We took the Kayak with us on a 3 day camping trip in New Hampshire. Our 1st stop was Hubbard Island on the Connecticut River in Claremont.
The boat launch was once the location of the Ashley Ferry boat. Before bridges were everywhere , we used ferries to get a horse and carriage across the river to Vermont.
It was a short paddle down the river before we saw the long narrow 20 acre Island. The campsite was easy to find and we settled in quick. Very cool spot, loved the experience.
The site is made available by the Upper Valley Land Trust. The site is part of the Connecticut River Paddlers Trail. A series of primitive campsites accessed by the river. From Northern New Hampshire all the way to Long Island Sound in Connecticut.
We highly recommend the site! We kept the site cleaner than we found it so please do the same if you visit.

My family and I are purchasing a home not far from here and I’d love to visit this island and perhaps take my kayak camping here. Do you have to contact anyone to use the sight or is it first come first serve?? Thanks and great video..

You will have a great time! Yes the site is first come first serve. We went on a Sunday night so was pretty sure nobody would be there. I don’t know how busy it gets but not a super busy spot I don’t think.

We have read that there is no good access point to the island. Did you have trouble docking your kayak and could you tell us where /which side of the island is best to get to the camp site? Thanks!!

There is great access to the island. Only a very short paddle from the boat launch on Ferry Landing Rd. When you see the Island, stay to the left hand side. The access is a little steep due to bank erosion. It’s right next to the campsite. You can see in our video where I put the kayak. It’s about mid way down the left side. If you go to far and reach the end of the Island. You will see the sign and a trail to the campsite. We had no trouble finding it. It’s a really good time. Don’t forget to bring extra water .
