Great over view! I've been running a campaign for about two years and love to improvise. But I like your thoughts on prep. I am going to be making a story board/flow chart for my players to organize their contacts and locations and let them see how they fit relatively to each other.

One thing I always mention to my players is that this is my version of star wars, I will try to keep somewhat to "canon" but I guarantee I won't be following things perfectly. I too use wookiepedia to research planets or characters but I will take from Canon or legends if it fits MY storyline. I find if I set that expectation at the beginning it helps a lot, even if I have a total Star Wars junkie who wants to contradict me and tell me that didn't happen or shouldn't have happened. They need to know that I'm not a Star Wars "expert", I've watched the movies, cartoons and enjoyed them but by no means know everything about it.

One clarification I think needs to be made for those new to the system, you mention "core rulebooks" and mention 4 but there are only the 3, Edge Of The Empire, Age of Rebellion and Force and Destiny. FFG has since released "Era books" and The Rise of the Separatists, Collapse of the Republic and Dawn of Rebellion are all books based on their respective time period and they are great additions to support the main Core rules but they can't be used just on their own as you would still need one of the 3 core books.

I already have the core rule books. Most of the sourcebooks for Star Wars AoR,F&D and EoTE. I even colored copied off the ones I’ve got with the important parts of the rules. So it will make it easier. the core rule books&sourcebooks add rules. Are alittle confusing/vague. Oh forgot I colored copied off the important parts of the rules. The rest are just fillers. But I’m getting some ideas. This video is informative,calming&helpful.

Working on two different campaigns, that could actually have one or two player characters or NPCs end up in the later one as well. The first is Star Wars: The Jedi Purge or Order 66. This obviously takes place during the time of Order 66 and the player characters, being Jedi and on the run, must hide and figure out how to live their lives. This would put a restriction on the players to come up with creative ways of dealing with problems, without all the flashiness of swinging a lightsaber. Using their Force powers would need to be lowkey so as not to give away they are Jedi. Second idea is Star Wars: Rise of the Jedi. This is years later, after the death of the Emperor and the start of the fall of the Empire. It could even work with the books, The Jedi Academy and Luke starting his own Jedi training and looking for new students who are sensitive in the Force, like in the books. The player characters could either be found and go to the temple to begin their training or they are already past that and are some of the first students of the academy. They could have a mission to search the galaxy for Force sensitives.

The game is not dead, it's going to be reprinted this year by a company called Edge. They also announced new expansions.

​@@Darkwintre yeah they are being reprinted. I now have two core rulebooks that say 'Edge' instead of FFG. I think that's the only difference though

I know this was posted a while ago but correct me if I’m wrong. Rise of the separatists isn’t a core rule book but just a source book on an era like collapse of the republic and dawn of the rebellion. It gives info on how to play in a different era of star wars but you still need a core rule book

A good alternative is to use your voice/video/messaging platform of choice, plus dice.skyjedi.com to make the rolls. If you use discord, there are numerous dice bots available.

You can also use tabletop simulator and get the mod for it! Fantasy Grounds has a mod for it as well, but that costs money each month so I don't use it.

relatively new there is Foundry VTT, in my eyes a newcomer more than worth a deeper look into. the star wars (as well as Genesys now too) system is really pretty and well done already

Researching the past scavenging clone wars era bases discovering evidence of kotor era locations uncovering new gear or even ships if that's of interest after all what better way to locate replacement parts that predate the empire so can't be tracked?
