Nice balance on this video. Scenes, narration, music, etc. Small note on the narration, I could hear a vacuum I think lol I'm still learning how best to do the voice overs myself, but I'm getting better, well I hope. But yeah I really liked how you put thus together, you are improving a lot with the new camera!

My favourite area of the park. Bice lake to Tim river. Met Ralph Bice many years ago and had some nice chats with him. He even signed my book that he wrote Along the Trail. You lucked out on a still Bice Lake. Usually windy by the afternoon
@MySelfReliance8 жыл бұрын
I read his book, interesting man. I really like that area as well, but as you say, I got lucky with the wind for sure.

Beautiful canoe. I'm sure the new one you have is much easier on the back, but gotta love the cedar wood canoes. Thanks for sharing your trips. I keep saying that cause I really enjoy getting to see part of the world I may never get to go to. I know this is an old video, but if you get a chance to answer, do the fish having a slower bite during pollen season there?

The most precious thing you had was: SILENCE. I wish you have let us have that too, not destroyed it by music. It is the silence, the peace, what we need to share with you. Our brain wants to image it is just there. Right there. But how can we imagine that, when we have to listen to music?

Good day, I truly enjoy watching your videos, they are very relaxing and well edited. I was wondering if it's not to much trouble, to help me with a couple of questions that I have regarding Algonquin solo camping. I will be heading up in the third week of May and in the video, you stated the date was 5/24. I noticed you were wearing a bug netting. Were the black flies biting or just being a nuisance. I had read that they usually don't bite for a few days when they arrive, but after 3 - 5 days all hell breaks loose. Also, would you happen to know if you can portage from Vireo lake to Wilkins lake via the outgoing flow located in the southeast part of Vireo to Wilkins lake, located in the northwest part of Wilkins. I'm trying to take a shortcut and avoid portaging from Vireo, to Creepy lake, to Roundbush, to Alsever, to Aylen river, to Wilkins. After watching your video, May seems to be on the quiet side. I'm hoping to get some alone time, some solitude, to decompress and fish in a quiet, non stressful, peaceful lake (the twelve hour ride would be worth it). Which is a rare commodity here in Rhode Island. Any info would be greatly appreciated. Sincerely, Joseph Gaspar

@@MySelfReliance We grew up hauling those Cedar and Canvas/Duralite canoes and Grummans across the park, so to us that was just how much a canoe weighed. Luckily we discovered kevlar in my middle age.

Fantastic video and those unrelenting bugs. The scenery is just mind boggling. I purchased a kayak this year and its my first time ever paddling. Once I get some experience I to want to head to the interior of Algonquin. I just subbed so I don't miss any of your adventures. Its almost like being there with your camera work.
@MySelfReliance8 жыл бұрын
Thanks Steve, I got luckier with the bugs over the last couple of days in Killarney - none to speak of. That's awesome that you're going to trip with a kayak. My wife and I kayak every couple of days during the summer and I really enjoy it too.

Great vid buddy, were you not worried about your tent so close to the fire?
@MySelfReliance8 жыл бұрын
A little, but two things; it's a $25 Canadian Tire tent, and two, the wind was strong from behind the tent, so no sparks at all on the tent. My big jacket, on the other hand, suffered some burn holes. Normally I bivy and that spot would have been perfect with that thick bed of pine needles.

TKS for all your time and effort allowing us to tag along on your journeys .... it's inspiring ! We admire your portaging tricks/tips and are trying to figure out the head strap from your pack that lies under the portage beam from your canoe. Does it not tug on your head? Please explain how this works and if it does make it advantageous. We are always trying different things to make backcountry adventures safer and easier.
@MySelfReliance8 жыл бұрын
Hi Tina. Thanks for your encouragement. The tump line is a camera strap that I hooked onto the side handles of my canoe pack, which then feeds through the carrying strap in the Center of the top of the pack. It transfers some of the pack weight to my neck muscles and really makes a difference on long portages. In the past, most of the weight of a pack and/or canoe was carried this way. I'll make a short updated portaging video to show how it works in more detail.

Very nice video. Really like your wood/canvas canoe; what is it? I have a Stewart River 15.5 ft solo wood/canvas canoe I'm taking to Woodland Caribou in August for an 8 day trip. What camera are you now using?
@MySelfReliance8 жыл бұрын
Thanks Jon. I'm not sure of the brand, but the deck plate looks like the shape of Carrying Place. That would be an amazing trip, I plan to get there some day too. I'm using a Sony action cam on the water and a Canon 80D on shore.

Hey Sean, I see you had you tent setup close to the fire pit. Read a lot of post that said it should be at least 100ft away. Whats your thoughts on that?
@birddogmason98626 жыл бұрын
Can’t say enough about the channel. Couple questions though. During winter operations in the boat, what is your method of shoes and pants with the water and mudr? Also, the name of the bottle you and Joe use for heating water with the fire through center? Thanks.

Beautiful and peaceful, I am from Maine we have preservation and conservation lands and the Allagash wilderness waterway for similar type destinations. Where is Algonquin?
@toad30484 жыл бұрын
Algonquin is in near north Ontario and is a Provincial Park. It is protected Crown Land with a Provincial management. One of Canada's many parks Algonquin is larger than some states and many European countries.

Always wonder why people invite bears into their tent by cooking right beside their tent, and by doing so put the next user of the sire at risk as well. Pretty rookie mistake.
