I was going to say the same. You have to turn a match after you light it, for it to catch properly. Especially the waterproof ones, as they have a thicker wax coating on them to keep them waterproof. Outside he turned them.

Okay so your match theory. Dude I admire you but you can’t light the match inside the tunnel and hold it upwards and expect it to stay alight. Secondly you can’t walk outside light the match and then turn it sideways so it has more burn area. You kinda need to replicate what you did inside on the outside for that to be valid. A flame needs to climb in order to stay alight hence when you did it outside it stayed alight.
