s hamlets and neighboring villages link together by a cross-cross of steep footpaths. This means Camogli is a great place to find amazing views out into the Golfo Paradiso - Paradise Bay. In this travel guide we’ll give you to a few of the best views on the Italian Riviera that you can reach from Camogli. Including the views from San Rocco and Panorama point.
Our travel vlog also takes you to the pride of Liguria, Pasta Fiorella across from the beach on the main walkway in Camogli. The fresh pasta shop is named after the owner, Fiorella, who has owned this shop since 19XX and has been making the amazing pasta ever since. Fiorella runs the fresh pasta shop with her children and her sister. They are open 364 days a year, closing only on the day after Xmas for a family meal. Fiorella also serves to-go pasta meals.
From this tiny, but hard working Liguria harbor, the ferry departs for Liguria San Fruttuoso, a beautiful abbey set in a secret bay on the Italian Riviera. San Fruttuoso Italy Riviera is one of the best things to do in Liguria a definite top ten of Italy.
As we walk past the harbor after the ride to San Fruttuoso Italy toward the lighthouse, we see a bit of Liguria Italy fishing history. In this travel guide, you’ll visit the defunct public cauldron that was once used to dye fishing nets made from cotton fibre.
We’ll end our quick tour of this pretty little fishing village with a visit to the Focacceria Revello. Revello’s focaccia is among the best in Liguria. Focaccia is a staple of Liguria Italy and always better when it’s still warm. So our advice is to only buy focaccia if it’s just out of the oven. Ask for a ‘focaccia appena sfornata’.

We are leaving Camogli in the morning. Have been here one full week and loved every minute thanks to you guys. Camogli would have never been on our radar as a place to stay and this place fit us perfectly. Hiked where you hiked, ate where you ate. We have been in Europe for five weeks- this week and our seven days in the Dolomites ( thanks to your videos) have been the greatest surprise love fest. ❤❤❤

🙋🏼‍♀️ Greetings! I just found your videos today, the 24th of June in 2024. I think I've seen all based on Liguria. The perspectives you show help me see the towns, and the people! Apologies, but here I go high context. Redirect me if necessary! I'm hoping for help deciding where to stay in 2026. A place to call home for two weeks or more. I love the promenades and palm trees but, wow, it looks like cars are strolling along just as much as people! Oof, that's changed my thoughts looking for a home base place, originally Rapallo. Explore the towns by day and settle in evenings with a view. Couple constraints: all by train & on foot, really can't stand seafood. Love a sense of place, color & alley ways. Spring or September? Need sun!

@@happygoluckytravel Well, there are so many little villages worth to be visited more or less off the beaten track, some of them are interesting alternatives to now overcrowded Cinque Terre, like Portovenere (quite famous to be honest) or Lerici, Tellaro and Sestri Levante. But just to remain in Liguria, on the western coast (Riviera di Ponente) nice places to discover are Final Borgo, Bussana Vecchia (a former ghost town now inhabited by artists), Apricale, Dolceacqua, Castelvecchio di Rocca Barbena, Cervo, Borgio Verezzi, Montalto Ligure and many others. These just in Liguria, but there are so many more in the other regions of Italy!

@@happygoluckytravelTo be traveled at least once in a lifetime is the legendary international railway called "del Colle di Tenda" which connects Ventimiglia with Cuneo passing through Breglio and Tenda. The branch coming from Nizza Marittima joins in Breglio, but in my opinion the most spectacular stretch is the one along the Val Roja, in particular the spiral stretch after the station called Fontano - Saorgio.

@@happygoluckytravelThe Val Roia (Roia Valley, also known by the spelling Val Roja, in French Vallée de la Roya, in Roiasco/Brigasco/Intemelio Val Röia, in Ligurian Val Reuia, in Occitan Val de Ròia) is a 59 km long valley divided between Italy and France, which takes its name from the river Roia which runs entirely through it to its mouth in Ventimiglia. In my opinion, the most beautiful in Liguria

Well, my first tip is to come to visit Camogli and Portofino from May to mid July, or in September, avoiding the second half of July and August, when most of the Italian people is on vacation and Camogli, San Fruttuoso di Camogli, Portofino, Santa Margherita are very crowdy. Second tip: avoid to travel to Portofino or Camogli in the week-ends for the same reason; if you want to appreciate these beautiful villages the best hours are in the morning, before the arrival of the tourists, or in the evening, when tourists are gone. The Portofino peninsula is a natural Park, small, but beautiful. There are more than 50 miles of trails, so it's a paradise for hickers. Bring your trekking shoes. Warning: the Mount of Portofino is only a little more than 2,000 ft high, but some trails are pretty hard and difficult. Check the difficulty, the time needed and in the summer bring a lot of water. The web site of the "Parco di Portofino" has maps and indications, but don't hesitate to ask. Every year dozens of tourists need the help of the alpine rescue team. We have few beaches and some of them are very small. But we also have little coves you can reach only by walk (boating in the park's marittime reserve has many restrictions). When the sea is calm the best place for swimming is Punta Chiappa: a long rock half way from Camogli and San Fruttuoso. You can get there by boat with the little ferry from Camogli or from San Fruttuoso or with a 50' walk from San Rocco di Camogli. The water has an exceptional transparency and goes from emerald to deep blue. And it's full of fish.

How nice that you're headed to the Italian Riviera! Santa Margherita Ligure, Rapallo, and Chiavari are relatively flat. Camogli though one of our favorites is a vertical village with a lot of steep staircases. However, If you stay at the promenade, you can access the beach next to the church without stairs, the ferry, and many restaurants. The train station is unfortunately up one level from the promenade, only walkable without stairs if you go along the road at either end. All the best for your travels!

Thank you for watching and the encouragement! The prices will be lower in the winter and early spring. Once Easter hits rates go up, hitting their peak in July and August. We don't have a specific recommendation, but since Camogli is very small, as you go up the hill you might find better prices. There is a bus that runs once an hour up and down the hill to the village. Have a great trip!

They are different and great in their own ways, but we also favor Camogli, too. Camogli has direct access to the trails of the Portofino Peninsula, Nervi has a lively kayaking base and a longer promenade. Nervi's village is stretched out along the coastal road, Camogli's village is more concentrated. You're lucky to be choosing one of them!
