Thank you for sharing. We used to drive that way every summer. My relative owned a stamp mill in Unionville. That’s where they crush the rocks to get silver and gold out. On the other side of my family, If you haven’t done it yet, it might be fun to drive the Mormon trail and imagine how it would be on foot. Lots of history there. My relative William Clayton was on the journey and invented the odometer so he could track their progress. I think he fixed the wagons during the day and buried people at night. But he made it and was the clerk of the Brigham Young company and wrote the words to “Come Cone, ye saints”. Thank you for sharing your journey and all these incredible places. ❤

I've driven through Battle Mountain and Winnemuca a couple of times on my trips from Arizona to Washington state. Stopped at a casino in Winnemuca to winabucka. Those are Mormon crickets and they usually infest that area east of you towards Elko during the dry season. I've seen them south near Austin and they literally cover the roads like a blanket.

Passed Winnemucca on July 8th 2015 on a cross country motorcycle trip. By the next town, Mill City I was caught in a storm that was so bad deputy sheriffs shut down the interstate. Hail, like I've never seen, rain and WIND. I was able to go back to Winnemucca when it died down. Sun was out, sprinklers were on, crazy weather. Best thing about Wendover is you can stand in Utah and Nevada at the same time as the state lines run right down in between.
