Thank you. The detail you provided about the minimum number of cups of water solved the problem I was having with weak coffee when attempting to use my Coleman the first couple times. Excellent information and review.

Measuring 1/8 tsp. ... . I use 4-1/4 of measurements for 12 cup coffee . = 3/4 cup of grounds for 12 cup. Medium roast 1850 coffee brand. Great flavor. Brew approx. 11 mins . Cowboy Kent Rogers. Demos. Coffee on wood burner . Preseasons his unit . And campfire suggests to spray unit vegetable oil to wipe easily the campfire flames , off the unit. We like our new unit.

@@CampingGuidance Sipping my 2nd cup right now. Honestly, it tastes better than I thought it would. I figured there'd be a couple "fails" before it was palatable. The first thing I need to fix though, is the Maxwell House I have on hand is too fine of a grind. It totally clogs the tiny holes and fills the entire cup. Before I get different coffee, I might try using a filter, as that might help it disperse and not clog it up. Good flavor though.

@@bobjackson7516 Thanks for the update Bob! I'm really glad that you like how it tastes! 😊 First time I used a percolator I thought the same thing too haha. Didn't think it would taste as palatable as it is. And I think a filter would definitely help! If it doesn't, a coarser ground (like what I used) is definitely recommended 😊

@@CampingGuidance Ok, sooo.... I just finished drinking the entire pot! haha I used three heaps (1/8 cup x 3) of Maxwell House and I DID use a filter. It was MUCH MUCH better. I also let it boil to the point it was a bit darker than I did the first time. THANK YOU for the video and advice!!

@@bobjackson7516 Oh wow the entire pot? That's A LOT of coffee! I think I'd be bouncing off the walls if I did that hahaha 😆 I'm really glad that the filter helped! I was a little worried it wouldn't cos I've never experimented with very fine grounds. But I'm glad to hear that! Thank YOU so much for your time and your updates too! I really appreciate it Bob! 🥰

the "cup" measurement is explained on the coletti website: "Believe it or not, the industry standard for a cup of coffee is about 5 ounces (I know, we were shocked too!). This standard originated in Europe and is used universally in the coffee industry. To avoid confusion, we adopted this convention. Therefore, our 9-cup percolator makes 45oz of coffee and the 12-cup percolator makes 60oz."
@CampingGuidance
@CampingGuidance 2 жыл бұрын
@Murtagh653 Thanks for the input! I believe both Coletti and GSI explains this, but they rest didn't so I just decided to take each cup to be 6 ounces hahaha. The 5-ounce cup measurement is definitely good to know though! Thanks for reminding me 😊

My coleman is filled, 64 oz and has never boiled over. I use a gas stove & the handle has never been too hot either. I dont use smaller amounts. Generic replacement knobs (13/16th one) are about $6 on amazon. But I do prefer my farberware electrics because the basket & stem are better designed.

@Bunnies4wool Hey there thank you so much for sharing about your experience! Hmm that's interesting, maybe I should have used low heat instead of medium low heat. And thanks for the tip on the generic replacement knobs, really appreciate it :) I do prefer my Farberware to the Coleman as well (although mine isn't electric).

Thank you! Lots of good information. Howev er I would also love to know which percolators use a plastic perking dome, and it never says. They used to all be glass, of course. I think the camp perc one with the blue enamaelware finish uses a glass perk dome but I don't know.
@CampingGuidance
@CampingGuidance 2 жыл бұрын
@M West You're most welcome! This Coleman percolator has a perk dome made of glass, and it's thick glass too :) I think I went through that in the Quality section if you're interested. :) I'm not sure about the enamel percolator though because I don't have it. Hope this helps! Please feel free to let me know if you have more questions!

The Coleman is a good. The materials are lead free. Markings can sometimes contain lead. You can use the Coletti knob, for the Coleman percolator. My Coleman knob broke, so used the knob from my Coletti. Coletti do make replacement percolator knobs that will fit the Coleman and other percolator

@CampingGuidance Thank you. My favourite coffee maker. I even use my Coleman at home, on the stove. But 12 cups is too much to make at one go for just me. No one else drinks coffee at home. So I use the left- overs to water the plants. But might just store the brewed coffee in a glass jar and just reheat the coffee. I drink tea more. I like to put ceylon cinnamon in the basket, or in the percolator pot, and roasted chicory root in the basket, with the coffee grounds. I sometimes like to make a ginger based coffee. Have yet to do that in the Coleman. If you add just a cardamom pod in the basket with the coffee, you will have a nice little kick. Use only ceylon cinnamon. True cinnamon better for you. The other types? Not too good for you, if too much is used

@@CallOutToJesus_Romans10_13 Yeah I know right! The Coleman isn't a bad percolator, but 12 cups is just insaneeee so I never even use mine. A 3-cup from GSI suits me much better haha. Wow you're definitely a coffee expert, thanks so much for all the inputs 🤩
