I have looked for months to see if anyone else has come up with a similar idea for building out a camper with an awning annex like this. I have developed one on my camper using a latter rack that holds my solar panels. Tubes on the ladder rack slide out to form the frame for the awning. So now I can have an entirely new room on the outside of my camper and or a shady rest area. Thanks for sharing your idea
@wally11664 жыл бұрын
Sounds like a great idea maybe you could share it with us sometime
@naturelensinspiration52594 жыл бұрын
@@wally1166I will when I get some photos suitable to share. I used aluminum nesting square tubing two tubes inside the cross beam of the ladder rack. I then used 3/8" x 4" H38 The Original Hitch Pin With The Red Plastisol Coated to secure them in the hole. I can then slide the poles out and use the Hitch pins to attach the poles into a frame for the canvas that creates an attached room to the box trailer camper. One of the areas I go to has high wind and every single year I have lost my canopy poles. I doubt I will ever have that happened again. The trailer is 6 ft wide so I have an extended pole that can go 6 ft so I slide it out 5 ft or so, inside that pole is another square pole that is also 6 ft long, I slide it out 4 to 5 ft and I have about 10 ft extension and then attach that to the 3rd set of poles to create the standing end poles all using the hitch pins to attach the poles and to create various configurations. Instead of having a flat roof I can also create a cat slide style sloping roof because I drilled a hole in the Ladder Rack raised vertical pole which extends about 2 ft higher than the roof of my camper. I can pull the first set of square tubes out and raise the end up to the matching hole slip the Hitch pin in and then slide the inside pole output a hitch pin in it and create a long almost 12 ft slope to the ground and if I want I can raise that end using another set of poles to create a wall side.

Gad, I love you Aussies. Some of you are the most clever and resourceful people I've come across. I'm an American who spent two incredible, amazing, fun years in Australia. Came in to get to Irian Jaya and when I came out, I stayed in Oz, worked my way up the east coast, from Sydney to Cairns bartending in clubs and corner pubs (one was a transvestite piano bar lol). I cannot tell you HOW MUCH I LOVE Australia! My beautiful Aussie boy and I used to go camping up the east cost all the time, at every opportunity, getting there in our boat (he to dive and bring me fresh fish and lobster to cook on the campfire), me to swim in the rain pools and nude sunbathe where no people but us were around) The stars, oh my God the stars out where no city lights are -- looked like spilled milk they were so thick!! Or sometimes on the weekends we'd take our boar and go dive and snorkel the Reef. So many good times. Such an incredibly beautiful, strange, mesmerizing, fun, friendly, astoundingly fun and lovely country. *Love your camp site, mate!! You're the campsite boss in my eyes!* I miss you, Australia!

Instead of 12v water pumps, you could use one of those plastic spray containers commonly used for insecticides or lawn treatments (hand-pump for pressure) instead. The wands work well in the shower (similar to a removable shower head), while the hose minus wand will connect to a sink faucet. The advantage is no battery or charging, with resulting less weight during transport.

..I agree..it gets to the point where you're almost simulating your own home in a natural/pristine environment...and you lose a lot in the translation of ambitious comfiness...give me primitive lifestyle for a memorable camping experience...

Camping comes in all forms tents,swags,caravans,mobile homes etc. we started from the ground in swags then into tents but with free camping comes drunk idiots in cars so camping on the ground in sleeping bags swags becomes dangerous especially with kids purpose of video is to show people camping ideas to make the outdoors more comfortable we never met too many people going back camping after sleeping on the ground
@TwoPlusTwoEqualsFive328 жыл бұрын
wally wheatley It depends really, if you are in a camping ground sleeping in a tent it makes sense that you will have drunk idiots. Go to a national park or state reserve. Tell someone where you are going and camp off the beaten trail. The chances of someone stumbling upon you in the middle of the night is unlikely when they gotta hike through 500 meters of bush in pitch black. Don't camp near trails or roads and you will be safer than any camping spot. I don't have kids and it's understandable if you do camping this way, I would not take children into the middle of the bush.

Its a great setup. But I am very curious out how rain proof the trailer is. As it looks to be just a cage with a tarp on sides. Also it would be good if you did a video on the shade covers, how they lock in with ropes, and how they work in the rain too.Summer time on the east cost of QLD/NSW means rain , even when the weatherman says clear.

I have a 7 x 5 trailer that I intend to turn into a camper. I'm thinking you used builder's plastic on the outside of the cage. My question is.. How did you attach it? I've been thinking about zip ties because a tarp roof would cover any of those tiny holes.
@wally11665 жыл бұрын
Hey mate thanks for your question the canopy on our trailer is custom made by a professional canvas maker which cost $500 at the time its made with PCV canvas front of canopy has a mesh window with kk zippers standard size trailers such as yours can be purchase online or at trailer manufactures. Personally mate I wouldn't bother with builders plastic sheeting leave that kind of stuff to the concretors lol

@@wally1166 I'm gunna have a crack. I got the plastic for nothing so it's worth a try. I'm going to leave a gap above the walls but below the tarp roof. If it works, I'll give you a video link. If it doesn't, then I'll just quietly leave a link to the clip showing the canopy I had to buy. LOL!

Awning rails are bolted into the steel frame on trailer drilling a hole into canvas wont cause a leak when its covered by the awning rail
