Great idea. I had a super stretchy pillow cover which I converted to a drawstring bag by having a small diameter shock cord sewn in (thanks mum!). It slides over the end of the sleeping pad and I simply slide in the Aeros and any extra clothes to add any needed height. Adjusting the amount of air in the mattress also made a massive difference to comfort and neck pain.

Ooh interesting idea to play with the inflation level once the desired height is achieved!

Zenbivy has a new pillow this year which is more or less exactly what you’re trying to accomplish, only with much less weight. You might want to take a look at it. The problem I have with stuffing my pillow with extra clothes is…why would I be bringing extra clothes? That works sometimes of course, but if it’s cold and I need to wear my puffy jacket when I sleeping i lose my comfortable pillow. The double pillow idea seems fine, but those foam pillows are crazy heavy. I haven’t tried yet but the new zenbivy pillow looks like it might be a solid option for side sleepers without so much extra weight.

Ooh those do look pretty nice! And not a bad price tag either, especially compared to buying two pillows. Might have to try it out!

Yes! I got a Nemo Fillo. It's VERY comfy, but it wasn't tall enough for this side sleeper. I stuff my down jacking under the air bladder inside the pillow case. Beautiful pairing!!
@DadCamps9 ай бұрын
Perfect! Didn’t know those had enough room for that!

This is great! I do something similar with my Nemo Fillo, in that for backpacking trips I remove the memory foam (the weight is actually significant) and instead stuff my down jacket inside on top of the air bladder. Being in the Northwest as well I find I always bring my down jacket. The total loft is probably not quite as high as your final solution, but it works for me. Straps hold it to the pad. I still like the Fillo's foam for other applications, as I think it's comfortable, but If I had thought of your solution before I bought the Fillo I think I would have done what you did. As you say, the problem with strapping the pillow to the pad is that I would like to move it askew to tuck it into my chin more, as I turn from side to side. Good work! edit: Now that I think of it, there must be something I can add to the bottom of the pillow to keep it from slipping, like a couple pieces of non-slip cabinet liner, or dots of silicone, or something.

This is good. I do something similar. I have a small pillowcase. Cotton. It feels good against the face. And I sewed an elastic band on the pillow case to stretch around my mattres. And I use the Nemo filo with my down jacket. I always take a down jacket lol.

Hmm, might work. Living in Norway, I have basically only wool buffs, but I'll try to dig out one of the old "ordinary" ones. Will also try to take a peace of bungee cord, slip it between the down jacket and pillow and arround sleeping mat to prevent pillow from moving.

how do you keep it from sliding off your pad?
@DadCamps2 ай бұрын
Well the buff helps alot with that, not as slick. But I also got a Long version of my sleeping bag and that give me enough room to fit the pillow inside the hood to use it like a pillow barn.

Aeros is soft enough, but not tall enough. Don't carry buff, puffy or Thermarest pillow either. Do carry a clothes bag. Zpacks clothes bag with fleece when inside-out. Fleece-pillow stays put and Aeros on top of fleece also stays put. So while your idea seems ok, it removes the comfort-saddle of the Aeros, shrinks its effective head resting area and requires extra weight. Zpacks method is much more convenient (requiring no fiddling with stuffing buffs), adds no items this author isn't carrying anyway and adds little or no weight (unless the fleece bag is heavier than a person's clothes-bag, which is possible, but unlikely.).

I love how small and light your hack is, it's stuff you are taking anyway. I have the same issue being a side sleeper. My hack is heavier and bulkier but I can live with it, what do you think... kzbin.info/www/bejne/rWS4k6xmnbNmpaMsi=8JZWC6VjtexT4Nd9
