Very refreshing watching you as an Irish descendant in Australia (hot here). Every time you have a tea and biscuits, I also have to go make a brew. A lot of camping channels I watch drink beer when they go out, and I don't drink, so your obsession with tea and biscuits is awesome to me

We have another storm blowing in over Ireland today and it is not warm 😄 Even if I did drink I don't think I'd want to carry the weight of a few cans. For that reason alone I don't see the appeal

Hillebergs handle wind well. Having headtorch to hand with batteries installed is good practice. Take several spare gloves and W/P overmitts. The 1/2 gloves with mitt pullover work well. Just had 3 nights camped on 3rd highest mtn in Australia - in a sheltered saddle with water nearby. Single pole Silnylon tent made in 2008. The summits are dry and windy. Around 6-18C. Got dehydrated going in + mild gastro, so spent 3rd day resting and hydrating in the tent under DIY Tyvek shade tarp. Relentless sun and UV. Didn't get out except to set up and adjust noisy tarp & fetch H2O. Cool enough to put bag over me until midday. Bailed out day 4 in a gruelling epic, mainly downhill, but I performed better than expected. Conclusion: Pack was too heavy and I was not ruthless enough shedding weight.
@RamblingOnКүн бұрын
That's one camping trip you won't forget in a hurry. Those are the ones we learn most from, the ones that go arse ways. I once did an 80km hike over a few days and got severely dehydrated because I brought a crappy water filter and didn't have the know how to fix the situation.

Great video, and a very positive attitude too. The thing I've learnt with the headtorch is keep it in the hip pocket, then as light starts to fade have it around your neck for quick access if the fingers get cold, stops the faffing trying to unzip hip pocket. Every camp is different, I have a select few items that come on every camp, these are your star pieces of equipment.

Great wee camp, Jason. Got a coupla questions for ya, if you don't mind. With respect to the Snugpak tent boots (I also have these), how do you find them size wise? For me they're way too big. I got the large ones according to the provided sizing info, but they were huge. So then ordered the mediums, and they're still too big. What's your own experience? Do the softie overtrousers pack down small? I have the NatureHike down trousers and they pack away almost to nothing. I wonder how yours would compare.
@RamblingOn4 күн бұрын
First time using them but they're quite big and one came off in the night even though I synched down the cord. I reckon there's better booties out there. The softie trousers pack down to about the size of a 1 litre nalgene and the large size weighs about 500g. I just pack it in with my other layers but I think for next years winter summit camps I'll try get a down pair just to save some weight. The softies are very good though and very robust

Excellent Jason 👌. I wish I was brave enough to do the extreme weather overnights but I'm 65 and just pleased to still be camping. I also have a face like a roof tilers nail bag so will not be taking recording equipment any time soon 😂😂😂. Thanks for 2024 and I'm looking forward to your work in 2025.👍 😂. Regards from Jamie from Glasgow. 😂😂❤

🤣 Cheers for the laugh, I don't intentionally go out in bad weather I just have very limited opportunities to get out so good weather is optional 🙂 I'm sure you know what I'm talking about being from Scotland, I'd really love to do the Cape Wrath trail. There's plenty more videos on the way, hopefully some with half decent weather 🤞 Happy new year to you and your family, thank you for being here🍀

Hey, thanks as usual. Awesome video. In regards to gloves maybe you should give a Showa Temres 282 a try. A lot of hardcore hikers/mountaineers use those instead of crazy expensive gore tex gloves. They are completely waterproof and breathable with a lovely cozy insulation (perfect for awful/wet/slippery conditions). Just make sure you go for size larger than your typical glove size as these run small. I love these. A lot of reviews on youtube.

The very next day I ordered three pairs of gloves 🤣 I went a bit over board but a day or two after I saw a guy using those Showa gloves and only today I saw a reel of a mountian rescue and here was the guy wearing blue gloves... Showa's I'd imagine. Thanks a million for the tip, I'll have to get a pair

I haven’t watched this video yet. I just came to say that I haven’t received any notifications for your page the last couple months. I am subscribed and have clicked the bell. Your page doesn’t even show on daily uploads or in subscriptions. I had to come looking for content. Not your fault, just want to make it known. About to watch and enjoy another ramblin video. Love from the US.

Oh well that's not good. I honestly don't know what's happening there. I've noticed a few issues with KZbin like comments not showing up until weeks later and all sorts. I don't even know what to suggest to you. Sorry you missed out on the previous videos when they were uploaded. I hope you enjoy this one 🤞🍀
