Ricky Hatton was my first boxing hero as a child. Seeing his son make his debut definitely makes me feel my age. He’s got a massive legacy to live up to but he seems grounded and not a big time Charlie but so was Ricky. Wish him all the best and just enjoy every moment. When that Manchester arena reopens and he fights on it spines will tingle.

The thing that guys me the most about this is that I had some talent as a kid, I loved to fight and I could fight and I trained like a demon BUT my dad was the trainer in the gym and I could never get a good word from him, I used to spar lads who were better, older and stronger than me and I took some hidings but I never went down or complained but my dad just never gave me that bit of encouragement I needed and I did need it. I quit in the end and I never got carded or had an amateur fight and it’s the biggest regret of my life.

A lot of pressure there boy. You need a lot of sparring , i mean top top level sparring. Go spar theee world champions getting them ready for their fights. That’s how you learn. They will give you a proper ass kicking but it’s all worth it. Go beg for an ass kicking everyday of your life from these world top champions until you are a champion yourself or forget it. From one perspective he has a lot to live up to but I hope he does well ...and if he does eventually become a champion he needs to learn from his dad's mistakes .Ricky used to balloon up in weight between fights ...and as great a fighter Ricky was imagine if he'd have had mayweathers dicipline, I think his career would have been much improved and longer lasting.
