We do actually have gorgeous waterways here in the states, especially the southeast, where I live. I'm in Georgia, and the Chattahoochee (a major river) is just about two miles from where I'm sitting in my house. There are a bunch of amazing places to put in and see sights. We have ruins and wildlife preserves and historical areas that can be accessed from the rivers just like you! The Altahama is a beautiful one that has connecting rivers to explore. A lot of the waterways run straight through downtown Atlanta, so you could pull off, take a hike, and feel like you're miles outside the city when you've only pulled off the main roads. We're not too far from the Okefenokee, either, so there are more rivers, waterfalls, trails, and wetlands than one could find time to explore even If you went out every weekend for a year, lol. There's a reason Atlanta's called "the city in the trees". I love it, and I've been watching your vids as I wait for Spring and weather conducive to christening my new k1!

Nice paddle there Dan. Both this vid and Wild Camper's last vid have given me a fair bit of nostalgia lol. I used to know that canal so well, it had water voles also lots of coots and moorhen, and at the Greywell end of the tunnel (collapsed) lived many bats. We kids used to play in the ford at North Warnborough and I was hoping you were going to visit King John's Castle. Thanks for jogging a few memories Dan atb Just.

Looks like a cool way to spend a few hours in beautiful area. I've been tempted over the last year or so to get an inflatable kayak, but don't want to spend loads as it would only get a few outings a year, would you recommend the mid priced ones
@CampLifeBushcraft5 жыл бұрын
it really is relaxing.. a great thing to do after work on a Friday! the really cheap ones look a bit fragile to me, the one I've got was just under £100. but the prices go up and down, I've seen it for £130 and I've seen it for £70.. I guess its a seasonal thing. I've linked mine in the description, have a look.. my buddy has a saverlor or sevalor (not sure of the name) and thats of a similar price and is pretty robust. as long as you look after it, there is no reason why it shouldn't last a good few years. I want to make good use of mine this year.. got a few kayak camp ideas floating about.
@gordonprince40905 жыл бұрын
@@CampLifeBushcraft Yes i agree the cheaper ones look flimsy, i would like the chance to use one more but like you my dog tags along where ever i go and i don't think a kayak would be a good place to have seven stone of Rottie

Hi I Just found you channel, I love it! At the moment I am pondering the K1 kayak, but I am 6"2, and not too sure if i will be too big for it? Problem is I dont have a car at the moment, and although I can get buses to the many lakes that are near where I live, I dont fancy humping the 18 kilo K2 bag around everywhere! Do you think I will be too big for the K1? Secondly I was interested in what you are wearing, you look warm, but not particularly comfortable! I live in Poland and it gets bloody cold here in the winter, could you let me know what kind of layers and clothes you ware please when out in such conditions?
@CampLifeBushcraft5 жыл бұрын
Hey buddy, thanks for watching the video, I’m glad you enjoyed it. A friend of mine has the K1 and it’s tiny.. he’s a big guy and struggles to fit in it.. and that’s without any gear. I would definitely get the bigger K2. As it gives you leg room and gear storage. In winter I wear merino wool base layers, fleece lined water resistant trousers, a wool shirt and I carry a packable down jacket for the evenings. These things keep me warm enough when camping. Hope this helps ATB Dan

@@CampLifeBushcraft Thanks for answering. I wasn't planning on taking any gear with me on kayak trips, apart from maybe a flask and a sandwich, and like i said i don't have a car so humping that k2 bag around might not be good for my not so good back!! So I may invest in a K1 and if its that bad, my girlfriend can have it, and when i get a car next year, i can have a think about what kayak. PS thanks for the advice on clothes, very helpful!!

its not super light by any means, but it does fit in the boot of the car which is its best feature for me. I forget what it weighs now.. possibly around the 20kg mark.. I did a video on how to set it up last year and the weight and stuff is in that.

Hey! Loved the video. Just wanted to ask, how do you like the kayak when on "solo" trip? It's meant for two, so is it hard do control because it's so long?
@CampLifeBushcraft5 жыл бұрын
its actually easier with only 1 person in it.. your bag can go at the front to help with balance. when there is 2 of you it feels less stable in the water TBH.. I went out with my wife a while back and with 2 adults it felt a bit wobbly : )

I also rode in the back and put my gear in front. It handles very well with one person. Plus I had a milk crate with my fishing gear and poles I carry... Love the river... Like here in New England's , New Hampshire! 😃 I'm in the Lakes Region in Laconia here in U.S.A. We have big lakes and lots of rivers like yours... Great get away for coffee... I like tea! Hello :) May I ask a rather silly question : ) I am a beginner (never done any kayaking) and recently bought a waterway license and was wondering whether is legal / normal to put the kayak on/off the canal just like you did here 11:13 ? or is there a special place where everyone gets on the water , lets say a launching site/place ? There is a small car park near the canal in Aldershot and I usually cycle around there but never saw anyone putting the kayaks on water . Can I just park my car and put the kayak on water if is safe to do so ? Thank you !
@CampLifeBushcraft5 жыл бұрын
If you have the water licence I believe you can put in and out where you Like, providing it’s not someone’s garden/land.. I stopped at a nature reserve so I knew it was public land. That being said nobody is going to be checking up on you really.. just have fun, and if someone asks you to leave their land just apologise and leave.. no harm done 👍
