You have done a superb job of drilling down to what you ACTUALLY need to carry. Excellent work. I used to be a religious "First Aid Kit Carrier" but reluctantly I will admit that you are spot on with your first aid philosophy. Any serious injury is going to involve stemming blood loss, splinting or heat removal in the case of a burn. All of this can be done with a tourniquet, shemagh, cordage, T-shirt, sticks and water. It took me a long time to realise that 99% of my First Aid kit carry was only useful for tinkering with completely non-urgent conditions that only made sense if I was the medic on a 3 month trip into the jungle with no medical support. Lets be honest. Most injuries are going to be an annoyance, and even IF they are becoming infected, it will be an issue after a few days, when you are back home with access to antibiotics, hospitals and doctors. You really only need kit that will stop you from imminent death. Not band aids, skin cream and finger splints. I did a training course with a paramedic and he suggested using a T-shirt or rag, to stem blood flow from an arterial bleed. I pointed out it wasnt sterile. He pointed out that nobody gives a shit because bleeding out takes minutes, and hospitals have antibiotics. Schooled.

Honestly, I think this is one of the best outdoors channels on KZbin . I'm so sick of the gear snobs n gear company shills who try to make you feel less if you don't have the most overpriced gear that they, of course, get for FREE. You take the stress out of camping. This is a very impt channel. Oh BTW, great way to use the duct tape for marginal tinder. Wrapping it around is so simple yet it never occurred to me or any you Tube host I've seen when they demonstrate duct tape as a fire starter/extender. Wicked cool Friend. Thanks again.

I see to many influencers today that push the mentality of bringing everything including the kitchen sink, lol. I thought this was perfect, I was watching this thinking I would have carried just about the same gear. The cotton sheet was one item that I was thinking I would have swapped out for a poncho liner (woobie), but then I found myself agreeing with your uses. Please keep up the great work you're doing on this channel, it's informative and very entertaining!

@@redfaux74 lol. I'm on the downside of it myself.....more behind me than ahead of me..... But I really like to make due with as little as I can. Although like you....I want to sleep in comfort. Pads are light and cheap..... I usually carry a thermarest, tyvek, and a piece of reflectix insulation for my bed....and a blow up pillow and fleece blanket. Even with all that my bedroll is only a few pounds....just a little bulky. I wrap it in a compactor bag and strap it to my pack.... I also like to carry a little more food than this fella too.....and a pew pew of some sort. Usually a "double deuce Ruger LG" (YT might get upset if I write the words).
@redfaux743 жыл бұрын
@@fukemnukem1525 - I may copy your list for myself. I have a hard time investing that kind of money unless I'm sure of the performance. And it never happens. Bedding is the least on my list. Arthur in my shoulders and hips but I'm not giving up. My martial arts in my youth is plaguing me today. I want a similar printer and the 44 is the last on my list. Bears are coming to SD, with wolves and we already have mountain lions. I want stopping power with an echo to scare the brothers away.

I like to pack my daybag like an INCH bag: basically everything on the Alone packing list that will fit in a 35 liter backpack.
@mikemarriam3 жыл бұрын
I'd add a large enough piece of black plastic to make a canopy to stand up under. 8 x 10 3mm works well and doesn't add much to the pack. I usually pitch mine in front of my shelter entrance. It keeps the entry area dry and it can make a day long rain shower much more bearable to be able to stand up and stretch if you are stuck in a tent. It also makes changing cloths a lot easier when it's raining and gives you a chance to get out of a sticky raincoat or poncho.

As I used to regularly hunt Feral Pigs on foot alone I always had a good 1st Aid Kit, Lots of water, Signal flare, hunting knife/dagger and my Survival kit with my firearms. It only takes a split second where I live in Northern Australia for a snake, pig or something else to make your day go very badly.

I love how little you carry. I'm working on doing that but I'm not quite that small yet lol.

As far as the shelter, I know the utility of using the para-cord and understand the minimalism. Have you considered the convenience of bungee cord? In the Infantry, we generally carried 5 bungees that allowed us the flexibility and speed to set up a shelter just about anywhere. (Four corners and then one for the hood peak) In a pinch, you could make stakes if you needed. Some of us carried lightweight stakes to increase our shelter building potential. Those bungees had all kinds of alternate uses as well.

Great pack but to minimal for me. I want to eat 3 meals a day. Filter to filter my water. And a tent or hammock with a bug bet and taro. Hats off to you for being so minimal. I have the tarahumara pack. And I can barely make it into a night pack. Little line a 3 day pack. You should look into attaching a tuff possum pouch as a pocket in the back or an Aston pocket . I bought me a tuff possum pouch. Also if you get the chest pack you could hold more gear. Also I love Mora's. But I wouldn't out myself in that situation with anything under at least a companion. But it just shows that you are most likely better at over night hiking than me. I bought the Aston house with a pocket for anything over three nights. Great video I learned quit a bit.

Great content, love your channel !! One thing to say.... Everyone has different needs, requirements needed. After nearly 40 years in the outdoors, in certain conditions you don't need much, and at times a lot( weather, location, group size ,etc ) I personally have 3 different packs always at the ready. I buy my equipment on sale, closeout stores, pawnshops etc. Maybe even a yard sale lol. When m going somewhere I've Never been, I tend to load heavier...just an overnight out in the woods the setup you just showed is great !!! But the greenhorns just starting out, should if they can start in the backyard. Learning how to build camp,what you need. Trying out your gear is good , because a lot of times it's easy to over do it, or you forget things...notes can be taken, so when you get out there BOOM.. camp is done ,fire started ,water located etc.it makes camping so much more fun,when you already got ur sh t together lol. Thanx for the great info, keep up the good work. have a great day !!!

If no one has said it I will. The only thing you need in the woods is … knowledge. The tools are just what you need to use that knowledge. Of course a flask of wild turkey 101 is a big help with all kinds of things. Happy trails.

It's great that you went so light and lean! I can't do light a weight that here in the desert, I have to bring so much water with me. What a treat to have so much water, and water you can drink right out of the ground. So are you just filming with your phone? Any tripod? What about Maggie's food? I'm looking forward to seeing what's in your tiny fishing kit and how you use it.
