Thank you for your video! My WJ with 273k threw cylinder 3 misfires today and I watched your video. Only when I picked up the new one at Adv Auto and got it home did I see mine was actually broken. A piece of the magnet was still in the housing. I actually thought the new one was wrong until I took a better look in there. Mine was sputtering and threw P0303 and P0203 codes.

You think this is why my Jeep would be hitting like a “rev limiter” at 3k rpm once it’s warmed up and going up hills it has to hold a lower gear in order to pull the hills or I will lose speed it virbrates a lot but it only does it once it’s warmed up … some shop said something about a misfire on cylinder 1 they replaced the injection on cylinder 1 and it was still misfiring then they replaced the whole fuel rail and still same thing so idk?

Hey thanks for watching. So the biggest indicator with these is if it's inconsistent and when its fully warmed up. Those aren't symptoms I have experienced but if it happens sometimes but not always there's a good chance it's a sensor. From there it's either the camshaft or the crankshaft position sensor. I have a video on the crankshaft as well. Because they both report back to the ecu you will get weird responses like stalling, Inconsistent rpm, vibrations, limp home mode, misfires, etc. Without any codes to go off of it's hard to say if this is going to solve your problem but between this and the crankshaft sensor you'll cover what I have seen is most people's "gremlin." Camshaft sensor is pretty easy, I'd start there and then go to crankshaft if need be

2000 jeep cherokee just turns off at random times at all speeds. No sputter just off. Could it be anything else besides crankshaft sensor .

@aaronwagner4074 I had the same issue from the sounds of it. Any speed but often right around hitting operating temp. Often electronics stayed on just the engine would turn off. When my camshaft position sensor was bad the rpm would bobble but when engine would just shut off randomly it was 100% solved by replacing the crankshaft position sensor. Not sure if you were more looking for reassurance that's the only issue but realistically if it runs completely fine one second and there's no indication leading up and it just cuts off at any speed, then that's very likely the crankshaft position sensor. Not sure if you watched my video on it but I go over some tips, the most important being that you have to buy the mopar part. If you replaced it already and are still having issues that's likely why. I replaced mine with a midrange crankshaft position sensor, worked fine for maybe 3 weeks then back to shutting off and throwing codes. I put in the mopar brand part and my jeep has been running strong without issues(related to that) for nearly 4 years now as a daily driver. Hope this helps, thanks for watching.

@Kurt-p5x4g Yeah these two go hand in hand. If you haven't I always recommend replacing both. My crankshaft sensor gave me issues where it would shut off randomly. My camshaft sensor would bobble the rpm. But both threw various codes because they are telling the engine it's out of sync one way or the other. Hopfully this helps, thanks for watching.

Will a failing or bad cam positioning sensor cause no acceluration and rough idle with misfire?

It can in a way yes but it's typically more related to inconsistent rpm though that would give you a rough idle. I would start with this repair as it's an easy first check but your issue sounds like it could also be the crankshaft position sensor which is a tougher job. I also have a video on that where I describe it if you want to check it out on my channel, it does all that and can sometimes stall.

Question my mother 2004 jeep grand Cherokee 4.0 would just shut off at stop sight or red light do you think it could be this cam shaft sensor ?

Camshaft sensor gives more of a rough or inconsistent idle. If it's been shutting off usually after getting to operating temp maybe 5-10 min from home that might actually be the crankshaft position sensor. I have a video on that as well. It's possible both need to be replaced but that sounds like the crankshaft. You'll sometimes get codes, sometimes different ones and some times none but the consistant thing was that it would just randomly shut off.

My jeep starts but then dies unless i give it throttle. The code is saying the sensor is faulty do you think it may be something else?

So it's doing that right off start? A lot of these sensor related issues happen mostly when the car is at operating temp so not right away. That almost sounds like a fuel delivery problem and its giving this code because its down the line affected. When this sensor is bad it does make the rpm bobble a bit but I never had the issue of it cutting power. That all being said these sensors give a lot of weird symptoms and it is a relatively easy fix so it might be worth crossing off your list at least and replacing it. Hopfully this helps, let me know if it resolves it or you find it's a different issue

I replaced my sensor cause my car kept dying, whenever I went to replace it I started up my jeep and it wouldn’t start, I replaced my sensor anyways and it wouldn’t start, what could the problem be?

So the sensor does cause rpm issues. The crankshaft position sensor I also have a video on causes the jeep to stall but all together not starting but it cranks I would check the quality of your negative cable. If there isn't enough power coming from your battery it won't start. I personally did not have issues with the jeep starting even when both sensors were bad so I'd check battery and it's connections. Freyed negative cable is enough for the jeep to not start or randomly shut off

@cherryflip1369 The engine is or the camshaft sensor itself is? Is it a constant clicking that follows a pattern or is it random? Is it at all tempatures or only after warming up? If it is the engine around where do you hear it. Left, right or front?

@cherryflip1369 So the sensor is really two parts. The cap which you see me replace in the video and the shaft it's screwed into. There is a chance you will need to replace both the shaft and the cap which they do sell together. If there's gearing teeth that are worn it could be the reason for your clicking. Unfortunetly my video doesn't show replacing the shaft itself, the best way to do it is mark how the old one sits in the block and line up the new one exactly the same and then put on the cap. Hope this helps

@cherryflip1369 if you go on rockauto they call it a camshaft synchronizer for the cap and shaft. Would be worth replacing the whole thing they sell for about $50. If it's a noticeable clicking then that's likely the issue there. The only other reason I could see is if its clicking until operating temp it could be the oil level being too low and it taking time to lubricate the gears as needed. Or too thin of oil but if that's for sure not the issue then it has to be the gearing, I'd check for damage when replacing so you know.

It can be, mostly it would be subtle in my experience my jeep barely ran different just not as healthy. I have a video on the crankshaft position sensor too and that made my jeep un driveable. Rpm would bounce all over the place, it would shut off when it got to operating temp and that also gave me a cam code error in addition to the crank. If you are getting the cam code only and noise you might have a mechanical issue but unless you can take it apart or to a shop it's worth the $50 and a few minutes to install to check if it will fix it.

@@picklesgarage My jeep is suffering bad ideal I change ignitor plugs , clean fuel injectors and check them for proper electric wairing , coil pack ... Every thing was fine But still there is an issue I don't know where & what But I hear a sound like an electric leak from the cam senser 😕. . I just wana to confirm the Symptoms before change 😦

@bazokazoro4563 Yeah if you have checked everything I think it's a good bet to change the sensor it can definitly cause misfires which would lead to a bad idle. Hopfully it works out
