I own two Teton Sports cots, with easy assembly arms, and two sleeping pads for each. Very high quality. The lever-arm cot is very nice. At my age 76, I cannot imagine having to fight a cot without this fantastic device. The sleeping pad is very well made and looks great as well. They are a great company who put thought and quality in their products. I just recently snagged a North Face Stormbreak 2 tent at a bargain price for bikepacking but have yet to use it. I will let you know how that goes. I have the North Face Wawona 8 and love it.

Left my Teton one person tent setup in the back yard, and a heavy overnight snow flattened it. When I removed the snow there was no real damage, it stood up just fine. That was three years ago, and I still use it...: )

I have had this very same tent for two years. We’ve been out 20+ times with it. Several times in 110° heat in the Mojave and several times in 25° ice overs at the upper Kern River in the winter. It’s been through multiple heavy rains and 30 mph gusts. It always performs great with no leaks whatsoever. If you take the time to set it up according to the conditions you’re in it’s truly an awesome tent for $200.

Luke recommended this tent to me awhile back. Finally used it last November thru January. I was working out of town so I decided to camp 4 days a week for 2 plus months. I was in an actual campground with electricity for comfort. For extra winter comfort, I had an electric heater and a cot inside. Cot was tight but fit. I put a movers blanket over the tent, under the fly to help hold the heat in. Only on the really cold 30 degree night is when I got condensation. Barely any at all. The real test was when 2 storms came in back to back. Fun times lol! I woke up to the tent folded on me from sideways winds. It survived. The second storm was even stronger. I tied it off better and the tent held up completely without any damage! The only issue was the sideways rain coming in under the fly even I tied it off as close to the ground as possible. The rain could have came through the top vent holes like Luke mentioned. Winds were every bit of 30 to 40 mph. It was a test for sure!! Regular rain and breezes, this 4 person tent held up great. Thanks for recommending this tent!!

I bought this on May 21, 2024 through Amazon for 214.99. We just used it on a 50F no-wind overnighter, and it was fabulous. Straight-forward setup, quality construction, worked great. No condensation. Tons of room for the two of us. Ours came with only 3 of 4 guy lines and no ground cloth - although there was an empty stuff sack for one. We bought a REDCAMP Waterproof Camping Tent Tarp - 71"x83" before we went and it was awesome. Truly waterproof and well sewn. Thanks for the great video!

It IS worth noting that, when I did my research, the orange/yellow color does apparently really irritate flies and mosquitoes. I tend to agree that it's cool to blend in, but growing up in the 70s, we still had people summiting peaks for the first time, and even Everest was something pretty heroic. The number of North Face tents of this orange/yellow color on those expeditions kind of makes up for that part of my brain that wants me to blend in. I can still feel like an adventurer with orange/yellow. That Marmot stuff, though? Miss with with those Cotopaxi color schemes. :)

I'd think there's a large market for a tent like this... family camps, fishing camps, car/overland, and as you said, the pieces could be shared among the group to lighten loads if hiking/backpacking in to the camp. Those important features we love on good backpacking tents transferred over to "camping". :D As you have pointed out through many revues, many/most budget-friendly 4 person tents are not actually designed to handle significant weather events, and/or quality control is such that one might be semi-OK, another identical tent from the same shelf in the store might be a complete disaster with missing or damaged components etc. HOORAY for quality products that many individuals, families and organizations could afford and have a comfortable, dependable shelter!

Thanks for this review! This is right up my alley in what I'm looking for. I can't believe how expensive some of the other 4-6 P tents are. Your prior video on REI is a good example. Just crazy! I agree that a coyote brown/tan color would be awesome for this tent.
@cobbler884 ай бұрын
To be fair, REI does not set the prices for the non-REI products. Whether it arrives at REI or your local mom and pop outfitter, that Osprey Atmos 65 comes with the company's price tag on it.
@jyo89144 ай бұрын
@@cobbler88 REI does have the ability to sell any item at a price below MSRP, just like many other retailers. I bought a Camp Chef fire pit (new model too) which was close to 50% off. And look at their annual sales. Steep discounts on a lot of items. I would feel better about buying things there if they had regular gear at lower prices. In this day, it's too easy to find things online for a discount. Doesn't make sense to throw money away.
@cobbler884 ай бұрын
@@jyo8914 But those are not made in a vacuum. REI can't just drop prices on their own. Otherwise, retailers could just dump product just above wholesale to keep their doors open while their suppliers go out of business. There need to be deals worked out with manufacturers in order to do that.

