The campervan essentials we have purchased for our early retirement European winter vanlife trip and honeymoon. These are Campervan accessories and spares to help us survive 4 months doing vanlife in Spain and Morocco.
Thanks to Stephen Wain for the picture of the underside of his 68.
This is just what we have come up with so far, but this is our first big trip, so any advice on what else to get would be welcome.

Wonderful news Nikki 🥳 and thank you for the good preparation list, a lock for the pedals was new item for me 👍 if you haven't already, you might want to have a look at the emission regulations and stickers/registrations in advance 😊

@@badasanaexperiences just got critair sticker just in case we venture near a zone. We’ve also just discovered another basic safety measure from Camper Protect in Germany. We will show it when it comes. Looks really good and is inside chain lock system for cab and sliding door. Just that extra peace of mind if someone forces the doors at night. Our door handles have no holes in to allow us to use a ratchet strap, which would have been the cheap option

Well done on starting your journey. I recommend fitting the chains on a grassy park up much better than struggling in snow/rain. I've used mine many times on event sites and festivals in europe.

Unwind the mains cable fully off the reel before using it, coiled cables get hot and can catch fire 🔥

Another great video, some great tips for travelling abroad, i wouldn't have thought to get snow chains for Spain,but we did pick up a second hand wheel clamp it is a great visual deterrent, so hope you have a fabulous time travelling xx

It’s more getting to Spain as the mountain range covers most of the border with France and they can fine you if you don’t have them. Come over in motorhome to meet us x

i think the law in most eu countries is that over the winter period u must have snow chains or 'winter tyres' , so if u have all terrain type tyres these are suffice [this is the law in Czechia and adjoining countries where i used to live]. Of course snow chains are very handy but since our campervan was weighed at a border crossing and they tried to make us pay a 500 euro fine for being overweight, we have cut back on all but essentials!

They are heavy. How much were they trying to charge you? And which border?

@@OnTheRoadAgain-NikkiandBilly it was the slovakia-hungary border on our way to albania. hungarian customs guided me onto a portable weighing platform, said i was 250kg over and the fine is 2 euro per kg = 500 euro...pleading, begging and some tears from my wife and they eventually waved us through without paying. i googled the subject and it seems its quite common for campervans and esp motorhomes to be weighed in germany as well as other eu countries and not just at borders. They learnt that well fitted out ones usually dont have much spare capacity for cargo and are often over weight! Having said that, during 8 years touring europe every winter for months at a time, we have never been weighed before that Hungary incident.

Suggest you buy some snow socks for front tyres… you might actually use those and so much easier to get on and they work.

We looked on line and while reviews said they were easier to fit they said they weren’t as effective or as robust. We are hopefully only ever going to put them on in an absolute emergency. Although more fiddly we’ve bought a set now more in case we get stopped rather than to use. Fingers crossed it’s a mild winter next year when we come back.

⁠they’re not like snow chains that’s for sure but they have got us around on slushy early mornings in Italy on a few occasions. We nearly divorced trying to put on snow chains … I could have done with those zip ties. 😂😂

Hi, I am following you but don't have your electric cable on the bobit when you are plugging in, it will go up in flames. Cheers

@@meeshamolly hi yep that’s how crap we are. One of our mates told us that too earlier. Thanks for heads up as well. God knows what will happen when we start travelling. :)
