The increasing amount of lactose intolerance sure doesn't help with the lack of Vitamin D, and also depends on how much sunshine get, depending on where living.

I wonder why this is happening since 3 years my whole family has been taking vit d supplements even though we have sufficient sunlight in India

There could be many causes related to lifestyle, genetics and diet, but the most likely cause is skin tone. People with darker skin require more sunlight to produce enough vitamin D.

Nutrient deficiency also might be the cause. Lack of other essential nutrients like Vitamin A, Vitamin K2, and magnesium can hinder Vitamin D absorption.

I burn under a 60 watt bulb so getting more sunlight just isnt an option. What's the best form of supplements? Foods?

The fact that the prehormone "vitamin D" is not a significant component of most traditional human diets combined with the fact that it is normally synthesized in the human skin in the presence of adequate sunlight exposure suggests that it is not a "nutrient" at all. In fact, as a public health nutritionist, I would submit that it would be more appropriate to consider using "vitamin D supplements" as a form of hormone replacement to the extent that lab tests indicate low levels of serum calcidiol (the intermediate form of "vitamin D" that is stored in the liver and converted by the kidney into the active hormone calcitriol upon demand).

@kodowdus so what do you suggest? I have health issues and am seriously looking for answers. I believe you hypothesis has real merit. But all the supplements I've tried have no lasting effects.

Sunlight onto the whites of your eyes will give you the Vitamin D you are looking for. Don't look at the sun, but with your eyeballs towards the sun, look to the left and to the right. Avoid sunglasses if in direct sunlight. Sunglasses are fine if you are in a car, As the glass blocks the UV

@grannysweet I take 5,000 IU of so-called "vitamin D3" per day, and my serum calcidiol was at a pretty good level (somewhere around 65 ng/ml) the last time I had it tested. (I also try to get at least a little morning sun, if only for the near-infrared exposure, but there are probably lamps for that as well.)
