The wife and I tent camp. In addition to a six person tent we use a screen house to set up our kitchen, eating and relaxing area. That handles the bugs. If rain is forecast I'll put a 13x20 tramp over both tents. Since we are retired our camping is during the weekdays when almost no one is around But of course we aren't doing this full time. As much as we love camping it's still a pleasure to come home between trips.

I do take odoerless garlic to repel sqeeters. It does seem to help. You will also notice that if it's windy, they either don't fly or can't land to bite. Not sure if the wind keeps the deer flys or the horse flys off or not. Sometimes I will use a fan blowing on high outside to stop from getting bit as well. It works. I set it up to blow on me.

black flies till the end of July.............but the U P in the FALL is awesome! I think you would enjoy it much more! Less crowds, the fresh air (can get cold at night though), no bugs, and the color, OH WOW! OH yes, for catfish in the smaller inland lakes of the U P, try at night! After dark, they start biting! FYI............. AND, IF you skip, Pictured Rocks, you'll be sorry, unless you plan on coming back and seeing them in the fall!

We love your channel and enjoy following your story. We camped at a lake in North Dakota last week and were super prepared for mosquitoes. Surprisingly, there were no mosquitoes and no biting flies, but the wood ticks were crazy bad. The locals told us that June is bad for ticks there and the ticks are not so bad beginning in July.

I think that I saw a teeter totter at the playground they have taken most of them out of playgrounds because most injuries occur from them. On kid jumps off while the other slams down to the ground.

We had yellowjackets swarming us at one place we were dispersed camping. I took a ziplock bag with some meat juice that I set on the ground away from our camp. That attracted them away from us to some extent but we still ate in the tent. I'm allergic to stings so we didn't want to chance it. I've been thinking about one of those portable electric zappers for next time.

Had to drive to watch this. No service where we are camping. Enjoyed this video at Kingston Lake. It is a good spot. I do believe it’s the hot heat that brings out the biting bugs. Years ago I visited friends in Minnesota and it has a strong population of Norwegians and Germans. The grocery stores I went into had long refrigerated cases of every kind of sausages I have ever seen that are really good. Also known for wild rice and the salmon in the stores was also amazing. So definitely Kelly needs to hit some in Minnesota. Also backpackers on the AT always complain about northern states and bugs this time of year. They wear the big head nets. Also, nomads I watch talk about unlimited lands and free camping in PNW.
