Camper Cover - all weather - Camper Cover for Winter - VW T4 Hightop - Trident Autosleeper

Can I fit a cover to my high top camper on my own?? How easy is it? Is fitting a Winter cover a good idea?? I think I might get some comments on this one!! 🥴

Thanks for watching the vid... it's the first time I've used a cover John, and Im aware that you need to keep an eye on it... make sure there's plenty of air circulating etc... I'll check it once a month. You must be excited about getting your Autosleeper... I wish you happy travels. I absolutely love mine! It's one up from camping, you're 'in' but your 'out' I still feel 'outdoors', where as a caravan is a completely different experience. Too much like 'home from home' - and requires housework! Happy travels 🤗

@@teresasworld3374 no probs Teresa I have a 1991 VW trident just like yours and she is called Vicky ….. regarding the wheel arches , if you clean all the mud etc from the arch and spray with wax oil they will last longer , it’s the mud which attracts moisture that makes them corrode ❤️

Thanks for watching iDavid... it's not hard work but I'd say a cover is certainly something you don't want to put on and off on a weekly or even monthly basis, once on, that buggar is staying on for a few months...about 4 months in my case! Thanks for taking the time to comment 🤗

I've been enjoying all your videos recently, Teresa. Thanks for taking the time. Always a fun watch. I am a lone traveller in my t5, but I enjoy the winter months and being out. Might have something to do with the fact I'm still paying it off, so want to feel I'm getting some value from it! It's also my car, so a real workhorse. Currently parked up in the Shropshire Countryside on a calm still evening with the heating on in the van watching YT. It's not a bad life, really.

Hi Andrew... have to say it has to be slightly different for a woman on her own.. those shorter days and dark by 4ish, and when its wet, cold, windy etc... I admit to being a light weight... its just not that much fun for me. But glad you enjoy and use your van daily/all year round and as you say, getting your moneys worth. Thanks for watching Simon. Do you know, I didn't realise that Lefty Loosey and Righty Tighty related to the hand you use... As far as I was concerned I was turning the handle of the spanner towards the left, but I've been told I should have used my left hand and turned inwards, turning handle of spanner to the right! Think I got it now !! However I did try both directions on that nut and it wouldn't shift either way... hoping to get my brother to disconnect it !! Yes, hoping this cover protects it a bit through the Winter, will keep my eye on it though. Thanks for taking the time to comment 🤗

Hi again :) righty tighty lefty loosey refers to which direction you should turn a screw or nut to remove it or tighten it, turn it to the right tightens it, and turn it to the left loosens it, ... unless its a gas bottle :) hope you have a good weekend.

Well I thought that meant turn the spanner to the left ... but evidently it means use the left hand and turn to the right! I live and learn!! I did try that nut both ways... that buggar is on tight, will get my brother to disconnect for me! 🤗

Hope you're looking forward to taking the van away this year. I certainly am...I have a trident too. Have you ever figured out how to put the vertical panel in place at the front of the top bunk? I use the top bunk for storage while travelling and the vertical panel would stop the contents from sliding off when I brake! 🤔

Hi Janice Im not sure what panel you mean... but I do have a panel that just lifts up and stops things sliding from the back to the front in the roof space- and there's a bolt that I slide across and it stays in place. Hi Teresa. Sorry I didn't comment on your IOW videos, but I did enjoy them. Well done on the fabulous cover, should keep the van snug all winter. If you get a chance, do disconnect the battery negative terminal and put something non-conductive between the lug and terminal. When a battery loses its charge for a lengthy period the plates inside get sulphated reducing the battery life and reliability. You undo the lug bolts anti-clockwise. Sad to tell you that Van Rouge is still in the body shop :(

Hi Debbie... thanks ever so much for watching the IoW vids and this one, and taking time to comment... I always respect your comments. What a buggar that Van Rouge is still in the garage.. I guess it's that French layed back attitude to life, so a glass of red or 2 is in order - chill, they'll get it done, though I know how frustrating it is when you're reliant on the skills of others! You want to say "Come on get your arses in gear!!" As for my camper, yes, I'm asking my brother to disconnect the battery, I'll feel happier if he does, saves me jump starting etc in March! Its going to be undercover for about 4 months, and it's only the clock that's drawing from it (unless the leisure battery does even though everything is off?) ... there's no electrical alarm or gadgets going on... and yes... someone explained the 'Left- Loosey ; Right-Tighty" saying... well I thought that meant turn the spanner to the left ... but evidently it means use the left hand and turn to the right! Hi thunderchild - thanks for watching the video. When you say 'condensation' do you mean inside the van? I can't access the interior once the cover is on, but it all looked fine when I removed the cover in Spring this year (2023). It does a great job in preventing green algae around the window rubbers and prevents the usual dust and grime you get when a vehicle is just sat for 6 months. I always put the van away clean, give it a polish etc then put cover on. Personally, I've found it protects my van throughout the winter months. This is the 3rd year I've used the same cover and I'm wondering if I might have to invest in a new one next year. I'm not sure how long they last. It's an all weather, breathable cover, so I'm hoping it will be okay for another year. If you have a camper, then happy travels. Hi Janet - firstly I'm so glad you've found my little channel, just tells me that it IS popping up in places on Google search! Do check out the Playlist which has a folder full of 'campervan' vids, from the rock n roll bed, the portaloo to fitting a wing mirror and gas bottles... there's also a folder with campsite reviews, which is quite popular. Now to answer your question, I really wouldn't like to put my neck on the line and say yes or no, so I recommend you ring CarsCoversLtd based in Bridlington, East Yorkshire - Tel [phone] (between 9am-3pm) who will answer your question. This is the third year I've used this cover and Im wondering if I should have purchased a new one, as Im not sure of their lifespan, and is it going to keep my van dry with this 'continuous' rain fall, not sure its getting a chance to dry out, will be checking it at the weekend. I have found it to be good up to now, it keeps the green algae off the window rubbers etc.. and it stays as clean as It was when I covered it (it's surprising how dirty/dusty it gets uncovered just by sitting in one place for 6 months!). Anyway, give them a ring and see what they say. The cover I have is bespoke to the VW T4 Trident Autosleeper, high top, short wheel based. Get a Chinese diesel heater if you look them up, there are loads of great reviews.Regarding covering up the van, make sure there is plenty of airflow, the only real advantage in covering them up is minimalizing uv damage.If the vehicle has rust around the arches, ensure airflow until it gets repaired.

Thanks for the advice Steven... I'll take a look. My van is petrol and I'm not keen on having a diesel heater on when the van is unattended. Yes... plenty of natural air flow, but I'll check it regularly... its only going to be sat for about 4 months with a cover on, its not the kind of thing you take on and off weekly or even monthly... so no panic. Might be worth fitting a battery isolator switch rather than tightening the battery terminal up also could be safer to isolate the battery while sleeping as the gas
