Glad you found this gem. It's a favorite among the "locals" of several counties.

I’ve been going to Cook Forest since I was in diapers, I’m now 72 and we spend a week a couple times a year there with the kids and grandkids. Hikes aren’t as long as they used to be but still take the grandkids, as well as canoeing or tubing the Clarion River (one of the most scenic in PA, I think), trail riding at a couple local stables, and even hitting the water slide, miniature golf and GoKarts. Also, the fire tower is a must with the grandkids every trip. What can I say, I’m a cool grandpa!!😁

Our Western PA favorites: Cook Forest, Prince Gallitzin, Ohiopyle, Raccoon Creek and Kinzua Bridge. There are so many great large and small state parks in PA, and there are almost no bad ones. You bring back wonderful memories.

That's very unfortunate to hear about the "longfellow pine" falling. I haven't heard about that elsewhere. I have had the fortune to visit Cook Forest twice and it is a fabulous place, The Forest Cathedral truly is magnificent, now watching this has me longing to return, cant wait to see your hike through the old growth!

Yes, the chippies were prevalent at Worlds end SP last month I was camping there. I gave them a burnt bag of popcorn that disappeared before I woke up the next morning. Nice video of the deer. 53 years? They must really like that park! Some campers at Worlds end have been going since they were kids and are bringing their kids...the tradition continues I guess.

We camped at Cook Forest many times in the late 1950s and early 1960s. The swimming was in a spring-fed pond/lake and even in summer was COLD! Nice hiking. Love the chippies!

Hey Cliff thanks for taking me camping. Nice the neighbors were all so friendly including the furry ones. Chipmunks are naturally friendly, I have a few that come up to me and take peanuts from my hand, load one in each pouch one in mouth and off they go to their home. Deer I think that forage near campsites get used to people but will still keep their distance. I have a few that wait by the feeder I fill everyday. Deer corn just doubled in (from last year) price. 50 lb. is really up. I think That's because, like anything else, the price of diesel to get it to market. 20 lb. bags of wild bird food is up from just two weeks ago. I hope they can get by with less as I now have to do being on a fixed income.

Many memories from my youth. . .cook's forest. . .we had great fun canoeing & tubing on the Clarion River. . .lots of water snakes though. . .we used to do horseback riding over the line in Jefferson County. . .make no mistake you are in bear country. . .if you go up to Allegheny National Forrest for primitive camping, cook early in the day only. . .keep your cooler and all food in Naomi or hang your stuff in trees with parachute cord FAR FROM YOUR TENT. . .some unsolicited advice from a 'seasoned citizen' viewer. . .thanks for bringing back the memories, Cliff.

When we camped there a few years ago we were at a campsite at the back of the campground. We saw plenty of deer at night and in the early morning. They just piled out of the woods and grazed the field behind us. It was wonderful…
@GreggObst2 жыл бұрын
The area you camped on was what I would consider to be more of the family areas of that campground. The next time you are there check out the "Back section" loops where you camp in a forest of giant white pine. The deer are everywhere back there. It's so amazing in that area and it has a much more remote feel to it like you are camping in the thick of it rather than with the weekend warriors. The showers and bathrooms need a little modernization but it still ranks as one of my favorite PA campgrounds overall.

I'm from Erie originally and used to go there all the time! I went to Pitt Titusville. Kinzua area is cool, I was there before and after the railroad bridge got blown down by a tornado. Erie has a lot of 1812 history and the most amazing sunsets in the world if you make it north a little more!

@@nobillclinton He sure would! I used to live just east of Erie along the lakeshore in grape country. I miss the fishing, sunsets, smell of grapes in the fall the most. What I don't miss is the horrible winters and lack of mountains lol. South Central PA is home now

I don’t understand why you don’t bring along a medium sized cooler with 1-2 bags of ice in it to store your leftovers. Just sharing how one can always doctor up anything cooked with additional spices, rice, beans, assorted meats/sausages, potatoes, noodles, veggies, broth, gravy, etc. to be more tasteful. Shame to overindulge or throw away leftovers when you could simply take home and adjust flavorings for another meal. 🤷🏻♀️
