John please do an updated video on this topic which takes into account fractionated LDL especially VLDL and Apo B . It is my understanding that only Apo B or oxidised and damaged VLD is the atherogenic. I'm interested what you think of the video by Dr Stephen Ekberg titled "your doctor is wrong about cholesterol" where he goes into some detail on this. Do you think his analysis is correct? Many thanks as always for the work you do.

Great presentation-although there is a fairly large amount of data suggesting that high ldl in general is not a risk factor for cardiovascular disease. In fact ldl performs a critical function and statin treatment may impact that. Please look at Dr Diamond and the cholesterol myth.

6:01 Why do you use the term polysaturated instead of saturated? Is that just a British usage difference? It is too easy to confuse that with the term polyunsaturated. Since there are only single carbon bonds in saturated fat what could be "poly" about it?
@Chaoticfulisade
@Chaoticfulisade 7 жыл бұрын
Poly literally means a long chain of. Like polyethylene is multiple ethylene chains. Saturated fats are known as the term for the group of fats, or a lazy way of saying mono-saturated.
@garzascreek
@garzascreek 7 жыл бұрын
If one does a search on polysaturated Google will think you are very confused and say "Did you mean polyunsaturated?" or it will send you to the page on a New Zealand hip hop band so named or inform you that it is a colloquial for overburdened polyamory or send you to a couple pages were it is a clear typo.
@Chaoticfulisade
@Chaoticfulisade 7 жыл бұрын
Because google is american, I guess. we've been using poly as a word meaning multiple chains or lots of: e.g. Polydipsia (excessive thirst) poluria (frequent urination), polysaccharide, poly-saturated. It just is, and Dr Campbell is British, so that's just how we say it.

no, mono or poly are words associated with Un saturation, or presence of double bond between two carbon atoms , if only one double bond present its mono unsaturated, if more then its polyunsaturated. there is nothing called mono saturated

Cholesterol is in your entire circulatory system. Why is there clogging of the ARTERIES close to the heart and not in the veins or capillaries in your nose, ear or knee? This is because the pumping of the heart can cause hairline cracks. Blood pressure is highest in this area. These hairline cracks are repaired by a sticky substance LP(a), to prevent from getting worse. Why don't animals have cardiovascular disease? Almost all animals produce large amounts of vitamin C in their liver. On average 35 mg/kg body weight. So we have to take at least about 3000 mg of vitamin C ourselves because humans cannot make vitamin C. You get strong collagen tissue, strong connective tissue, strong arteries. Hairline cracks no longer form and arterial plaque is removed and burned in the liver. Repair with cholesterol is therefore a consequence of a deficiency of vitamin C. So do not take statins, but vitamin C in a high dose: at least 3 grams, better: 6 to 10 grams Source: Cardiovascular disease and vitamin C (Dr. Rath Foundation)

does smoking marijuana have the same effect to heart disease as cigarettes?
@Chaoticfulisade

It is unclear in the UK and several countries that have not conducted research due to smokers using tobacco amongst cannabis or marjuana when smoking it. Therefore, only in the next 4-10 years of studies will we know an answer.

This doctor may know a lot about medicine, but I'm afraid he knows little to nothing about biochemistry! There are not two forms of cholesterol, there are two forms of lipoprotein, but they both carry the same cholesterol molecule. Cholesterol isn't a carrier molecule like a truck. The lipoproteins are the carrier molecules and it's cholesterol that they carry. Cholesterol is absolutely vital to the body. It strengthens every cell membrane in the body, it's vital for the nerves and the brain to function. Steroid hormones are made from cholesterol, and it has many other vital functions. We would die without it. LDL doesn't 'dump cholesterol in the blood' -- its job is to take cholesterol to where it's needed in the tissues. The body doesn't make 'bad' chemicals. He also doesn't know what polyunsaturated fats are. Saturated fats are those with single bonds between all the carbon atoms in the molecule: C-C. Monounsaturated means there is one carbon to carbon bond in the molecule that's double: C=C. Polyunsaturated means there are several or many double bonds between carbon atoms in the chain. Polysaturated makes no sense whatever.

Give him a break. Big Pharma is making $35, 000,000,000 on statins and have a vested interest in promoting medical treatment to lower cholesterol. Trying to gauge coronary health risks from looking at cholesterol is like dropping your keys in a dark parking lot and looking for them under the street light when you dropped your keys over in the dark somewhere.

@@slowfinger2 I don't think so. He is just a doctor sincerely trying to heal that has fallen for the low fat, high carb agenda of Big Ag and Big Pharma trying to sell their corn and soybeans and statins. It all started with Ancel Keyes's flawed Seven Nation Study in 1956 where saturated fat became the boogeyman and progressed to the USDA Food Pyramid Congress authorized when they started the food stamp program. Big Ag lobbyists hijacked the food pyramid to pile on the grains and carbs as a substitute for fat when the scientists were trying to get people to stop eating eggs and bacon and eat fruits and veggies. Cholesterol is the marker they erroneously use to measure atherosclerosis when oxidation, inflammation, glycation and stress cause atherosclerosis, not cholesterol (which is the bandaid your body places on the scars and cracks in the inner lining of your blood vessels where the small LDLs are deposited). Statins will lower LDL (which is not a problem) shown repeatedly by studies in British Columbia, the Netherlands, Japan and Harvard. Statins by increasing the LDL receptors in your liver remove LDLs, but it removes the harmless LDLs and leaves the harmful oxidized LDLs which are Accelerated Glycation End Products. Suger and the hormonal effects of insulin triggered by the sugar is the biggest, baddest boogeyman.

@@slowfinger2 You make several good points. Dr. Campbell is one among many in the medical community that have drunk the coolaid of the university and reseach societies. Medical doctors have very little training in nutrition. Allopathic medical doctors fundamentally believe that our bodies will fall apart and then can be treated with a pill, and when that fails surgery. They are absolutely great at treating acute problems like broken bones, but not so good with chronic problems. Naturopathic doctors believe our bodies can maintain good health if provided proper nutrition, regular exercise and a healthy lifestyle. It is a challenge getting good nutrition with the Western diet, but we can learn to make healthier choices in spite of ConAgra, General Mills, Monsatan/Bayer and Tyson Foods. It is up to us to control diet, lifestyle, exercise, stress control and beneficial social contact.
