@@michaelpupin Hi Michael! Thank you so much and I'm really glad that you like the test videos! If I understand your question correctly, I think the answer should be yes! I've used the Fresh and Black from Decathlon and I have the review on this channel. But the 2 Seconds Tent I reviewed is definitely not going to be suitable for you cos it's pretty small (only 2P and 3P sizes). Hmm I don't think I've reviewed tents as big as what you're describing, with 2 or 3 sleeping rooms. I think that's easily a 12P tent and up. I think Coleman and Ozark Trail have those types of tents, but I wouldn't count on them being top of the line kind of quality. You can check those out though! 😊

I decided to go with the REI Base Camp. Guess what?! They've discontinued it! I've looked everywhere. I called the main headquarters and nobody could tell me why. I found one on Marketplace - but I'd second in line. Someone accidentally got two and is selling the second one - a six-person, never opened - for $250. I can't imagine the other person wouldn't take it. :-( Thanks for asking @@CampingGuidance

Oh yeah I'm so sorry about that Dee, I was really disappointed to find out about them discontinuing the Base Camp too :( When do you need the tent by? I recently upgraded from a Coleman Sundome 4P to 6P tent. The 4P was still fine after many years of camping but the 6P has a bit more space for a solo camper. It may not be the best but works for me when it comes to space for 1 person, ease of setup, small size when packed, good weather/wind protection and hard to beat for under $100. Amazing review as always and must have taken lot of time and work, including the editing. Your previous review of the Sundome tent made me decide to get another Sundome. Thank you!

Another well done and informative video. The rain test reminded me of the hydrostatic head (HH) ratings published by some brands of their tents. That rating means it takes certain pressure to "force" water through the material. This may not be very relevant for the canopy or fly, unless there is a very strong wind that acts as a force on the water. However, I think this rating has practical implication for the floor. For example, the floor of the Gazelle T4 Plus has an insane 5000 mm rating. In a YT video in which the camper was caught in heavy rain fall and the camp site was flooded, he was walking (i.e. asserting force on the water) in the Gazelle tent and there was no leakage through the floor material. The floor of the Wawona 6 has a 1500 mm rating, which is not bad. I wonder if it would or would not leak had you walked inside it when your yard was flooded.
@CampingGuidance Жыл бұрын
@Chomp Thank you so much as always! Really appreciate your constant support and comments on my videos, they mean a lot 😊 Oh wow I never knew about the practical implications about the flooring! I just thought that the higher the HH ratings, the longer the tents would be able to stay dry under constant pouring rain. So, I thought that the Wawona would have stayed dry for longer with a higher HH rating. I'm probably wrong about that then, am I? But thank you so much for letting me know! Your insights are so thoughtful 😊 The 1,500mm is definitely a lot lower than 5,000mm, but sadly I don't think I walked around it much while it was flooded! There was still water underneath when I checked in on the tent after, but exactly how much water was underneath I didn't take note! (Sadly.) It didn't leak though so it probably wasn't too much. But next time I'll definitely take note! 😊

I have the Wawona. You are correct in the spaciousness. It does not hold 6 people and if you use a queen size mattress, you are only getting one in it. With two people setting up the tent, it goes much faster setting up and taking down. My one other thing that you do not mention on this tent or any other is the lack of reflective guy ropes. There are a lot of tents that have reflective strips woven into the guy ropes. After dark it is really easy to trip over a guy rope. I wish you would reference if the tent has these in your future reviews. Otherwise your reviews are spot on and your set up instructions are the best I have ever seen.

