I wish I had found this video a few months ago as I have a 99 Mercedes. After replacing the fuel pump, and the spark plugs (didn't realise that I needed two per placement). It ended up running really good. No hard start, no idle issues. A week later it wouldn't start. Ended up finding out that it is the crankshaft sensor and it'll now need replacing. Good to know such things for future references and it'll save me time and money.

These are 2 very important sensors that can leave these cars or any car stranded, camshaft position sensor and crankshaft position sensors both have some life expectancy due to the heat and the severe engine compartment environment. Here are the tips and tricks to diagnose and replace these two, please leave your experience , questions and feedback in the comments and I try my best to reply ASAP. Cheers...

I have a 2009 c300 it just threw the same code exhaust cam position sensor I changed the sensors magnet & cam sensor but the code won’t go away or move. It starts up fine but it has a real bad loss of power when driving. Could it be the acutal exhaust cam? Could I have a faulty sensor? Should I try n change the crankshaft position sensor because maybe it’s not sending the right message ? Or could the acutal exhaust cam phaser be not phasing correctly. ? I also seen there’s an exhaust control valve should I try changing that

Great advice and helpful instruction. I think the crank sensor is the main one to replace. I had two fail without warning , leaving the cars in a crank no start situation. Even at low mileage , 50,000 km , but after 13 years they should be replaced , preferably with a Bosch . As you say they are affected by heat which rises from the exhaust when the car is stationary which eventually causes failure. After fitting a new one the engine should be gradually increased in speed to around 2500rpm , to enable the adaptation of the new sensor.

hello.the error codes P0171+P0174 are usually a sign of a faulty air mass sensor! A defective camshaft sensor or crankshaft sensor has other error codes (DEC). I would recommend installing a new BOSCH air mass sensor! The new sensor does not need to be trained (STAR DIAGNOSIS). The ME2.0/2.8 engine control unit recognizes the new air mass sensor! The adaptation values of bank 1 and 2 are reset to normal after approx. 200-500 km. The air mass sensor ages more and more after approx. 100,000 km and the engine control unit still tries to adhere to the programmed values. if this is no longer possible, usually P0171/ P0174 is set and the engine control lamp MIL lights up. best regards from Germany.

Hi mate, thank you for your guidance, you are very right, this should be a vacuum leak or a faulty MAF, I will buy one and make another video on this, cheers. 👍

BIG respect 🙏for you showing crankshaft position sensor in such a detail video. I did this job today myself b/c my M112 CLK is throwing P0335 & can NOT start the car (after letting engine cool for 20 minutes, it starts again so I know I MUST take care of this. There is NO prior failure warning. The CPS is in such a strange angle that I can't even take nice photos to share ! Both old & new reads 1.1K ohm b/c old one may be at early stage of failing. My own experience: I removed #6 cylinder coil completely to gain better access but seems like your #6 coil stays there and you can still replace CPS successfully so you are amazing 👍. It took me 2 hours to even locate CPS b/c it's hidden by various wire looms.

Thanks mate, glad it helped. It is probably worthwhile to replace the CPS after 100k km... enjoy your Benz , subscribe please. Cheers.

I recently replaced the crankshaft position sensor on my 2006 SLK55 AMG and it is one of the trickiest jobs I've ever done on any car. One of the issues was that pressing the connector clip did not lift the locking tab enough to release the plug. I managed to loop a piece of string around the connector so that I could pull it with one hand while using a small screwdriver to lift the locking tap with the other hand. Removing and replacing the screw was also tricky and required an extension bar with a universal joint close to the E6 socket end. The latter has to be done entirely by feel because it's impossible to see the screw which is beneath the sensor.
@BenzAddiction8 ай бұрын
Yes, a beefy V8 in a compact SLK engine bay would be like that, I guess, an inspection camera might help, though... my CLK500 bay is also tight around the engine...
@manchegocheese9978 ай бұрын
@@BenzAddiction It's never going to be easy but at least it's possible (just) and I don't expect to have to do it again. It wasn't faulty, this was just preventative maintenance. Thanks for all your videos, they really help. I recently bought the car and I'm working through bringing the servicing up to date and replacing potential age-related failure points. Fortunately, most of these jobs, although sometimes fiddly and time-consuming, are relatively straightforward.

I own a CLK with M272 engine, just had the CSP sensor replaced. Now first thing first, you cannot see the actual sensor. You can only feel it. You HAVE to remove the MAF to get ANY room to access the adapter to CSP sensor and you have to feel the sensor and the bolt from the other side. The bolt is T30 on M272 engine. E8 for older engines.

Do You think changing this 2 sensors will help? I already change camshaft sensor, but after 4000rpm problem is back, check engine and less power.

I would dig more as these can be due to cat or O2 sensors. Don't throw parts. Try to find out the real reason.

Thank You for respond, do You think it may be related to the correct timing? maybe the timing chain is stretched? although I don't hear any sounds indicating this

I just replaced my crankshaft position sensor yesterday. It was for a 2001 CLK55 AMG. I ended up using a 1/4" ratchet, two inch extension with the socket to loosen and remove the bolt. After all is said and done. It wasn't that bad. At first I was experimenting with different extensions and u-joints but I finally ended up using my setup. I was getting a rough idle when warming up and if I had to stop for a light the rough idle would begin within a minute. It seemed like the engine wanted to die. Now, everything runs good. I had to clear out the code so now the engine is going through the relearning process.

Why does your car make a high pitched whine when you rev it? Does it have a super charger?
@BenzAddiction8 ай бұрын
No super charger, might be the air pump that comes on for 30 sec after start up.
@manchegocheese9978 ай бұрын
These engines do tend to have a bit of a whine to the sound (mine does), there are some discussions about it online but it doesn't appear to be related to any serious problems.