Besides the weird positioning of the vents, the only other negative I have for this tent so far is that the rainfly zipper tends to get caught on the rainflap if you don't use a finger to block it when you're opening and closing the rainfly. I think it probably has something to do with the material Teton uses, but it's a minor annoyance. Other than that, the "4-person" size is perfect for a long camping weekend for two people. Plenty of room for a couple of cots or sleeping pads and your stuff.

Same with the 2P. AND the door zippers can be tough around that sharper corner if you're trying to reach over to use them, rather than being positioned behind them more.

I know you show the colors as you talk about them and some people are probably super bothered by this but I super appreciate it.

One thing to note. When I was shopping for this one, I was afraid to get the yellow/orange one becauase I thought it would attract bugs. I mean, bees, right? Turns out that two insects that do NOT like this color happen to be flies and mosquitoes. It was an easy choice at that point.

The 2P worked great for me in adverse conditions in the Rockies a couple of weeks ago. After hours in the rain (and it rained every night), I woke to find that my tent area was actually almost entirely inside of a large puddle that had formed beneath me. I unstaked, dragged the footprint then the tent over about 12', staked back down. There wasn't a single drop of water inside the tent that didn't drip off of me, and most of the floor had to have been immersed for quite awhile. There are a few weak points, but nothing huge.

I've used Sierra Designs tents for as long as I can remember. My Clearwing 2 has served me and my Labrador retriever very well. Ample room for the furkid and me, and light enough that I can backpack it in. I was looking for a car camping tent. Coleman, Eureka...not happening. I looked at the cheaper Sierra Designs tents and they all used fiberglass poles, which I didn't want. I ended up buying the Ultra 3. Fast setup Well-designed and constructed ( I found no flaws in mine), 2 top vents + 2 vestibule vents A palace for 1 person and a dog (or 2). Ultra 4 would be overkill for my purposes. Big doors, smooth zippers. A heavy duty 6x8 tarp ($10 at Home Depot) is the perfect footprint (Ultra 3 is 6x7) Grey (silver?) rainfly casts a nice neutral light inside. I don't use the supplied stakes. I haven't had this tent in the rain yet, but based on reviews here, I don't expect issues. A well-made, 3-person tent w/ aluminum poles, excellent ventilation for well under $200 seems like a really solid value.

The tent looks great. I will be honest in saying I don’t have one, but I do have tent stakes like the ones provided, those fold up like a sheet of paper in my area. If camping in soft ground, this looks to be great! If you live in hard or rocky ground, invest in proper tent stakes.
@cobbler884 ай бұрын
Then again, if it' rocky enough, you can just use big rocks to stake down. I was in the Rockies a few weeks ago. The ground is soft for about 1". After that, it's a series of small, round rocks that you're just not going to be able to defeat. The bigger rocks really helped. Regardless, I do always swap out with Groundhogs. Those shepherd's hooks aren't bad for holding the tent in place in the wind until you can stake it down properly, though.

Regarding colors, it IS worth noting that, when I did my research, the orange/yellow color does apparently really irritate flies and mosquitoes. That made it a no-brainer for me. Plus, as much as one side of my brain wants to blend, the other side remembers growing up in the 70s when people were still summiting peaks for the first time, and even Everest was still a pretty big deal. The sight of all of those North Face orange/yellow tents on those expeditions makes the explorer side of my brain veto the blend-in side. That Marmot stuff, though? The fly and the tub are the main parts that differentiate a good tent from a bad one. The only way to tell is if it keeps you dry in a rain storm. Most don't. This one looks decent but needs a better larger outside to inner tent entry area. Tub waterproofing is unknown.

Enjoyed the video. I have a few Teton products and they seem very decent. Question: Did you ever do Part 4 of the Coleman Sundome 2? Part 1 was an overview, Part 2 was a before you buy, Part 3 was the rain test, and it did well in the rain test, after which you said you'd try it out for a few months and then make a video with your Final Thoughts. I don't think the Final Thoughts video ever came out. Cheap-but-serviceable tents like the Sundome 2 are important gateway tents, they're also important for people that want to do a little fair weather camping a few times a year and don't want to spend $1K on gear. I think they have their place. I know people look down on Coleman tents, but those "walmart tier" tents have probably gotten more people outdoors than any others, and I was very impressed that the Sundome 2 survived your rain test better than a number of other more expensive tents you've tested.