Thank you so much for sharing your tent reviews. Like others here have stated, I’ve never seen such helpful reviews for any products anywhere on KZbin. I’m testing out the Big Agnes Bunk House 8 in the backyard right now. I’ve run into an issue, and couldn’t think of anyone else who might be able to help me more than you, given your extensive experience with tents. I have the rain fly on the tent and it’s raining quite hard. The rainfly and tent and are fully staked out and guyed out. I’m not in the tent myself as I’m testing it. I’ve just set it up and I wanted to observe how it was doing in the rain. I went into the tent and the whole floor is damp. When I walk inside the tent, my socks get wet, and when I run my hand along the floor I clearly see water glistening on my hand. It doesn’t seem as though the rainfly is leaking anywhere, as the ceiling of the inner tent looks dry to me. And it doesn’t seem as though water is coming in from the ground at any particular location because I’m not seeing a puddle or anything like that. I don’t have that much experience with tents, but it seems to me like it’s condensation rather than the rain getting in. Does it seem that way to you? Is it normal to have condensation like that or do you think it might be a problem particular to the Big Agnes Bunk House 8. The rainfly has no vents. I don’t know if that could be contributing to it. I’d appreciate your sharing any thoughts you have about it. Thanks again for your amazing reviews!
@CampingGuidance11 ай бұрын
Hey Tim! Thank you so much for your kind words! It really means a lot to me that you like my reviews 🥰 Hmm I find it strange too that the tent is so wet even though the rainfly and flooring isn't leaking. Can I just trouble you to check the seams of the tent? Check that all of them are factory taped and not leaking in any water. A single un-taped seam can cause a lot of leakage in heavy rain. Also, could you help me check if it's just the floor that's wet? Or is there any other part (walls, ceiling) that might be wet too? Running your hand on every part might help with this 😊 If that's not the problem then I guess that it's condensation, though I find it strange that there's so much condensation when there's no one using the tent at the moment. Do you have anything in your tent that might be damp and evaporation might be causing some water to get into your tent? If not, try to see if you can leave any windows open for better airflow, and open up any part of the rainfly for better ventilation too (without letting in the rain).
@timlast373711 ай бұрын
Thanks for being willing to problem-solve with me! After I wrote to you, it rained extremely hard for hours and hours. When I went into the tent after that heavy rain, the tent floor was bone-dry, along with the ceiling of the inner tent and the walls! So, it must have been condensation, even though I wasn’t in the tent and there was nothing in the tent that could be contributing to the condensation. The tent was completely empty. I had a thought regarding the cause of the condensation, which was only on the tent floor, and not at all on the walls or the ceiling of the inner tent (it’s a double-wall tent). We had been having cold weather for a week or two. So, the ground must have become quite cold. Then all of a sudden just as I was testing the tent, the temperatures went way up and it became extremely humid as the rain started. I wonder if the contact between that warm, humid air, and the cold ground could have caused condensation on the tent floor. As the heavier rain came, the temperatures started to drop quite a bit. Perhaps once that started to happen, there was no longer that unusually warm, humid air coming in contact with the wet ground, and the condensation stopped. I don’t know if that would explain it or not. It was so interesting, though, to see how the tent floor was a little damp after a couple of hours of light rain, and then it became bone-dry after hours and hours of heavy rain. It could have just been the result of unusual environmental circumstances - ground that had become very cold coming into contact with air that had suddenly become very warm and humid. Based on how well the Bunk House did in the rain for me yesterday and today, I would highly recommend it. I’m hoping you’ll get a chance to check it out and review it some time. Big Agnes makes a 4 and and a 6 person version of the Bunk House as well. Thanks again for such a thoughtful reply to my concern.

@@timlast3737 Hey Tim! Thanks for the reply and the update! The temperature change is definitely a big reason as to why there's condensation! I didn't mention it cos I assumed it would have been winter over there and the temperatures would just have been really cold all the way hahaah 😅 It's only ever summer where I am so there's no big fluctuation in temperatures where I am, so I have little experience with that 😅 If such big temp fluctuations happen, try to open as many windows as possible for more ventilation if possible. And hey it was my pleasure! 🥰 I was actually really interested in how the Bunk House would perform cos that's on my to-buy list for the future! Not the near future though, I'm broke right now so I'm gonna pivot and buy less expensive gear to test 😅
@timlast373711 ай бұрын
Thanks for the suggestion of getting as much ventilation as possible without letting in the rain. Yes, the Bunk House performed flawlessly in the rain. So far, I’m really impressed with the tent. The only things I don’t like are that the windows and doors only open half-way. I’m sure there’s a reason Big Agnes did that, but I definitely don’t like it. I can understand needing to focus on less expensive gear right now. Camping and hiking gear is so expensive! I’m hoping you will get more and more financial support on account of your amazing reviews. I plan to check back now and then on your KZbin channel to see what gear you have reviewed and hopefully to follow your links to buy gear so that I can support you. It would be a joy for me to do so.

