Britain's commandos have a new Arctic operations base for the next 10 years.
Camp Viking in the north of Norway will act as a hub for Royal Marines as they perform their duties as the tip of the Arctic spear - the unit Britain turns to when it needs troops able to fight in extreme cold.
The camp, which offers modern facilities in the village of Øverbygd, about 40 miles south of Tromsø, is beside a Norwegian armed forces base and close to the established air base at Bardufoss where the Commando Helicopter Force operates.

@@KennyNGA At the end of the day Brits are most likely either Britons, Gaelic's, Vikings, Saxons (basically Vikings) or Normans (The Viking Dutchy of France) Realistically we are all extremely close. Only difference would be Gaelic and Brittonic from the rest which are descendants of mainly Norway & Denmark (although some North-Germanic influence).

Camp Viking besides Camp Skjold ("Shield") is not just near Bardufoss base, it is halfway to the border with prospective NATO members Finland (about 40 km away) and Sweden (about 25 km away). Quite a convenient location for not-officially-a-base.

They should build a snowroof for those vehicles, they'd benefit from not having a lot of snow on them, and its easier to leave kit strapped on the roof

Not so long ago the Norwegians had strict rules in place about NATO troops stationed on a permanent basis where one had to pull all your kit out at end Ex they however allowed the UK to have its outward bound school in Kristiansand's where all the vehicles are painted blue , back in the day when the Ace mobile forces (AMF) which was known as Allied Command Europe (ACE) mobile quick reaction force , now disbanded ! the British Army had 1 infantry battalion and 1 logistics battalion based in Bulford , plus RAF and Army air corps helicopter support , this unit carried out Artic warfare training qualifications under the watchful eyes of the Royal Marines and operated out of Voss , with its main HQ located in a small local Norwegian barracks, the infantry companies and logistic forces were spread about the area in hired mountain hotels which were available in the winter, some of them 5* and every 2nd year the whole UK force would join up with the other NATO forces for a major exercise centred around Bardufoss in the North .,

@SNOWDONTRYFAN
@SNOWDONTRYFAN Жыл бұрын
@@gawkthimm6030 Totally logical now to have a certain amount of other NATO presence , but its not a lot , mainly the operational airbases where NATO have facilities and the naval bases which host short NATO detachments re: artic patrols the USMC have had a stores and ammunition prepositioned point since the 80s and now have a battalion strength based in Vaernes near Trondheim all designed for Arctic combat operations , they still have strict rules in place , but times are rapidly changing and the Norwegian Government in 2021 gave the USA permission to build new facilities on existing Norwegian bases? which are designed to give NATO a better working presence in the Norwegian bases , example logistics , communications , air patrols etc .

Considering Norway is a member of NATO they should be expected to have NATO forces based there. Neutrality didn't work out so well for them with Nazi Germany in WW2 and I doubt it would with the enemy for the next expected conflict.

This show off , and tech will be useless , in a war with a european power , if your army is still less than 200k , a country like uk is suppose to have at least 650k regular and reserve and semi trained cadets above 18 or 17 in combined , that can be mobillissd in less than a month and deployed overseas and doing duty in homeland in martial law

You are obviously clueless when it comes to our great history we have regularly been outnumbered when being attacked even as recently as 1982 and before that the second world war and many times before and have always come out on top. Quality always beats quantity in the UK's military and we can soon muster numbers if needed we are a warrior nation it's in our dna.
