Camping at Lumo Conservancy - We Ditch the Pajero!

Did we ditch the Pajero for an 80 Series! Nah, just trying out a different offroader. Pajero is still king!
This was a lazy, easy weekend getaway trip to Lumo Conservancy and Taita Hills Wildlife Sanctuary, coming after a tough 9 days, 2400kms trip circumnavigating Lake Turkana. We decide to take it easy at Lumo Conservancy enjoying epic views, game drives, campfire and generally laze around as a way to usher another year of even more epic trips.

Hey guys, This is a great video and a very good series you have. I just started watching your videos last week and enjoying it. I love cars and road trips. My passion is classic cars which I restore as a hobby. I also really like 4X4's and my favourite is the Toyota J100. My Dad used to take my siblings and I on road trips and to game reserves. I stayed at Salt Lick Lodge 45 years ago!! Your videos takes the viewer to amazing locations in our beautiful country Kenya that I haven't been to and dream of visiting. Make sure you take the little ones to as many places as school allows. The trips will create unforgettable memories for them like the ones I have. I just turned 60 and I remember my family safaris but I'm still dreaming of going to newer places. You young guys inspire me to do it. 🙏🏼🙏🏼 Thank you so much for watching and subscribing Shani! Manuals are best. No overheating transmissions unlike automatics. They also allow for engine braking also. The LC is to be the group trips recovery and towing vehicle. The Paj was too kitted and heavy (perfect for trips but not recovery).

Its a little 4x4. The T30 has a locked centre clutch that divides drive in the ratio of 57:43 (front to rear) for serious off-road work or for extreme conditions. Also, once you know your car, you know what is likely to break down and you carry that part with you for emergencies.

Have seen you with a Pajero mostly, but on this trip I noted you are driving a LC 80. Which the two would recommend for a beginer?

Your budget will determine which of these 2 you can get. The 80 is meant to be a group trip recovery and towing vehicle because of its torque and toughness. Its also triple locked. The Pajero (from the way its kitted) is too heavy for such. But its perfect if we did not need to tow or recovery anyone.

It depends on your budget. We use Chinese Comforser brand. They offer value for money. They are very well priced, not noisy like other brands, cheap (easy to replace anywhere far from Nairobi), last long, good grip, and tough. For a mid-size car and also full SUV, we recommend Comforser CF1100 which is more aggressive than CF1000.

Great question. For visibility in dusty and foggy areas, for the guy in front to see how far the guy behind is (when we are in a convoy) so that we can slow down or stop if we cannot see the guy behind, and to be seen by other drivers on the roads.