Not sure if this is possible but it would be great for Canadian campers to see some decent reviews of products from MEC which is kind of the REI of Canada. In particular they have a Cabin 2.0 Tent which when you add the vestibule is very similar to the Wawona 6. However the Mec vestibule has a mesh layer as well as skirt at the bottom and the front panel can be set up as a canopy. The tent can also be set up with full fly without the vestibule. Water proof rating is 2000 for fly and 5000 for floor. Unfortunately ther are no really decent reviews ( by that I mean the calibre of yours) to be found .They are not cheap so a good review would be very useful to us here in Canada. Their Base Camper tent is also pretty good looking as well and is also not cheap but less than the Cabin 2.0. Thanks and keep up the great reviews.

Hi Patrick! Thank you so much for your comment and the suggestion! 😊 I checked out the MEC Cabin 2.0 - it looks great! I love how it's possible to set it up without the vestibule, but that also means a little bit of added costs. I'm back in the market for a good tent. I've looked at so many! I'll be 74 in Sept so I need a great tent. (was hotel and rental camper camping the last 4 years but that's very costly!) I looked at the one you like but it has some cons I don't like. I liked her review of the rei Basecamp 6. Have you looked at both? Why did you decide on the one you got? BTW I looked at the wawona 4, not the 6.it's too big of a footprint. I camp in it alone. The rest of the family shares the site so they need the space. Both my kids' families have the wawona 6. But the 4 doesn't have a vestibule like the rei.
@Duckmanloren Жыл бұрын
@@kberken I don't know what cons you are thinking it has? I can't find any cons what so ever. That is one of the reasons I picked this tent along with you can stand up in it, you can put a full queen size mattress in it. The vestibule is the best on the market, find another one that is better for this price point and size? The water proofing out performs any tent I have ever had or Seen. I liked the size for me it's perfect for just me or my wife and I along with our gear with room to spare. It doesn't sweat that is a huge deal. Great ventilation. Also North Face warranty is untouchable. I paid 170.00 U.S. for mine but I would pay full price if I had to. You need to watch her other video on the tent as well as all her other individual videos on tents and then rewatch this one and the one where it went thru a rain storm. Should choose this tent in my opinion.

Fantastic video. I always wonder whether it would be possible with these tall tents, especially those with that umbrella poles, to somehow throw the rainfly over before erecting it. Sounds easier, but might be more struggle in practice. Myself, I love tunnel tents. What drives me nuts a little is that most carrybags are...tightly dimensioned. I find it always difficult to store a tent away. If possible, I opted to spread out the components. Which can be risky, because if you forget e.g. the rainfly or tent stakes (first is catastrophic, you can perhaps purchase spare stakes in a pinch) at home, your camping trip might be over.

The Cliff Notes version is that I liked a lot of things about it, but after one weekend of rainy weather camping I decided that it was not for me because I found that trying to get in and out through that style of vestibule was really frustrating. I just picked up a Wawona 6 instead.

The Wonderland looks like a great choice, but the bent poles keep me from considering it. I’m sold on the Wawona 6-due to the Wawona’s great taping job, the quality of the poles, and creative layout (genius vestibule!).

