tip the center most part of burner is a cone put a 1/4 tsp oil or meth and light when almost out open valve on fuel tank slow till flame hite reaches desired size this is called priming the burner
@WildGingerBruce8 жыл бұрын
+embarado smithing and woodcraft , That makes a lot of sense , the big down side of badly translated instructions . I will defiantly try that....some say let small amount of fuel out light it and then turn on ...but that soots the whole burner up , I prefer your method thanks for the tip , atb Bruce

Pretty Cool! I just used one of these our weekend camp...worked great to cook to pork chops in a cast iron pan...actually burned so hot, I had to turn it down quite a bit to get a slow cook. Thanks for sharing, Lee

Thanks so much for the test!. I used brand name petrol burners for years with the scouts, but they were too expensive for my personal camping trips (>120€ / $). This seems a reasonably priced and suprisingly high quality alternative (less than 40 bucks an aliexpress)

Looks good Bruce, great to have options, I like it versatility. Most have the various types of stoves with different fuels, but this all in one I like that concept. I remember last year at Camp Shaky Christmas meet my Jetboil fuel was to cold & my Coleman 533 saved the day. Keep up the videos Love your relaxed attitude. All the best Spenny.

That's definitely an amazing bit of kit which burns practically anything. Price wise it puts it into the hands of a lot of young people and there's a strong possibility of instructors or D of E assessors insisting on the use of gas by teenagers for safety reasons. Historically Trangia cooksets with meths burners have been in use for D of E expeditions for many years. My advice to young persons is if this stove is permitted to use with gas cylinders on D of E expeditions to take a backup solid fuel stove such as the BCB Firedragon with an ample supply of fuel.

It's good in extreme cold and altitude, where gas or meths can let you down or be difficult to light,... I need to revisit this stove and test its consumption and boil times. But I do love trangias so silent and relaxing, better than listening to a jet engine lol

Hi, if it's anything like my MSR XG-K which I bought new in 1990. It will use more fuel than my Optimus 80 and Climber 123R and probably won't be good at simmering as they're more suited to operating in extreme weather and melting snow. It's butane gas that has issues in cold weather whereas the butane propane mixes are better. During my days as an adult instructor (local cadet unit) they predominantly used the Camping Gaz S200/S200S. These stoves used a pierced cartridge and I am informed that their use is now banned by youth organisations and the D of E scheme. All gas stoves must now use the self sealing cartridge (Screw on Lindal valve type). Approved stoves have the D of E and Scouts logos printed on their boxes. The Trangia is the one which has stood the test of time and now have the ability to operate on gas with a conversion. Being windproof is the one main advantage they have and can be safely operated inside a tent if necessary owing to bad weather conditions. Best wishes=JD.

Impressed with that stove mate! Always been put off by the price of the 'named' branded multifuel stoves before, this is worth a look at for sure! Great job so far on the kukri too! All the best!
@WildGingerBruce8 жыл бұрын
+jediknightofthewoods its very nicely made so there has been no skimping on materials , Ive just gotta decide on what fuel (other than gas) works the best and cleanest ...and also what will perform in the cold thanks for watching atb Bruce

It comes with 2 nozzles, the smaller aperture one is for heavier fuels like kerosene/paraffin and diesel, the bigger apperture one is for gas, white spirit, unleaded petrol. Also, you are meant to let out just a bit of fuel and turn it off, burn that bit of fuel on the cloth in the bottom of the stove to warm up the pipe, then turn back on the fuel supply once the pipe is hot. If you leave the fuel on from the start, it is not pre-heated and will flood it and get a big yellow flame.

I bought one of these about a month ago. I thought that the other jet - in the poly-bag - was just a spare. Having read your comment, I had a further, close look at both. Both mine - the fitted one and the spare - are of similar size. The size of the jet is indicated by a number engraved - very faintly - on the flat surface next to the jet orifice. You'll need a magnifier or strong reading glasses and a torch to see it. Both mine are #30's. I believe (but stand to be corrected) that the larger the number, the smaller the orifice and that, to burn kerosene efficiently, a #36 is required. The instructions actually do imply that a different jet is included but that is not the case with the package I received.

I couldnt record the sky when it got dark but I've always wanted to see what it looks like without light pollution. Suffice to say I almost creamed myself then cried. It was beautiful. I'm a city boy and only recently started getting out and enjoying the woodland and countryside. Can't wait to go out again.

looks like a great stove for the winter. If it had an MSR badge on it, it would cost £100 more and work exactly the same. Sandy

Yeah good idea to have a multifuel burner, reckon you will stick to gas though, so much cleaner, and less puddles of highly flammable fuel around the place, I've found with my Coleman stove if your not ready with a lit flame/lighter etc u will get a massive flare up and possibly a puddle of unburnt fuel. Atb jason
@WildGingerBruce8 жыл бұрын
+grizzly jay yeah ...ive been looking at other vids ..after the fact...and you are suposed to let out a tiny bit of fuel and turn it off , light it so it heats the pipe then slowly open it after a minuet or so Im sure Ill get the hang of it soon atb Bruce

Lots of filing involved in a long blade. Interesting to use leather liners.

Yeah it's should add a bit of shock absorption to the handle, as it's mainly a axe type tool.... Or it could hideously fail and fall off.. It's all a learning curve Atb Bruce

@seeul8rwaynekerr8 жыл бұрын
did you have to change the jet to get it to reliably fire on the meths?
@WildGingerBruce8 жыл бұрын
at the time i didnt realise that i could change the jets because the chinise instructions were so poor. so I didnt change the jet ..but i since then ive heard the more flamable liquids such as petrol need the smaller jet and slow burn fules like parafin need the bigger jet the main problem i had was the fuel in the pipe over the burner need to warm up first before it will burn nicely thanks for watching atb Bruce
@georgebgoode6 жыл бұрын
Actually it is the other way round. Eg. Petrol - large jet: Paraffin/Kerosene - small jet. Petrol vaporizes at a lower temperature than paraffin so can be delivered at a higher rate (via a large jet) and still burn efficiently whereas paraffin needs a slower delivery (restricted by smaller jet) in order to vaporize and burn cleanly.
@georgebgoode6 жыл бұрын
Please see my replies to 'bentang's' and 'stuckintraffic?getabike's' comments regarding jet sizes. Hope it helps.
@WildGingerBruce6 жыл бұрын
If only I could find the other jet I could test it out, it ran ok on the standard jet, with different fuels.. I really should revisit this and try lots of fuels in it to see what happens, thanks for the comments Atb Bruce
@georgebgoode6 жыл бұрын
You are welcome! Oh, and by the way, excellent review. Another hint, although you may well have figured this out by now, is to, once having let a little priming fuel out and lit it, keep the valve closed until the primer dose has almost burned out. While that primer flame is still burning, it is using up air which the main jet requires for a clean burn. If you open the valve too soon, the main jet is starved of air by the primer flame and the resultant, main flame burns rich (smoky and yellow) until the primer flame goes out. This is despite the fact that the fuel coming out of the jet at this point is hot, vaporized and ready to burn cleanly. It just can't because the primer flame is using most of the air it needs.
