We’ve been waiting for the snow to start falling here in the Pacific Northwest, so when we saw a snow storm in the forecast we packed up the teardrop and headed into the mountains. This was a really fun trip with lots of opportunities to test out our gear. Our Slumberjack SJK tarp saved the day, and this was the first time we’ve used it in the snow. Highly recommend!

Another beautiful trip. I think one of those extended reach grippers like the older folks use to grap things might come in handy to position that topper on the tent. And maybe add some para cord to the corners so when positioned you can tie it on to the corner post. I really enjoy your videos

Cascade concrete on the fenders :) I love seeing y'all out camping in conditions like you have. You look well prepared, and appear to have a plan if things go south. We have 'water snakes' along the bottom of both doors to soak up condensation. I also added a separate vent low on the side of the cabin to ensure there was some fresh air getting in. Between that and the MaxFan allowing some heat/air to escape out the top, we don't have too bad a problem except on the windows. Love the drone following the Pisten Bully. Beautiful!

You two definitely win the prize for winter camping! As I commented on your previous vid, I have a rectangular ROAM awning on each side of my teardrop, and taking a page from your book, I have a tarp that I set up similar to what you did in this vid. This combination works well for me, although I have a bit more room for gear fhan you do because I tow with a Gladiator. Regarding the fire-starters; my dad taught me to melt candles in a very shallow pan. Then you lay newspaper cut into strips in the hot wax, and then wrap the newspaper strips around a long stick and let it cool. Depending on how much paper/wax you used, each of these will burn really well for about an hour or longer. You just light one and stick it in your kindling. Never fails to light. I'll spend a couple of hours making a stack of them in the spring and then use a couple each trip.

know it sounds weird, try burning presto type logs in your fire pit. they are cheaper and burn longer. I burn regular wood to make a bed of coals at first, then switch to presto logs. i use them in my firepits and in the wood stove in my 12x12 Alaknak. tip number 2, if you find alot of chunky bark (12"x 18") add them to your fire once established making a cone....keeps fires burning in light rain and its a warm fire.

Awesomeness! Like others, I use dryer lint. But, I stuff egg cartons and pour hot wax all over them. I get a 4 inch flame for 10 minutes out of each egg slot. How do you guys wash your hands post raw meat prep and bathroom with cold temps and small Jerry can? Why don’t you turn heat up past 55 if your propane lasts so long? Do you carry sat phone?
@WheresWiseman
@WheresWiseman 4 ай бұрын
Love that idea!! For cleanliness, we do a lot of prep prior so we don't really have to handle the meat. Use tongs to pull out and cook. We also bring hand sani for the hands. At that cold of temp outside the heater would be kicking on and off every couple minutes so we keep it lower. We're both okay sleeping in cooler temps so 45-50 is perfect for us. The heater is more of a tool to keep us outdoors year round than to keep us as comfortable as home 👍🏻 Appreciate the feedback and questions!!

@@WheresWiseman So is the propex annoyingly loud inside the galley? Would you recommend putting it outside or in a toolbox? Also, do you ever turn off fridge in cold temps to conserve power?
@WheresWiseman
@WheresWiseman 4 ай бұрын
You can definitely hear it but it's more of a white noise. It is mounted outside which really helps 👍🏻 Definitely go for that model. We just leave the fridge on. With the cold temps it most likely won't run anyway. When on standby, it hardly consumes anything at all.

In watching camping in other parts of the country I see guys cutting firewood. I know that cutting wood is not allowed in national parks and state parks. I see that you buy firewood. Are there places where cutting wood is allowed? Looking into an electric chainsaw but not sure it’s practical in the NW. Any thoughts?
@WheresWiseman
@WheresWiseman 3 ай бұрын
Great question! It really depends on where we are going whether we purchase wood or not. If we know it's a state or national park, wilderness area or inclement weather, we always purchase some as backup. However in Washington and probably most areas in the country, you can gather firewood for campfires on managed public land/state/national forests as long as there are no signs stating not to. And of course mind those burn bands. You also never want to transport wood over 10 miles from where you gathered it so never take it with ya 😉 Hope this helped, definitely go for that chainsaw! 🪚
