Quality forage there lads 👍 All the food groups covered, a shed ton of carbs in chestnuts, vitamins etc in the mushrooms and additional foliage. Looked tasty TBH #ComponentsForTheWin

It was a nice lunch. Chestnuts and mushrooms is a classic combo. Even ants are OK to be fair. It was an interesting day wandering about with Jon the walking brain. 😉👍

Thank goodness I've never been that hungry that I needed to eat a lunch like that. Glad you enjoyed Dan. Bushyboy Oz.

Dan, what are you doing to me. You know how I love fungi! I was gutted that maggots had got there first. I noticed you were a bit slow in eating your roll😜 At the end with the chestnuts and all, it looked very tasty😋 I'll leave the ants to you😬 Great informative video 👍

I'm very cautious about picking mushrooms even though I took a class in college on the subject. Chanterelles are unmistakable but others are just not worth the price of admission if the identification is off by a little bit. Glad no harm done on your experience. Nice little stove it seems, very lightweight and usable. The lunch looked good but made me question the contents... Thanks Dan for the video and your buddy for the education, well done mate.

Jon knows his stuff. It's always a lesson when I hang out with him. I wasn't sure on the stove when I got it. But it's pretty usable. Time will tell on its longevity.

Me neither mate. I was only beave enough because of Jon's knowledge. I wasn't convinced by that stove when I got it. But it was pretty good to be fair. Hope you're well mate x

Saffron milk cap gets used in pickling in Eastern Europe because of it’s peppery flavour (you can definitely get a hint of the ‘pepper’ when you dab it on your lip) . Back roads & woods between the back of Headley and Frensham Ponds will be alive with edibles this time of year, I recall that folks would be collecting Seps for London restaurants when I was round that way for a few years😎👍

We had slim pickings here as there were a fair few 'professionals' out picking. Which i suspect was for selling on. We were hoping for parasols for lunch, Jon had spotted loads a few days before, but they were all gone except the older ones.

@@CampLifeBushcraft Picketts Hill & heath hill end of things used to get all the commercial pickers with baskets 🤨. Used to get lots of of Shaggy ink caps along the canal side land along the ash ranges / deep cut military land. Slippery Jack is edible but it’s always so slimy, I was never game enough to try it😝.

That's a woolly milkcap which is poisonous. Both the saffron milkcap and the false saffron milkcap have bright orange milk.

G'day Dan, Jon, really interesting guys, and rolls/sangers, an excellent way to have your foragings ...... in the absense of a steak anyway ; ) And, you still managed to sneak in a purple fella Dan, ......... just watch out for the "blue meanies" You dont have to be asleep to dream with those .......... so I'm told ; ) Yeah death cap and yellow stained are the two big nasties here in oz and of course there's others. Incidentally, shaggy parasol are considered not good at all either. As far as bush tucker in general, I do have a couple of excellent publications on the subject, but even with those, to be honest, I know enough ...... to be dangerous ; ) In fairness, there are quite a few ol' faithfuls here, but barring those, it's very risky business in my view. I always favor fresh, but even the blandest of MREs look good, compared to the unknown ; ) At the end of the day, there's so little, "proper" research on many/most of all species, (and mushies no exception). Gov around the globe would do well to rectify that, ...... rather than concentrate on blowing the shite out of each other. Cheers Duke.

Hey bud, yeah, I echo your sentiment at the end there. I wouldn't have the guts to eat this kind of thing without Jonno around to ID them! You say in the absence of steak. I took Lolly out in the forest the other day for her first camp fire steak. Fair to say she's a fan 😉 Look out for a cuteness overload video soon 😍

Heard through the vine- pissed off housewife’s of consistently drunk husbands used to mildly poison them with shaggy ink caps - as it reacts with alcohol….resulting in 4 days of sickness! That’s a way to do it 😆

The survival manuals that I have advise against messing with Fungi because of the high risk of death compared to the low nutritional value.
