Why I brought my packraft and paddle up to the alpine, was because I was aiming to paddle the glacial lake that was down below the peak, but as you can see it was still mostly ice - so that extra weight in my pack was just for the fun of it, haha.

Damn! beauty shots of the snow weaving in and out of the crevasses. Last time I saw that kind of melt pattern was over the Mendenhall Glacier in Alaska. Great video

Islands in the sky! There's something so Zen about that it's like a sudden awakening. You could have 1M views if only you lived in a van and filmed your dinner 😂 that's the algorithm for ya!

Watching you gives me confidence to try some wilder hikes. Are you ever worried about bears, bushwhacking like that with a dog? Have you encountered one and she's been off leash and reacted? I love hiking with my dog but I do often worry she's just a little hors d'oeuvre running around
@lifeofluke5 ай бұрын
I am not really worried about bears. We have encountered bears while hiking on trails, and even one grizzly, but Nina has never reacted. Usually I spot the bears first, because I have better eyesight and am taller, so I make noise to let the bear know we are nearby. Once the bear knows you are there they generally they move on, and no conflict results. In addition, I'm usually going up high where bears are less likely to frequent. The most common place I'd be on the lookout for bears is along riverbanks and in thick vegetation on valley bottoms. Those spots could be an issue because not being able to see bears until you are right on top of each other, which is a recipe for a bad scenario. Basically you don't want to surprise a bear while in close range.

Hey Luke, great vid again!! I moved to North Vancouver from Manchester England in November and you've inspired to take on some of the hikes from your videos. Do you have any tips for meeting and exploring with like-minded people in the area of Van & Squamish ? Cheers!

One more thing - When you're camping this high above the treeline, is it safe to assume you don't need to worry about having food in your tent with regards to bears?
@hollsee92666 ай бұрын
There is a hiking group on Facebook that goes up to some of these places.
@lifeofluke6 ай бұрын
Thanks, I don't have a lot of tips for meeting like-minded people in the area, but there is a Facebook group called 'Peak Baggers of SWBC' that could be a good option to try. Generally bears are not up this high in the alpine, but that doesn't mean that bears cannot still go up there. It is always good practice to cook and keep all food away from your tent and where you are sleeping.

beautiful and rugged landscape. Is this Alaska? I did some Hiking on the Kenai Peninsula way back in the 1980s?

Nope, but it looks like Alaska, sorta! It's north of Squamish BC. I would love to see some of the beautiful Alaskan mountains and the Kenai Peninsula.
