#rollup - Thanks for sharing your chilly night out, pairing up the sleeping bags is a cracking idea! 😁

Your homemade down bag, I would put an item of clothing in it and use it as a pillow. 🤔🤔
@SussexOutdoors2 жыл бұрын
I was actually thinking of leaving it empty and using it as a pillow topper instead of using it for my electronics... I may try that next time! 👍👍

#rollup. Another great video, no pretentious kit or equipment but down to earth basic wild camping. Great choice of kit, love your use of the two doss bags and the re-use of the old down jacket.

Thanks! I do like making my own kit. Makes me happy when I'm out and something I've knocked together works! (I now need to find a use for the rest of the down though... That bag was half a sleeves-worth, I've still got loads left!) 👍

Just been looking through your vids and realised I hadn't seen this one. Good one James! Sorry my days of winter camping are over. but certainly not forgotten. 400 subs coming soon???
@SussexOutdoors2 жыл бұрын
Don't worry, between the pair of us, we've got memories a-plenty! (I still have trouble believing we camped in - 15 on the side of a hill in snow in Switzerland, in a canvas tent... But I remember it vividly!) The rate it's going, I don't think I'll be that far away from 400 subs by the summer... Just remember, I'm not doing this for the subs at the end of the day, just to let people come along for the ride! Cheers, James 💚🙏

Thank you! It really was cosier than it looked (it's a shame warmth doesn't transmit so well!) even I was surprised as to just how warm I was using that setup... Will be using that again! (I'm kind of hoping it gets colder so I can try and find the limits of my current gear!) 🙏 💚

You are so clever being able to make the rollup. Hey yeah I'm for the giveaway. I'm a longstanding subber too. So... #rollup Nice video there mate, thanks for another good one. Cheers :) Warren

Warren, I was watching your videos even before I started making my own. Between yourself, Mr CLB, That Bloke In The Woods and some guy Andy from Kent that is Surviving (apparently) have basically forged what I do now... Lockdown put a lot of things into perspective for me, with so much free time outside of work, watching your channels got my mind out of the rut it was in. Not only did I get my camping gear out, I took the liberty of getting my sewing machine out, and actually worked out how to use it (apart from a standard straight stitch!) I can only put this type of idea in mind - and fashion it, due to the ideas and inspirations from yourself and others that broadened my horizons. You've helped in getting me where I am now (with the channel, my re-discovery of the outdoors, and the making), and I thank you for that! 🙏💚

Thank you for the kind words! I'm not doing this for the subscribers, as I mentioned, but I will say its reassuring to get comments like this one, as it let's me know that other people enjoy seeing my experiences from (what I hope) is an enjoyable point of view... I'm just happy to be able to make these little windows into my outings and let others enjoy it too. Cheers! 🙏💚

hi there , i really enjoy your video , this one and the others , i have a question for you ... is your fire box is inside of your plow point shelter or how fare is it of your Bivi bag? again thank you and enjoy each time you will go out and share your experience with us .... Sincerely yours Luc from South of France !!!
@SussexOutdoors Жыл бұрын
Hi Luc, thank you so much for following along with my little outings, I'm glad you enjoy! With regard to the firebox placement, it is all down to how high you fix the point end of the tarp. For this video, the tip of the tarp was as high as I am tall (just short of 2 metres) so for this camp, I had the firebox pretty much in line vertically with the point of the tarp, which was about 1.5m away from my bivy bag. I did this as I had checked the weather forecast, and knew there was to be no strong winds. In general practice, try to keep it at the rule of 2 metres... 2 metres from anything horizontal, and 2 metres from anything above. This will give enough room (again, wind dependant) between the fire and your equipment, that there will less chance of sparks traveling the distance while still hot enough to damage/catch fire... It's only a rule of thumb, but it's a good basis to work from when you're planning your camp. Hope this helps you and your future outings. 👍🏻 All the best. James
