I know this is late...but its sounds like you probably don't have kids. I agree that it's the parents job to teach morality, but you are a fool if you think music, whether rap, heavy metal, etc can't affect behavior. There is only so much parent's can do. It's impossible to completely block the world of media from children. If they don't hear it at home, they will hear it at school, at a friends home, the list goes on. Also, don't play dumb, most athletes, entertainers are role models whether or not they acknowledge it.

Louis Zarrillo I agree with you in principle, but in practise I have to admit my parents had no idea I was listening to NWA and stuff, and that was BEFORE the internet. I’m not a parent still, but I can’t imagine how difficult it must be to control what your kids see and hear these days. I would say the answer is probably just talking to your kids and making sure they know wrong from right before a record has a chance to teach them.

People that use music as a scapegoat for the violence and immorality that plagues the youth are copping out of their responsibility. The family environment and the community environment should be the two biggest influences on a child's life. If a parent knows what kind of music or music videos an artist puts out it's their responsibility to not have their child around something like that. Same way how parents don't want people to curse around their kids because they know the child will repeat it because children emulate adults. Nowadays kids live lives that are affected by a multitude or things and music is not the sole reason for the behaviour of the youth today.
