Fishing in the Bay decades ago, we’d use different rigs for different situations but always with live bait. Off a jetty like that where snags are inevitable, we’d use a float and fish the downwind or down-current side of the jetty. Drifting a live grass shrimp or pile worm off the bottom with a few split shot to hold the bait down and the float to keep it from snagging. Not sure about the bait shops around there anymore but Grass Shrimp was the best and readily available. Pile worms were too but watch out, they bite. We’d typically catch rubber lipped perch, Capazone, and Rockfish, and sometimes flounder. All great eating. Good luck and keep up the cool videos! Miss the Bay Area. 🤙🏼

Some great advice there… thanks Sean! There is a local bait & tackle with a good selection of live bait - I’ll definitely be picking some up for the next fishing trip. Those all sound like great eating and I really hope I’ll be able to make a good catch like that! 🤞

@@WesWherever , Can’t go wrong with live bait anywhere in the world. You spoke about fishing with worms for bluegill and trout. I did the same thing as a kid in Wisconsin. After highschool and moving to the Bay Area, my friends in the Marina showed me how to fish there. Live bait again was the secret. Especially grass shrimp. The trick was to keep them off the bottom so the don’t bury themselves in the mud. Just dangling mid-water, no fish can resist that. Capazone was the prize fish from piers or jetties. They’re like a smaller Ling Cod. In Hawaii, I worked with a bunch of fishermen and trolled around the islands catching huge Tuna, Marlin, and other pelagic species and part of the most successful techniques was to catch smaller live baitfish we could throw into a school that drove the bigger fish nuts and start a feeding frenzy. Live bait my friend. Works everywhere when nothing else will. Good luck. Looking forward to your first catch and cook in the Bay. 🤙🏼

High low double rig hooks just like for blue gills using pieces of pile worms should get some nice perch or rock fish.

You could try a large float with a weight and your bait and cast with the wind, it's just what I might do because of all the rocks.
@WesWherever10 ай бұрын
Thanks, I will give that a try!

Love all the videos! If bigger baits on bigger hooks don’t work, I always try to downsize and start throwing smaller hooks and smaller cuts of shrimp and squid. Also, when breaking off a snagged line, just pull on the line until it breaks off at the knot/hook or weight , rather than cutting where you’re standing, that way the line isn’t left to tangle and litter the ocean, and you might get some of your tackle back👍 saw you catch the striper on the Bay island! Looks like you’re making progress! You’ve added to my must do bucket list trips now!🎣🎣🤙🤙

Thanks bro, really glad you’ve been enjoying them!! 🫡 Yeah I was in saltwater in this one, but recently was doing some bass fishing in Pennsylvania and was trying out a jig. About to start making my way through New England though, so maybe I’ll give them a try on the coast there. Just can get expensive to buy a fishing license for every state, especially if it’s just for one day. But it would be worth it if it means catching some fresh dinner!! 😋

I know where that is you love alameda and the estuary in these last few videos. They say you should only eat two meals of bay fish in a month. they say especially from larger seabass. This because of the heavy metals that have concentrated in the bay from all the mercury used in processing gold ore and also from the hydraulic mining where they would just blast down hills with powerful water jets and release natural mercury. plus the heavy industrial business that dumped there waste in the bay. The bay is getting cleaner but especially in the port area they are alway dreging releasing older layers of sediment. So health wise maybe lucky you did not catch any fish
@454545george5 ай бұрын
Just a question. You appear to be right handed? Just cast on your strong side for a better cast. If you were on a boat with somebody, you might need to cast across your body. Other than that, just go fishing, you'll get it.