This is gonna be one of the best review videos I’ve ever seen. Quick question for you. I’ve really been thinking about getting the north face, Wawona tent, but a lot of people say that the all mash door and the large gap to the ground for the vestibule make it very cold/drafty. Do you agree with this? Or do you think it’s not that big of a problem?
@CampingGuidance8 ай бұрын
Hey Colin! Thank you! I'm really glad you liked the review 🥰 Ah yeah the mesh door is great for me cos it's only ever summer where I am. But if you're going to be camping in colder weather I don't think it would be for you. The mesh can't be covered up at all, and no matter what I did, the vestibule doesn't extend all the way down to the ground, and there'll still be gaps at the bottom. I've never camped in colder weather, but that's just my suspicion.
@colchilibeck8 ай бұрын
Thank you so much for your reply! Being in Canada, it can get below zero Celsius most of the year. It’s too bad the door doesn’t zip all the way up and that the vestibule walls don’t come closer to the ground. I’m sure this tent works well for people here, but with my young kids, I could see it being a potential issue. Thank you again for your reply!
@CampingGuidance8 ай бұрын
@@colchilibeck Thank you for your reply too Colin! 🥰 Oh man I didn't realize it would be so cold during most of the year. Even in spring and fall it's still below zero? 🤯 (Sorry if that's a dumb question, but I have never lived in any season other than summer cos that's the only weather I have) And yeah I think a warmer full rainfly tent would definitely be better for you and your kids! Let me know which you end up going with! 😁

@CampingGuidance Жыл бұрын
Thank you so much Ryan! Glad that you've been liking the reviews! 😊 Hmm I recommend upsizing your tent by 2 persons, so for a family of 4, you could go with any of these 6P tents 😊 And I think you know my favorite tent out of all these by now 😂 Maybe you could also let me know what you're looking for in a tent (budget/rain protection/easy set up), and I could help you out further! 😊

@@CampingGuidancethanks for your reply. I think wawona 6 is great but I also liked your review about core instant cabin tent. So I am debating between these two..
@CampingGuidance Жыл бұрын
@@ryankim4550 Ah I see. Thanks for sharing, Ryan! 😊 Honestly, I would go with the Wawona over the Core. It's much higher quality, and better rainproofed. Are you expecting a lot of rain while camping though?

Hey Ben! Thank you so much and I'm really glad that you like the reviews! 😊 And thanks for the suggestion too! Btw if you don't mind me asking - what exactly is a hub tent? I don't think I've ever come across it before 😅
@bencrowe8991 Жыл бұрын
@@CampingGuidance hub style tents have poles on the walls of the tent along with the roof. I would classify them as instant tents as they typically take less then 2 minutes to set up!

@@bencrowe8991 Hi Ben! Thanks for the reply and explanation! Ah I see I think I call them instant tents instead 😂 And I've actually got a Best Instant Tents video coming up nearer the end of the year after I get the Gazelle T4 review done. Thanks for the suggestion on the Bushnell! I'll definitely think about getting that too. The problem for me now is the cost. On my local Amazon it costs $999 for a 6-person :(

Well done and informative video. I think I have a tent that trump's all the tents in this video. But then again the tent I have costs probably as much as all the tents in this video combined. I'm in California if you're ever in the area I would love to pitch the tent for you and get your opinion.

@@tommieboi707 HAHAH I wish! Sadly I'm stuck halfway across the world, so I have to deal with shipping + taxes whenever I buy gear to review :( Oh wow thanks for the heads up on the Vango Anantara! Thoughts on best budget 6-person tent? Thinking of the Big Agnes Dog House, or Big Agnes Bunk House 6 first gen.
@CampingGuidance Жыл бұрын
Hi again Brandon! Thank you for your comments! 😊 hmm what’s your budget? I think it’ll help if you gave me a specific number. Ah but I’m so sorry I don’t have any of the Big Agnes tents for now (as I maxed out my budget for this video), but I think the Bunk House the more popular option! 😊 the least expensive budget tent I have in a 6P is the Coleman Sundome. It’s solid for a $100 tent for sure.

Hi Tyler! Hmm there aren't many options for a 4P tent under $200, but I think you can try out the Teton Sports Mountain Ultra 4.
