As a beginner, perhaps you may want to consider putting a painter's sheet (clear plastic sheet at abt $1 each) below your tent before you pitch it. This will keep moisture coming from below and keep it clean especially in wet and muddy areas. In colder climate, e.g. in the hills of Malaysia even, it keeps you a little warmer. Next is the tarp above the tent - without it, when the sun shine, it will be too, too hot to be in it. Also it assists during the rain at night by softening the patter on the tent and also the dampness. The other thing is the tent stakes. On sandy ground those stakes provided are hopeless. A strong wind (especially Sumatras during June period, will blow your tent away. Sandy ground requires stakes such as wooden self made 12-15 inches long or the commercial screw type. On hard or very hard ground, I improvise by using BBQ skewers of about 9 inches. These are what I used and perhaps you will find it helpful.
